    Radio Interference....
On the Vauxhall calibra I use the GM intigral alarm system radiates
what seems to be computer generated interference across FM band II and
more importantly all over the 2 meter Ham band ......
It seems that you cannot dis-connect the alarm as it is intigral part of
    the ignition system....
Help... can anybody advise me on how to stop this interference.

    Regards...Graham..G8RDX.

1460.1An Earthy problem?TRUCKS::SMARTWhen you're in a hole, stop digging!Mon Jun 03 1991 16:2221
Is the broadcast receiver the standard Vauxhall supplied unit? If so
then claim under the warrenty and get GM to sort it. If the supplied
combination doesn't work then moan until it does.

As for your ham rig, I had a similar problem many years ago with a
series 2 Ford Granada with the electronic ignition unit. My old Pye
Reported was fine but the FDK (microprocessor PLL) had severe problems.

I tracked it down using a 'scope, calculated the frequency of the
interference and then made a simple filter and put it in line with the
    rig.

That fine if it's through the power line, if it's radiated then it's
more complicated. Check all the obvious things like earthing to rig
and aerial and that you have no 'floating' panels that are radiating
because they are not properly earthed. Potential offender is the
    bonnet.
