Well, the NEW Astra is reckoned to be one of the safest cars in its
class (near or on a par with the Golf), which I know is a subject dear
to you. Personally, I hated the old Astra, but I reckon the new one is
as good as the Rover (This is purely on looks, finish, etc as I've not
driven an Astra) and better than the ZX (again, I've not driven one,
but a BX I once drove was suprisingly good).
One thing to consider, of course, is resale value, and I believe the
Rover is pretty good in this area, as well as being a nice little car.
