850.5Mazda - From Where ??VOGON::MORGANWhat part of NO don't you understand ?Tue Mar 27 1990 13:0810
    Does anyone know which garge any Mazda on the lease scheme is ordered
    from ??.

    I want a test drive of a 323 GT and my conscience says that I should go
    to the garage at which the order will be placed.

    Thanks for any info.

    The one that gives them the best discount!.

    First, we source from both PHH and Hertz, thus it could be either
    depending on the particular quote.

    Second, the lease companies do not have 'approved' suppliers, rather
    they put out requests for quotes, if the garage wants to take a lesser
    margin, but get the turn-over, they give an attractive quote.

    Thus a particular garage could, for a while, be prime suppliers, but
    then they may reduce this discount or another may give a better
    discount.

    Thus you can't really tell WHO will get the contract even if you DO
    place the order. So stop concerning yourself about it. As a colleague
    was once told by Citroen (after having a test drive refused by a nearby
    dealer because it was a lease), "they are our agents, if you want a
    test they should give you one as we (the manufacturer) still end up
    supplying the vehicle".

850.8I'm happy too!CHEFS::OSBORNECThu Oct 04 1990 22:5145

    Had my 16v Hatchback for over the time now. Has done 52k without the
    slightest trouble. Just been down to Decville with it, towing a trailer
    all the way -- on back roads over the Massif Central & Haute Provence.

    Great fun on 1 in 4's, & full lock hairpins galore ...sufficient poke
    to make sure I didn't hold anyone up -- I would hate being a mobile
    chicane.

    Splendid car. Noisy at 70, but remains just the same right up to xxx.
    That can be misleading -- went under a motorway bridge with plod on top
    at a speed which was considerably more than politic. No problem, I
    suspect partly because it is such an unmemorable car that plod don't
    react to it in the way they do to a bright red Turbo Esprit or similar.

    Only faults I can find is that if driven VERY hard indeed, it can get
    ragged at the limit -- way beyond the tolerance of most passengers &
    not likely to be a problem on the road. I found out on a circuit ...

    Also not a good tow car on wet grass. Front wheel drive & fat low
    profiles mean that it is often almost impossible to get going with a
    heavyish trailer (one ton plus). No problem on any other type of
    surface.

    Have never bought the same model car again -- am about to, if only to get
    air conditioning.

    BTW, u can keep cruise control. IMO, absolute waste of time in UK/Europe,
    unless thrashing down to Valbonne on Autoroutes or similar. Driver's seat
    can be adjusted every which way, but remain xxxxx uncomfortable. I put
    a beady thingy on mine the first time I did 800 miles in a day in the car
    -- it's stayed in ever since.

    Makes BMW, Volvo etc look lousy value for money. Most of them have much
    less performance, vastly more money by the time you add some basics like
    leccy windows/roof, ABS & all the other essential bits u get thrown in on
    the Mazda. Trivia like alloy wheels are a bonus.

    Someone once asked about consumption. Haven't a clue. Never checked it.
    Must be better than 20, so good enough. Burns unleaded.

    Would like a turbo version ........(only available aftermarket so far).

850.9Over 30..VOGON::MORGANPhysically PhfffttWed Oct 10 1990 19:087
    Ok, so I wasn't that heavy with the right foot but on the first tankful
    I'm getting about 32 mpg on unleaded with the 626 GT.

    Pretty impressed I thought it'd be in the mid-twenties.

    Anyone know the size of the boot space in a Mazda 626 GT coupe?

    If possible in cubic feet ('cos I know what that relates to in space in
    Vauxhall terms)??

    If not, have you got a number for a Mazda dealer?
850.11contact numberCHEFS::OSBORNECTue May 14 1991 14:4614

    Nope, but it's big. I tested one before buying my 626 GT hatchback.

    Big boot (but narrow opening as I remember it), & 60/40 rear seats.
    You can carry a surprising amount.

    Try Reading Mazda 0734 660543.

    BTW, my 626 has now done 65k, & is over 3 years old. Still pulls
    200 kph in Germany with ease. Highly recommended as a quick, reliable,
    Q-car. The only reason I didn't take the coupe was that I thought it
    was much more noticeable than the hatchback -- by plod, & by the
    boy-racer brigade. The h/b is just as quick, & much more flexible in
    what u can do with it.

    6'5" might be tight, but a Deccie who is the same height drove down to
    Decville with me in mine with no problem -- as passenger or driver.

    The only tightness is headroom, & that tends to be better for long
    people than short -- as the drivers seat goes further back, & is
    reclined more, so the available headroom increases.

    The only way to find out is to go & try it. If you're around Reading
    you can try mine anytime.
