1106.0. "<Glasnost Motoring?>" by PEKING::GERRYT () Mon Jun 11 1990 17:31

    Has anyone any experience of owning, or know of people with a LADA 1500
    RIVA estate ?

    Is it any good for towing?
    What's fuel consumption like with the 5 speed box when you're not
    towing ?

1106.1Only good for towing if its got the power as wellLARVAE::BURNS_Tlive hard..... die young ????Tue Jun 12 1990 14:3711

    No experience of the lada but after returning from towing a carvan
    round scotland for the last 2 weeks I would advise that the lada may
    not have sufficient power to CAPABLY a heavy load. It may pull it on
    the flat but you must realy have the power to pull on the hills as
    well.

    Formulae for towing is aprox
    85% of car weight with braked trailer
    and min 40 BHP per TON of total outfitt weight.
1106.2My opinion, anyway!IOSG::MITCHELLElaineTue Jun 12 1990 15:393

    The _ONLY_ thing to tow with is a Landrover..... :-)

1106.3Only the new ones with 3.5 will do it WELLLARVAE::BURNS_Tlive hard..... die young ????Tue Jun 12 1990 15:597

    Only a 3.5 will do cos the others loose power on the hills all by them
    selves with out any load, assuming I am talking about hills on a road &
    that the speed at the bottom is the same as the speed at the top & is
    in eccess of 40 MPH.
