968.0. "1969 MG-MIDGET Sale Price ?" by SENIOR::WENTWORTH () Fri Feb 23 1990 23:02

I am looking for the value (in US Dollars) for a 1969 MG-MIDGET.

I have been restoring this car for about the last 7 years and
    have done the following:
    All new breaking system (entirely)
    All new A-arms, bushings, springs
Rebuilt the motor but it is starting to burn oil (too little use)
    New seat covers, carpet, dash
    New tires
The car has some rust spots on all four fenders, needs paint, roof,
bumpers, and interior panels and trim.

I was recently indirectly approached by a man who just lost his hobby
MG in a divorce battle and wanted to know if I would sell. I have
never though about selling before and therefor have no idea what it is
    worth.

    Any suggestions ???

Start at around $1000 for a basic car which requires a fair bit of work, and
from $5000 upwards for a concours model. Ones in good condition requiring no
work to be useable go for around $2-2500.
Hope this helps.	Brian

Hi Mo,

I am currently doing a rebuild of a 1967 MG Midget.

This is a total rebuild down to bare body shell, including re-build of
bulkheads, suspension, braking, bodywork, engine and gearbox, and wheel bearings
plus of course all interior fixtures and fittings.

I estimate this car will be worth (once I get valued by the MG Owners Club) in
the region of 4000 pounds.

Before this I rebuilt a 1974 MG Midget.

This was a suspension, and lower bodywork re-build (ie new sills, new door posts
new, rear and front quaters to the rear wings (fenders)) and new upholstery.

This car was valued at 2400 pounds and I sold it last may for 2200 pounds.

If the rust on the four wings of your car is minor, then I would estimate that
your Midget is worth from 1500 to 2000 pounds.

If however the rust on the four wings is quite major then I'm afraid your
looking at a price in the region of 1000 to 1500 pounds.

Unfortunately, bad body work can really bring down the value of the car!!

I don't know what the conversion between Pounds sterling to dollars is at the
moment, but I hope this gives you some idea of your MG's worth.

Of course, you could always get the MG Owners Club to give you an official
valuation.

To do this you need six photographs of the car (all sides, plus under
bonnet/hood and interiors) plus all bills of relevence.

If you need an address for the MGOC in Britain I can get it for you.

Cheers,

Steve

    Hi,

Just for confirmation, I agree with .1 evaluation : To give you an
idea, this is the FEB 90 quote for a ' Midget 1500 cab ':
    Outstanding condition : $ 3700 ; To be restored : $ 1200
Of course, those prices are averages.
    hope this help,

Okay, this does it, now I'm upset. People are just indiscriminately taking
notes and not looking into the significance of their numbers. I mean, where
else would I start a discussion of the infamous Zaporozhets ZAZ-968M then in
note 968? I can understand people accidentally taking such notes at 911, 928,
930 and others. It isn't like Porsche is a 'big' manufacturer or anything, but
to just gloss over note 968 as if Zaporozhets never made a car is infuriating!
