1020.0. "Non classic cars as investment?" by AYOU33::RICHARD () Thu Apr 12 1990 12:39

    Investment?

    Is there a car which may be called an investment i.e. you sell it for
    more than you bought it? A time period of less than 2 years is planned.

    No knowledge of cars or maintenance available so 'classic' cars are
    out.

    Anyone any ideas.

	I'm given to understand that slot racing cars are having a boom
	period at the moment.

	I would however warn against anything you could drive araound in
	and particularly 'classic' cars that have achieved high prices.

	You price cynic thinks that the slump that's about to hit these
	cars will be as great as the boom that inflated them - ie. huge.

>>It would be cheaper to maintain and run than an E-type.

Maintainance bills for my E-type for the last 3 years have been about #400
and running costs - tax is usual, insurance is #150 pa fully comp. petrol?
Who cares with a car like that! I get 18 mpg on a run anyway.

    	Actually the basenote specifically states 'no classic cars',
    	doesn't want to get hands dirty.

    	Bit of a stiff challenge this one.

    consider one of the later triumph spitfire 1500's;

    Cheap to run and maintain,currently increasing in value at 15% a
    year.....cheap open top motoring..

    How about a late Beetle convertable, the main VW dealers will still
    service them, in fact the basingstoke one was selling 2 of them, and
    they still made them in the late 70's so they will not be as "basic" as
    the standard earlier beetles, they also do not loose their value, if
    well kept, they will gain !
