Dunno about these kW/tonne or whatever, but I do know that on a wet road last
Friday my E-type with (supposedly) 325 BHP and weighing around 30 cwt and on
205/70ER15 tyres with 6mm tread was all over the road if I squeezed the gas
pedal a bit too hard......
871.40Don't ask what it cost....SUPER7::BROWNYou might as well twist it too.Tue Sep 04 1990 21:3314
Sorry folks, it has to be my car....

Minilites, Oil-cooler, Leather seats (beige with red trim), in Healey

	The Marlin's out, it's a 2+2, and so's the 911 (any variant). So,
I'd have to go for one of:

Caterham 7 - flying around roads in a shoebox appeals to me.
Big Healey - the only "muscle" car that I like.

the RS (lightweights) & the recent Clubsports are only 2 seaters

i'll agree with the Caterham tho'	:-)

Ok, I've resisted long enough! :^)

    There is only one choice...

A Marcos Mantula Spyder! Rarer than a Caterham (what isn't these days?),
a lot prettier (what isn't?) and a lot more civilised (possibly not
quite as quick as some of the more extreme 7s though).

    Mark

PS For real gut-wrenching performance though, Derek's 23 takes some
beating, I've never experienced anything quite like that, except
possibly driving the Marcos at 70mph with no front or rear windscreen.

You mean the "James Dean" special?
871.52No!IOSG::MARSHALLHarry PalmerWed Sep 05 1990 16:207
James Dean's car was a 550 Spyder. The 356 Speedster was, I think a slightly
earlier model, and somewhat different in shape. A bit like a stretched beetle
(VW kind) with no roof and made to look nice, very nice...

Can provide piccies of both types of car for anyone interested.

1935ish Aston Martin 1.5 Litre would take a lot of beating
as a 2 seater fun car - if you could afford it - which you
	can't.

	What me???????

Next time the weather forcasts doesn't mention rain - we are in the
process of getting a tonneau (sp?)

Mind you, with no doors, and the wet weather gear on - you get quite
friendly when you climb in and out of the "window"!!!!!!!!!!

After having driven one now for 2 months+, I have to say the Alfa is one of the
most FUN cars I've ever owned. And you can even cram a third person into the
luggage space behind the seats if necessary (E-type cushion fitted :-) ).

45 mpg, decent, although not startling performance, cruises all day at 75-80
without any trouble (except smokies ...) comfortable, even, dare I say it, sexy.

One complaint - it leaks in heavy rain onto my left leg.

	RE. -2

 >> Is the 914 the VW Porsche?

Yes and no in fact the 914 Build between 69 and 75 have 3 types:

	914/4	4 cylinders 1700 inj VW engine
	914-2	4 cylinders 2000 VW engine
	914-6	6 cylinders 2200	Porsche

 I've got a 914/4 and it is a real fun car. A real 2 seater, not a 2+2 with
a mid_engined.

    OK.

You've all had enough time to come up with the correct answer. I've
owned a few of the cars mentioned and driven a few more. The GT40 is
the closest answer. The correct one is the 427 Cobra. A few were
sold in racing form but street legal (U.S.) and the toilet paper was
of little use. You couldn't lean forward to pick it up.

I have to add that my wife will argue her MX5 against the lot.
