455.0. "Whats YOURS called?" by RDGENG::RDAVIES (see figure 1) Wed Jan 18 1989 14:25

    My wife prompted this question: She said she was fed up of everything
    being called by numbers and letters, whatever happened to good old
    names.

    Prime examples are Renault: 5, 11, 21, TS ,TL, TD.
    			Citroen: BX, CX, AX, 19RD, 16RE, 19GTi 16v.
    			BMW:     316i, 525, 737Mi.

    I know good old ford, vauxhall and Rover use names, but even they
    are catching the virus RS, CD, XR4x4 800, 200.

    What do you prefer?, names or letters?

    Different perceptions, WHAT - I bought your Volvo mentioned in 455.20 when
    you left Galway Bill, in 1980 or so and it was the breaking of my
    heart, and should have been fitted with a front tow-bar as it developed
    faults that the dealer would not believe, but thanks for the memories
    anyway.

    	The current Rolls Royce was, right up to the day of the
    announcement (at some motor show I think), was going to be called the
    "Silver Mist." At that point in time, it was discovered what this
    would mean in German! The name was changed PDQ.

455.41Brabhams go like s**t...IOSG::DUTTNigel DuttMon Dec 07 1992 15:226
    I remember reading that Brabham were at one time going to race under
    their official company name, which is MRD. Then they realised how that
    would sound in French using the French pronounciation of the
    abbreviation. I'm sure Patrick Chevaux can explain that one
    for non French speakers, but it's along the same lines as the "mist"
    example.
