858.0. "Roadworks!" by MARVIN::RUSLING (MicroServer Phase V Session Control) Thu Nov 16 1989 18:07

How about a note for warnings of road works springing up that are
likely to affect DEC drivers?

I can start of with road works at the junction of Lower Earley
Way and Babbington Road. That's the road that runs parallel to
the M4 and past Shire Hall in Reading and the first left turn off
it as you drive away from the Junction 11 roundabout. As I arrived
there this morning, they were errecting temporary roadworks lights.
Withing 5 minutes, traffic was backed up almost onto the J11
roundabout.

858.3Closure of section of A325, new A3 open ???ESBS01::RUTTERRut The NutThu Jun 25 1992 14:1615
    On the section of the A325 from Petersfield to Liss,
    I have recently seen a large sign warning that :-

    		THIS ROAD WILL BE CLOSED FROM 29th JUNE

    Does this mean that the A3 extension, or at least a part of it, will
    be open from next Monday ? Or does it mean that I will have to find
    an alternative route (eg A3 from Hindhead) ?

    Anyone know ? Or know how/where I should find out ?

    I don't want to find out the hard way by following Diversion signs,
    since I am sure there will be plenty of others doing so next week...

    	The new A3 is scheduled to open on July 9th. The section to Liss
    	has to be closed before that to complete that section of the A3
    	(the A325 been using one carriageway of the new road for the last
    	few months).

    	I don't know what diversions (if any) will be put in place. I'd
    	guess that the Hindhead route will probably be easiest, although
    	it's normally pretty congested at peak times.

    Last note entered June '92 !

    Just seen postings for the closure of the M4 J12-J11 on
      11th March 20:00 - 12 March 20:00 (this weekend )

    Taking a whole day out to remove the old bridge where the new
      service stations will be.

    I think it reopens at 12:00, not 20:00. The sign is ambiguous - it
    suggests that the motorway will be closed for 2 nights.

    I suspect it will reopen earlier, and the time given is in case they
    cant clear the debris as quickly as they hope.

858.7 "Roadworks" in Jamaica! CHEFS::POWELLMThe x3030 contractor.Mon Jan 22 1996 19:1110
    	Talking of roadworks, On a travel show on TV last week (or may be
    I had video'd it and watched it last week) about Jamaica, they showed a
    scam which is being used by the locals on the back roads - a guy with a
    red flag and another with a wheelbarrow and shovel etc. caused one to
    stop on the road, where upon one was relieved of all one's cash and
    anything else useful in the car!

    	Kind of put me off going to Jamaica!
