915.0. "Home-Tune Mobile services" by PEKING::MCSHANEG (Alas poor Yorik..I knew him well) Tue Jan 09 1990 14:34

    	Car not well.  :-(

    	On various occasions I've spotted a 'Home-Tune' type van
    	at work in the DecPark car park. Do We (Digital) have some
    	form of discount/agreement with this company ?.

    	If so, (or even not) can somebody please recommend one of these
    	mobile services who are willing to come out at short notice ?

    	Ta.

    	Gary @ REO  |-)

    	(PS cheap(ish) if possible!!)

    Automek do mobile servicing etc and are listed in the PHH handbook
    for servicing PHH lease cars. Their 24 hour number is 0272 723173.

915.2Word of caution ....VOGON::KAPPLERJohn KapplerWed Jan 10 1990 12:238
    Slightly different aspect.....

    I believe there is a rule against servicing and repairs being carried
    out in the DECpark car park, unless the vehicle has broken down there.

    Hate to see you get into trouble.....

915.3Must check P&P...PEKING::MCSHANEGAlas poor Yorik..I knew him wellThu Jan 11 1990 12:269

    	Thanks John, but I've not seen anything displayed/published........

    	Anyway, I eventually called out ENGINE CLINIC who arrived within
    	two hours. Full 57 point tune-up service for 28.00 + Vat.
        (parts if required Xtra). Car now OK.

    	Gary @ REO :-)

915.4Need a tune up.FIZGIG::BIGGINMWed Apr 15 1992 14:5811

    Has anyone had there car tuned by one of these mobile places recently?

    I've read the last few notes but they are a little out of date, so does
    anyone know of a decent mobile-tune place and can I get the work done
    in the DECpark car park?

    Cheers,

    	Matt.
915.5Engine clinic..Paul Lucas..REPAIR::ATKINSWed Apr 15 1992 16:0013

    	I had my car tuned about 3 months ago.This was done by Paul Lucas
    (I found out about him through notes)he did a very good job,and it gave
    my old car (the Nova) a new lease of life(almost).He has a great
    interest in cars,as he does a bit of rallying on the side,he also
    explains alot about what he's doing,which is useful to a novice like
    myself.
    				His number is on the system somewhere,if
    you don't find it give me a call as is i've got it buried somewhere.

    	Hope this has been of some help
    				Andy....

	Pauls number is:      0734 323007

	mobile:		      0836 534020

	(The name is Engine Clinic)

	He does our cars, including the NG TC V8.

	He races his own dutton in sprints and hillclimbs, and now has another
	car which he rallys.

    Thanks very much for the number I'll give him a bell this afternoon, do
    you know roughly how much it will cost?

    Cheers,

    	Matt.

    BTW: I mat get it done tommorrow as I don't fancy standing in the rain
    for 30 mins much!
915.8Cost.REPAIR::ATKINSWed Apr 15 1992 17:347

    I'm sure it costs about 25-40 pounds.It's 25pounds for the tune,and
    then he sticks extra on for parts,such as spark-plugs.
    		I hope all goes well tomorrow.

    	Andy.

915.9Coming tommorrow.FIZGIG::BIGGINMWed Apr 15 1992 18:0112

    I've given him a bell and booked it in for Thursday morning so if you
    see a weeping Mini owner sulking around DECpark tommorrow you'll know
    he found something wrong!

    He reckoned on price it's about 30+ pounds for the tune-up and extra
    for parts +VAT, oh and that's with a little DIGITAL discount.

    Cheers,

    	Matt.

    Ken Bell (of Fleet) also runs a Hometune service - besides his normal
    garage services, particularly as an 'Alfa Specialist'.

    I believe they have worked on cars (not mine) at Digital premises before.

    If his mobile work is as good as his in-house stuff, then I would
    highly recommend him (and his mechanics)...

    Their number is 0252 629159 (maybe another number for Hometune, but
    the phones are at the same desk).

    If anyone does call him for work, do me a favour and say that I
    gave the recommendation (John Rutter, owner of an Alfa GTV6).

    Note that I have no connection with this company, other than being
    a [satisfied - even if broke :-( ] customer of theirs.
