2000.0. "Contractor's Reference Area" by SERENA::WEISS (Trade freedom for security-lose both) Mon Feb 19 1990 12:43

The block of notes from 2001-2050 has been reserved as a contractors reference
area. Each note is reserved for a different kind of contractor. Reply 1 to
this note contains a directory listing of the notes in this block currently
being used. This may change from time to time - extra space has been left at
the end of the block of notes, so new ones will be added as needed.

**VERY IMPORTANT**

Due to liability issues, we no longer allow negative references in this area.
If you have a negative experience with a contractor listed in this file, send
mail to one of the moderators and we will delete the positive reference.

*ALMOST AS IMPORTANT*

This reference area is for recommendations of contractors whom you have used.
It is NOT for ads for contractors you are associated with. Digital policy
specifically prohibits use of company property for business ads, and any ads
entered here will be deleted. Note also that due to the biased nature of the
source, any references for people you are closely connected to - ie relatives -
will be considered to be ads.

STILL IMPORTANT :^)

To help people find references as easily as possible, please use the following
format for your note title:

-< Name - [sub-specialty -] Area >-

The sub-specialty would be something such as a FHW heating specialist under
Heating Contractors. Massachusetts is implied in the area unless otherwise
specified. In any recommendation, please include as much information as you
can. Cost, quality, and timeliness are all important. Other information like
the name of the particular person you dealt with if it is a large company is
also useful. DON'T FORGET:

Area (This IS a worldwide notesfile)
Contact information (Address and Phone)

If you don't find what you want and need to ask for new recommendations, ask in
the appropriate note, and then delete your query after you receive responses so
that only recommendations remain in the note. Queries not deleted by the
author will be deleted at a later date by the moderators.

2000.2Bob Boyd -- Miscellaneous home repairJARETH::SPARKSTue Sep 14 1993 19:2512
  Is anyone looking for someone to take care of miscellaneous home repairs,
  including interior and exterior work such as wallpapering and
  painting?

  Bob Boyd in North Andover is an excellent referral. He is knowledgeable,
  meticulous, thorough, responsible, reliable, honest, reasonable ($$$),
  and accommodating.

  Bob's telephone number is (508)683-8367.

  Bob can provide several references.
2000.4Bob Lister / Legion Builders 1-800-499-0500AWECIM::ERICKSONWed Dec 01 1993 18:1214
I am having a 2800 sf. brick-faced hipped-roof colonial built by Bob. I asked
for 6 quotes from other builders and after calling on 6-8 of Bob's references, we
asked Bob to start building. You wouldn't believe his allowances or referred
associates. Kitchen designs at about 40% off. etc. Most homes built in our area
are $70 - $100 sf. Bob was the best price. Now we are seeing the quality.

Bob is a one man operation (one salary instead of partners) and excellent subs
you can talk to with no problems. His price beat many buy 30-60K. No one came
close to his allowances. I am a carpenter's son and an engineer and he tolerates
me. Please call him if you need a home, land to build or any remodeling.

Only one other came close to building our house, the next door neighbor.

2000.12Excavator to dig shallow well (?)OPNDCE::FURNANZTue Apr 25 1995 17:1713
I need to replace my point well and would like to avoid the high cost of having
a well drilled. So, I am looking into having a shallow well put in. I live
at a low elevation, and two of my neighbors have had this type of well for years
without any problems.

I think all I need is someone who has a backhoe, does excavation work and is
willing to line the hole with those large concrete (drain-like) tiles and then
backfill.

Any contractor recommendations for the Amherst area?

Thanks,
Mike

    You may also need approval of the board of health, which you may not
    be able to get for a dug well. Boards of health do not like dug wells.

    Just something to consider; it may not be relevant.

2000.20Sheetrock hangers/finishers?SALEM::NELSON_DIf I knew Picasso.....Mon Jul 08 1996 12:5713

     In reply .1 of this topic it states that 2028 is the sheetrock
     contractor's topic. It is not.

     I'm currently finishing off my basement (now at the sheetrocking
     stage)and trying to make the decision to DIY or have the work done by
     someone who has a clue.

     I've read through some of the walls-sheetrock topic and there is some
     conversation about DYI vs pro, but I couldn't find any
     recommendations.

     Any pointers?
