1569.0. "Preffered Car List" by NIBLIK::THOMSONS () Wed Oct 16 1991 12:08

What are peoples thoughts on the new Preffered Car List , costs etc
,some cars seemed to have incresed quite significantly , and other cars
that used to always be on the list of quotes are missing altogether.

And another thought , if someone asks for a quote will it then appear
on the list ? , or does it depend on the number of quotes requested
    for the same car ?
It sounds in many respects that there will be duplication of work with
    regards to quotes.
1569.2Calling Mr ModKERNEL::SHELLEYROn the bank of brinkruptcyWed Oct 16 1991 13:3413
This has/is being discussed in #1538 (Quotes under September 1991
scheme). However, that note was originally for posting individual
quotes (for info only) as it is understood they will not appear
anywhere else. Individual quotes are just that.

Maybe it would be useful to use another note for general discussion of
the current scheme, the list, prices etc. and leave #1538 alone because
as time progresses it will be intesting to look through a note that has
a variety of individual quotes on them.

Input from a mod would be useful. Richard ?

Would anyone out there in cars_uk world actually take a car of this
lease without submitting a few quotes?

If I were in line for a new leasemobile then I would definetly test out
the current prices for non-list models by sending in some quotes, ie
    nothing different than before!

    re. 3

Many people in the 'cars_uk world' would probably submit a few quotes
as you suggest to 'test out' the prices. However, I don't believe the
majority of lease holders follows cars_uk or have much of an interest
    in cars.

Lets face it. Its highly unlikely that adhoc quotes will be cheaper
than equivelant cars on the list.

I think a lot of people will order off the list because its just
    convenient.

1569.6Are the most popular models really there?DOOZER::JENKINSPschorrly 'ken shabbyWed Oct 16 1991 15:2214

In the memo from Alastair Wright, under the section "Preferred Car
List" it says "The list includes the most popular models on the
fleet selected by employees over the last twelve months"

The list would seem to contain some serious ommissions in the
    popularity stakes.

I think it would be useful to publish the original report that
provided the information on the most popular models. Fleet, or
somebody else must have this information for the statement above
    to have been made.

    Richard.

And I'm exempting Astras and Golfs from my last note.
1569.8KERNEL::SHELLEYROn the bank of brinkruptcyWed Oct 16 1991 15:2610
    re .6

The statement is clearly omitting a few truths.

I think it should be something like -

"The list contains the most popular models on the fleet from different
price ranges and certain undesirable cars have been ommitted"

How can one get a nicely printed list from VTX ??

	I have save/all car.txt.

	Edited out all control characters.

Printed landscape - still wraps round.

re-edit so that it will print landscape.

Any way to bypass all this cr** ?

( It would be nice to peruse at leisure rather than peer at a
few lines of 132 text in every screen. )

Yep that was my first thought, most cars seem to be very expensive
unless you have the extra/market supplement.

if you save the contents of your scratch pad to a file, it seems to
understand the fact that the lines are 132 column. Well it did for me
but I still had to take out all the control characters first.

1569.13Use ALL-IN-1??HAMPS::JORDANChris Jordan, Digital Services - Office Consultant, LondonThu Oct 17 1991 12:1159
Using ALL-IN-1 I easily did a GOLD P to put the current screen into
the scratch pad... then repeated that for the screens I wanted (and
      ignored the others....).

Then I created a new document, GOLD GET the scratch pad, and could
edit as I wanted to (especially having done a GOLD M and EA to set
the screen wide for the document):

Here is my extract (132 wide):

I have made some statements about cars and alarms in Cars_uk 1134 and
    in uk_digital.

As to the expansion of car groups by the insurance industry from 9 to
20, we shall review this as it develops. We have used the industry as
an initial benchmark for the way we have apportioned premiums on the
    preferred car list.

For the future we shall look at Digital's experience against this
benchmark and develop our car groups and insurance costs from that
    experience.

Mmmmm. tried that. GOLD P does nothing. A problem with our ALL-IN-ONE
	maybe.

I do - GOLD P when in the screen(s), GOLD I for interrupt menu, and
then SP and R to read the scratch pad.

	Scratch pad empty.

	I'll check what's wrong.

	Thanks for input. Tom.

So what did you go and put it in here for then.

re .17

Why don't you read the memo from Alastair Wright! If you don't like the
look of the car list, then submit a quote and put the price in here under
the relevant topic. Alternatively, put pressure on car fleet to rewrite a
more realistic preferred car list of popular and cheaper cars!

    Tom,
I managed to do it but it was rather long winded.

Extracted to the scratch pad then sent it to myself then sent it to
my VMS account and edited out all the control characters etc then
added the escape sequences for landscape, horizontal pitch and
70% font size and as i'm remote and have to print through my attached\
LN03 sent it back to my all-in-one account then printed it off.

If anybody wants a copy let me know and i'll mail it to them.

    Regards Martin

1569.22..High Prices or what..??LARVAE::THACKERAYWed Oct 23 1991 15:3933
Okay Folks, a few questions for the Car fleet gurus out there, with
regard to the new scheme...and other ramblings:

    1. Why have the majority of our leased cars increased in price to such
a phenomenal amount. My humble Cavalier has increased by nearly 40%
over the price I was quoted in March [ I'm a lucky one - it is
'relatively cheap' for the next 30 months :-) ]

    2. Referring to number 1., why have the prices shot up, bearing in mind
that the car manufacturers are slashing prices left, right and centre.
I'm sorry, but the increase in insurance costs is not an argument which
satisifes me - especially as some car prices have reduced by several
    thousand pounds.

    3. Why are we continually being stung by PHH and Hertz. A colleague of
mine who has his own company, has negotiated a deal for his single
company car - a Granada Ghia. The conditions are identical to ours,
yet he pays only 2/3rds of our price.
This he did with Wincanton Transport Leasing.
I have mentioned this to Car Fleet a couple of times, but the response
has always been "...we ask leasing companies to bid for our business on
a regular period, the winners then have exclusivity to our business for
that period.." (3 years I think).
Sounds like a pretty good captive market to me.
I wonder why, in all my time at Digital, it has always been Hertz and PHH ?

With apologies to those who aren't blessed with a company car......

Ref.22

Beware of HERTZ and their "relationship" with Digital.

I have been saddled with a car that has had a total 15 garage visits in 12
    months.

The car is basically a heep, a source of great amusment to my colleagues.

A generator of vast revenue for spares companies and hire car firms.

Now the Sting !!

Despite complaining, pleading, begging with HERTZ and FLEET. I am stuck
    with the car.

I cannot swap it as fleet say that wouln't be fair on the person who takes
    over the lease.

HERTZ refuse to take it back, because "Digital" wont tell them to, unless my
CC picks up the cancellation charges.

My opinion FWIW. HERTZ and PHH take the preverbial P out of Digital.
While we try and try to reduce expenditure and make profit. We as a
company buy into a lease scheme that is a minefield.

Still I will have to continue shelling out for the next two years.

Regards

Bruce

PS: Micheldever Tyres have just told me that my spare wheel well is
doubling as a swimming pool and has flooded the rear of the car under
the rear seats. They also mentined that my rear seatbelts stick (noticed
as they attempted to lower the rear seats to get at the wheel). Still
at least the belts have only been replaced once.

Nice to know that HERTZ and Digital care about the safety of my rear seat
    passengers.

    Bruce,

Last thing I heard was that Toyota were going to take off the cat and
replace it with a 'one off' exhaust. Are there still problems ?

The Cat was removed several months ago. There are still a multitude
of problems. Unfortunately I think that the HERTZ desirted result
is close to being achieved. i.e. If you blame the driver, and Digital
all the time they will eventually run out of steam and put up with
	the problems.

Still back to the preferred car list !!

    Richard,

The preferred list is updated from time to time, but it is completely
    reviewed each July.
