1447.0. "The Dimilia" by PHLACT::BROWNE () Fri May 17 1991 00:35

My daughter is getting married in a couple of weeks and a friend of her
fiance rented them a limousine. This fellow does not know cars very well, but
anyway he told them that they were getting a Dimilia. My daughter asked
me if I had ever heard of this brand of British car that comes as a
limousine and I said no...never heard of it. I had thoughts of a little
known Italian marque that was one of a kind. Upon seeing the brochure,
however,it seems that the car is a good old Daimler DS420 imported here
to the States. I have the Vanden Plas book and it looks like there were
71 made (just went out of production this year?) with left hand drive, but
but they can't remember whether it has RHD or LHD. Anyway,I'll get my
first ride in a Daimler limo! And instead of black/silver it's been
    resprayed white...

Does anyone understand the connection between Jaguar's Daimler and
Daimler-Benz? I know it goes back to the turn of the century.

Can you clarify, is this a Daimler Dimilia or a Daimler that your
    friend THOUGHT was a Dimilia?.

The story is that someone who knows nothing about automobiles in
general that runs a limousine rental service is calling this car a
Dimilia. I knew what it was as soon as I saw their brochure. Good
thing they don't rent out the Denbeigh-Smedley Royal Crown Regency.
They would really mess up that one...

Now that you've mentioned the Denbeigh-Smedley, and what a fine
car that was, I wonder if any noters remember that great old
classic the Rolls-Canardly, and could explain it's heritage.

I remember the Rolls Canardly with great affection. My first 3 cars were all
Rolls Canardlys! I can't shed much light on their history. There must have been
variations of the Rolls Canardly about since the dawn of the motor car but
during the fifties and sixties every other family had one. By the affluent
eighties they had almost dissappeared until the arrival in Western Europe of
a little known but well qualified East German variation.
