1226.0. "Parking at Heathrow" by OVAL::GUEST_N (Nowhere at all....) Fri Sep 14 1990 13:18

For the first time i'm about to leave my car at Heathrow - Terminal 4.
I'll be flying out this afternoon and returning Sunday Evening.

Should i go short term or long term ? And any other info that could be
    useful for timesaving etc etc...

    Thanks

    Nigel

    Definitely Long-Term. Short-term's a rip-off for a stay in excess of
about 4 hours. L.T. works out at about 6.50 per day or part thereof
whereas S.T works out at about 1.70 per hour.....

1226.2long term !!KERNEL::MCGOWANFri Sep 14 1990 13:279
I'd say go long term, unless you're staying less that 1 day. Last
year I parked in the short term, thinking I was returning that evening,
but was delayed until the following day. The car park fee was 38
    quid !!

Better still, if it's a lease car, lend it to a friend if they'll drop
you off then pick you up again.

The long term at T4 isn't very far away; you can walk it in 5 or 10
mins, if you haven't much luggage.

It's much nearer and cleaner than the T1/2/3 equivalents.

    Peter.

also worth considering is parking at Queens house and catching the
Railair link from the station. works out cheaper in the long run, and
removes hassle of coping with Heathrow traffic.

All the long-term parks at Heathrow have a free bus to the terminals, which runs
(theoretically) every 7 minutes. Much easier if you've got bags to carry,
but, as Jane says, allow half-an hour for getting stuck in traffic and such.

Another good trick to look out for is those trips which start at T1/2/3 and
return to T4. Different car parks, different buses, different sides of the
field.

If you get caught in one of those, there _is_ a transfer bus between 1/2/3 and
4, and if you speak nicely to the driver, he'll drop you off by the
car-park bus stop. Allow an hour.

At the risk of confusing further, I've used FLYAWAY... a collection and
delivery service. Basically, you call and pre-book, tell them which
dates you depart and arrive back, the flights, terminal and the time that
you expect to arrive at the airport.
Then, you drive straight up to 'departures' ... ignore the yellow
perils and a FLYAWAY person shows up to drive off in your nice car.
On return, ring them from baggage claim and (in principle) the car
shows up as you exit the Arrivals hall ! Chuck in your bags, pay the
man and drive away. Their number is 081-759-2020/1567.
Cost was 36 pounds for Sunday to Friday.
Downsides - 15 minute wait on Friday night due to traffic .. not too
bad, as it then took me 35 mins from the tunnel to the M25 !!!!

If you are just going away for the weekend and have no baggage...

But for a longer period it sounds like a good idea. Where do they park
the car though ? Is it 24 hour security ?

    Nigel

On Sunday evening it took me about 1 hr 30 from getting off the plane
to Fareham. And that was going via T4 long term after landing at T2.

Anyone got any idea of the cheapest way to park a car at Gatwick
from a Friday morning until the following Monday afternoon?

Any telephone numbers of long(ish) stay parking places around the
    airport gratefully received.

minimum fee, but this covers you for up to TWO hours.

I have used "Airways Cranford Parking" at Heathrow before - they are cheaper
than the long term car parks and supply a mini-bus to take you to your terminal
and collect you again. The cars are held in a floodlit compound at the west end
of the runway (surrounded by razor wire !) they are on 081-759-9413

Hi all,

Can anyone update the info here on the cheapest option for long term
parking at Heathrow?

How much do the Off site parking facilities cost? Since the introduction
of the "bussiness" parking, has anyone else noticed that the bus turn
around time to the new parking at the east end of the runways is much worse
than the old long term was?

Thanks,

Terry

Try the Family Car Park. It is on the A4 near the airport entrance, but
it is hidden behind a factory. There is minibus service to the
terminals. It looks like a dive but they are very helpful and about
half the price of the on-airport parking. Despite the name, a lot of
    regular business travellers use them.

I don't have the number to hand but they are in Yellow Pages.

Just got a brochure through from FlightParks Ltd. who charge 6 pounds
per day at Heathrow (3.60 per day at Gatwick).

    Their number is 01293 784971/784037

I use these folks when travelling from Gatwick and can't fault their
