1642.0. "Mercedes model wanted..." by CSC32::R_SWANSON () Thu Jan 02 1992 19:58

    Does anybody know if there is a plastic model available for the
    Mercedes Benz 280SL? It is not the old 280SL (1960's) but the
    1980's version of it. It is virtually identical to the 450/380SL.
    This particular car however was never sold in the US (except as a
    gray market car). I am looking for a plastic model of this car and
    would prefer a large scale (1/8 or 1/12). If anyone knows where
    this particular model is available, could you please let me know.
    I have tried the model shops in the US and nobody seems to have
    any and they can't even order me one.
    Thanks,
    Ricky

1642.1Matchbox carsKERNEL::SHELLEYRLooks like he hit the tree JimWed Feb 05 1992 16:0813
    As the result of a discussion in the BASINGSTOKE notes conference, I've
    discovered I have a valuable collection of toy cars.

    I'm particularly interested in getting an idea of the worth of mint
    condition/boxed Matchbox cars from 1965ish to 1972 as I have about
    40 of the things.

    If anyone knows about this (specifically Matchbox) I can mail you the
    full list including model numbers.

    Cheers

    I know very little about Matchbox cars but I do know that if buy one of
    the collector magazines your will get an idea of what they are worth.

    A word of warning, big advert collectors are the sort of people that
    don't give the real value, They give you what sounds nice but often
    that is a lot less than you could really get. Alternativly there is a
    vaulation book you can buy for matchbox cars. Cost lots but if you know
    someon it's worth taking a peek.

    You can mail me a copy of the list and I'll ask my friendly model
    dealer to value it.

    Might take a week or two.
