Not being familiar with Spridget suspension, this is a shot in the dark; all I
know is that it works for Triumphs...

Why not work out how thick a spacer you need to fit between the chassis and
suspension bits, then get a piece of sheet steel that thickness, cut a piece
the right size and drill to suit, then fit it between the chassis and suspension
and bolt up.

Or if your suspension pivots around a bolt through a hole in the chassis, why
not cut out that bit of chassis (eg make a 1 inch square hole around the
existing bolt hole), weld a plate over this hole and re-drill a new suspension
mounting hole in the right place.

Perhaps you could explain the Spridget front suspension set up? Is it like
an MGB?

You could always cut and re-weld the stub axle at a slight angle..!

    RE: last

I know it's been ages but I haven't had a chance to look at the set-up.
I should manage over the next few weeks...

Does anyone over there in blighty have the phone number of a supplier,
that does credit card mail order, from whom I can buy windscreen wiper
blades for a Frogeye/Mk1 Sprite? Please post the number here.

    Cheers, Laurie.

1263.4Got 'em!PLAYER::BROWNLElbow @FROThu Jul 11 1991 16:077
    Thanks Steve,

I rang them, and they had two left in stock. Many thanks.

For the record, they don't specialise in MG anymore.

    Cheers, Laurie.

Is there anyone who reads this conference who has changed the front
springs on an early Sprite/Midget? If so, I'd appreciate a run-down.
I've acquired a set of uprated front springs, and as I've not done this
    before, any help is appreciated.

    Cheers, Laurie.
1263.6Two jacks !WSTENG::HICKMANPeter HickmanMon May 30 1994 21:0916
Well many years ago.....

I used two jacks, one for the wishbone and one for the spring pan. With both
jack in place remove the four nuts and bolts holding the spring pan then lower
the jack under the spring pan and the spring comes out!! And if you think its
as easy as that your in for a long weekend...

It may help to loosen the one of the inner wishbone nuts to give the spring pan
some room to move. I don't know if this is the official method but it worked
for me.

Now how about the quarter eliptical rear springs....

Have fun.

Peter.
1263.7Use long boltsMARVIN::BRYANTMon May 30 1994 21:2813
Two jack sounds very dangerous to me. If the spring slips if anything
    slips it would be lethal.

I did the job many years ago. I undid two of the bolts that hold the
sping carrier in the wishbone, and replaced them with two lenghts of
studding. Then I undid the other two bolts (they were diagonals) and
then gradually released the tention on the studding. Assembly is the
    reverse process.

I think that this is the method recommended in the manual.

Thanks chaps. Method two is that recommended in the manual (which I
found at the weekend!). I'll assess both, I've never been averse to a
bit of tinkering! The part that bothers me is the fact that I'm
removing the current standard 270lb springs, and replacing them with
400lb springs. The "two-jacks" method might not be too sound an idea!

Another one; does anyone know how to change the oil in the front
dampers? I've been advised to replace the current oil with R40, which
I've bought. However, I don't know how to change it, and the manual
doesn't even mention it. I haven't worked on that type of damper
    before.

    Cheers, Laurie.
