1466.0. "Securing wheel trims..?" by BAHTAT::CARR (Dave Carr 845-2317) Wed Jun 12 1991 14:51

We've now had 3 sets of Fiesta LX wheel trims nicked. I have
tried marking them with the registration number, and securing them
with plastic cable ties, to no avail.

Has anyone else found any better way of keeping people's thieving
hands off their wheel trims?

Yeah, don't have wheel trims that anyone else wants...

    Alloys don't help...

    I've got them but there are these little tiny discs in the middle, to
    cover up the untidy mechanical bits that hold the wheel on, and they
    keep coming loose.
    they don't come sufficiently loose to fall off, just enough to
    rattle......all the time......{sigh}

    Ian,

    Have you tried a couple of drops of Loctite, or a few dabs of something
    non-setting like Blue Hylomar? That might stop them rattling.

    Laurie.

re: painting the steel wheeels silver (suggested by Huw)

I've also thought of trying to remove the black paint (wire wool?)
to get back to the steel finish. Would it need a protective coating to
prevent rust? Are the ordinary Fiesta steel wheels coated with anything?

1466.12Check your nuts....WARNUT::RICEAt last the GPX750 is back on the road...Mon Jun 17 1991 20:0210
    The naff white trims recently fell off me mums Fester Popular, it seems
    that Ford left the black plastic "nut-covers" on under the trims
    causing the trims to not seat properly (The "nut-covers" are used to
    tidy up the wheel when there's no trims on at all), might be worth
    checking.

    BTW. If anyones got a set of trims for a new Fiesta which they are
    desperate to get rid of I might be interested.

    Steve.

    re.11 Try just spraying them silver and then clear varnish stuff!.

    	You could also not bother cleaning the wheels for a while, then the
    thieving g!t would either not bother or get dirty in the process of
    stealing the trims.

    Alternatively, change the car for a Citroen BX.

    They'd have to remove the wheel nuts!
