25.0. "What's your tip for 2000" by CHEFS::SMYTHI (Ian Smyth 830-3869) Wed Jan 06 1988 21:33

The "best of class" note prompted this question?

Of the cars available new in the UK in the 80s, which will become
the classics for the next century? Lets not talk of the F40, GTO, Vantages etc
but the ones mere Deccies have a hope of purchasing and maintaining today ( and
selling at a vast profit next century if there's any juice left).

For my money the following seem to be a good bet but I could be persuaded..

MGB V8, GT and Roadster
TR7 Convertible
Alfa Spyder
Alfa GTV
Lancia Monte Carlo
Fiat X/19 (not sure about this one)
TVR Taimar
Ford RS2000, RS1600 etc (not XR3s or RS Turbos)

They don't have to be sports-oriented but I'm pushed to think of a saloon
to include. Possibly an series III XJ6 or XJ12 (but don't buy yet for a couple
of years)

A bit older than intended, but forgotten, is the Triumph dolomite
sprint. 2ltr 16valve, already looking as though they will appreciate,
    but still affordable.
And hopefully, with the change of ownership of Rover, the
unreliability problems will have gone, as they were mainly due to badly
    made parts !!!
