734.0. "2 cars + 2 drivers = 1 cheap insurance policy ?" by AYOV10::PDAGLEISH () Mon Aug 21 1989 17:58

    I plan to come out of the car lease system in December, buy a
    second-hand car ( it may be a Reliant Robin -:) ) and insure it
    myself.

    I know that the Royal will give a certificate of 'no claims bonus'
    for the three years that I have been in the scheme.

    My wife's car is also insured with the Royal and has maximum no
    claims bonus.

    Is there an insurance company that will insure both cars and ourselves
    under the same policy ( so that I don't have to pay two premiums )

    We both clock about 4000 miles per year, I am tea-total, and she
    near enough to make any difference.

    Anyone had a similar situation ?

    Phil

	NG TC 3.5 V8     2-drivers       270 quid - can't remember who with

	Montego 2.0GTI   2-drivers       350 quid Royal I think, through
					 swinton insurance

	The NG would have been 50 quid cheaper if I was over 40

734.17Only one NCB ?FUTURS::FIDOTue Jun 30 1992 18:186
    The main problem with these 2 car, 2 driver policies appears to be that
    only one NCB gets increased ( according to brokers I have spoken to ).
    Has anyone got one of these policies that allows both drivers to carry
    on getting their own NCB ?

	I was in this situation, I had a copy of the NCB, and touted it around
	different brokers, I ended up with full NCB, and with the number of
	actual years personal NCB stamped across the front - which started at
	zero.

	So, I could build my real NCB up, whilst paying the low rate for full
	NCB - if you see what I mean.

	Oh, and I forgot - Dave has full NCB on a car, he has a second car, and
	as he can proove he has full NCB on the first, they'll give him full
	NCB rate on the second - whilst he builds up the second NCB.
