1769.0. "Aftermarket intercoolers?" by UTROP1::BOSMAN_P () Mon May 18 1992 16:32

    I have an Audi 100 Avant turbo diesel. The new models have an
    intercooler fitted whereas mine hasn't.
    It does improve fuel economy even more as well as the performance. Also
    it makes the engine run cooler.
    Logical step, at least in my mind, is to fit an intercooler myself.

    Now for the problem.
    The actual fitting of the thing seems rather straight forward and I
    like wrenching. What I do not know is if any changes to the pump
    are neccessary.
    Any snags?

    The specialist I called sells an intercooler for 350 ponds.
    A set will come around to over 500 pounds. Mounting will need extensive
    pump and timing adjustment.
    The complete fitting will cost me approx. 750 pounds including labour.

    I find this a bit stiff for 10% more torque so I'll have to think about
    this quite hard.
