2019.65NH LANDSCAPER REFERRALSCENIC::SMITHGo Celtics!Thu Jul 02 1987 12:3420
For once, I'd like to enter a referral for services, instead of
complaining! Recently, we and our neighbors had a significant amount
of excavation and landscaping done in our back yards. I am located
in Manchester, NH and had a huge hill for a back yard and definitely
not functional for a play area. It is now a green, level area ready
    for badminton, volleyball, or whatever!

TED BANTIS LANDSCAPING, Manchester, NH was responsible. They took
out several loads of tree stumps, hauled out trucks full of dirt,
built a retaining wall of landscaping timbers, loomed and seeded
the upper area above the wall, and put sod down on the lower part
of the yard. It is absolutely beautiful! Ted really cares about
the customer-I watched them put up part of the wall, and they took
the time to do it right! His prices are reasonable for quality
work. (wow that's unusual) His phone number is 603-627-8519 for
    those interested.

If you need more info feel free to send me mail at SCENIC::SMITH.

2019.1Rich's Landscaping - BillericaNSSG::ALFORDMon Feb 29 1988 12:1910
For anyone in the Burlington/Billerica/Chelmsford/Wilmington area
I would recommend "Rich's Landscaping" --- located in Billerica,
    run by Bob (?) Rich.
I had him do a brick patio, walkway, retaining wall, and lawn for
me last fall. He does excellent work, is efficient, on-time, and
    I thought reasonable.
I believe is phone is 667-4158, but I will double-check tonight.

    RE .2
Thanks! I contacted Ken Hamilton and he came down to look over the
sight. He has a small diesel tractor with a variety of attachments,
including a back hoe. After looking over the sight, Ken decided
that the power auger wouldn't do the job because of all the bowling
ball size rocks. He offered to try the job with the back hoe
    attachment.

This past saturday, Ken came over with the tractor and started digging.
It took about 20 minutes a hole, which is sure a lot faster then
I could do manually! He was able to do 35 holes in one day.

His set up, although smaller then construction grade equipment, was
certainly nothing to sneeze at. I was impressed with Ken's skill
on that machine, and his effort to do the best job possible. He
certainly knew how to handle those rocks. At one point, he pulled
out a rock over 2 feet in diameter; more then twice the width of
    the shovel!

If I have any more landscaping work, I will definitely contact Ken
again. He does a nice job and charges a good price.

What a great feeling it is to see those fence posts finally sticking
    out of the ground!

    Regards,
    Denis

You might want to try Elite Fence in Wakefield (they do Billerica,
    Burlington).

Last year they did a QUALITY job for me (150' of 6' slightly scalloped
cedar on gothic PT posts, plus 100' of post and rail). The bill was
$3200 (slightly more than the "Reliable" and "Expert" fence people
estimated), but they were fast and did a great job. I have real rocky
soil, and although I'm an avid DIY'er, this job was not for me.

Oh yea, I needed a fence survey also. If you need a recommendation for
that, I used Middlesex Survey (N. Andover). $450 for a 5250 sq ft plot.

Now that the work has been completed, I can throw in an "official"
recommendation for Gate City Fence, in Nashua, NH. They came out
on the day they were scheduled, and were more than willing to
work with me on post and gate location. Once we settled to the
final location of the posts, etc, they went to work putting all
the posts in and cementing them in place. They let the posts sit
over night, and came the next day and put all of the fence fabric
and other hardware in. The fence is straight as an arrow, and tight
as a drum (by the way, they did CHAIN LINK for our yard). I went
over their work with a fine tooth comb and couldn't find anything
I was unhappy with. They cleaned up after themselves, and did
an extremely professional job. I recommend them highly.

2019.14Neil Jorgensen - Landscaping - HarvardNETMAN::SEGERthis space intentionally left blankTue May 03 1988 20:5715
I've had some landscape designs done by Neil Jorgensen of Harvard. 456-8733.
Basically there's the overall design and then the implementation (planting,
etc). As for the plan, the starting point is a scale drawing of your property
including as many trees, rocks or other interesting pieces of the existing
landscape. Since this part involves a lot of labor, I drew up my own and saved
a few bucks.

Neil can get as creative as you want to get as far as working with you. He can
simply draw up the plan and walk away, implement the entire thing for you (big
$$$'s for big plans) or consult on an as needed basis.

If you need any other references, give KO a call. Neil did his landscaping a
few years ago.

results at several places. As best I can tell, they do
    good work.

I would suggest you ask them about some jobs they've done

2019.20Lang's - Nashua, NHMENSCH::LEVESQUEOh, yeah! The boy can PLAY!!Fri Oct 27 1989 17:0733
I'd like to recommend Lang's in Nashua. The person I dealt with was
Matt Lang. He drew up a plan which matched various colors and time
    of blooming, etc.

We had them do the work and so far things have been great. That is "so
far" because now we wait to see if everything that was planted grows
next spring. In any case, all plantings are guaranteed for 1 year.

Initially we wanted granite for a curved stairway, but that proved too
expensive ( > $4500 just for that). Matt suggested railroad ties, but
we weren't thrilled about that. He went out and found some "flat
rocks" that he built into the embankment to form steps. I've never
seen anything like it before (although I'm sure someone has done it)
and thought it looked quite different and distinctive. Matt liked it
too. He's a stickler for "having the right look" and he likes to have
the freedom to move stuff around from the plan if he thinks it'll look
    better.

We pretty much gave him carte blanche in terms of arrangement once we
had settled on a basic plan and price range. He did end up making what
would be considered major deviations from the original plan, but I
think he did a super job.

They're not cheap, but I was pleased with the attention to detail and
the quality of the work. Matt came out and replaced 3 plantings that
we didn't take to...2 red-twig dogwood were replaced with something
else, and a sickly quince (?) was replaced.

Anyone who wants to check it out can send me mail. Matt does have a
photo album of several jobs they have done. He wanted to add ours to
the album since the "flat rocks" was a new touch.

We would like some advice about landscaping - specifically a reference
    in the Chelmsford area.
What we'd like is to have a landscape 'consultant' work with us to
develop a landscape plan which we could then work with over the
following years - we plan to do most of the work ourselves.

Ideally the plan would be a professional sketch of the lot, with
plantings identified and properly placed on the sketch, estimates for
    the individual stages etc.

Any references? Also - what should we expect to pay for this service?

2019.23Dave's Landscape Co., Framingham MANRADM::PARENTIT'S NOT PMS-THIS IS HOW I REALLY AMThu Jun 21 1990 17:0619
We've recently been using Dave's Landscape Co. and have been VERY
satisfied. Dave's an enthusiastic young man who is in the business
to stay (not just a summer job). In addition to weekly mowing we
have had his crews perform some clean up in a wooded area of our
yard and also weed/edge/mulch our flower beds. In each instance he
called back to ensure we were happy with the jobs - which ended up
costing considerably less than the original estimates. He's also
good about returning calls and shows up when he said he would.

I recommend his company highly: Dave's Landscape Co.

I've scanned the replies to this topic, and can't tell if any of them is
right for me... But this seemed like the best place for my question,
anyway.

I'm looking for somebody (professional, or private citizen) just to cut
my grass periodically. I'm not that fussy, and my lawn doesn't look
that great anyway; I just don't want it to become overgrown.

I live in Northboro, MA. Can anybody recommend a nice guy/gal with a
lawnmower who's reliable and reasonable?

Thanks!

2019.32Lang's Landscaping - Nashua, NHQUARK::LIONELFree advice is worth every centThu Sep 19 1991 17:1633
This is another recommendation for Lang's Landscaping, Nashua, NH.

We just had extensive work done by Lang's, and Matthew Lang in particular.
Our yard looked like a minefield after having a dozen trees removed. The
grading was all wrong, and the back yard had never had any kind of grass
established.

I didn't have any grandiose plans - I asked that the lawns be graded properly
and enough loam provided to support a "real" lawn. The first place I called
gave me a very high quote to do exactly that.

Then Matthew Lang came over, and with his experienced eye suggested how we
could turn what seemed like a motley assortment of trees and bushes into
an unusual, beautiful and low-maintenance lawn, replete with curving raised
and mulched beds around the trees. And for this, his quote was 30% lower
than the first company.

He suggested some additional plantings and moving some of our existing plants
to better locations, and we agreed to a very reasonable additional charge
for that.

The end result far exceeded our wildest expectations. We had neighbors
bringing other neighbors by to look. Everything was now tied together
and gave us lots of opportunities for further enhancement. Lang's even
included fertilizing and reseeding the lawn in the original quote!

There's only one problem... My wife now says that the landscaping is so nice
it makes our house look frumpy by comparison!

We fully intend to consult with Matthew Lang for future landscaping work,
and give him and his family crew our highest recommendation.

We just enlarged our driveway and needed to have some accompaning

Matt Lang was very professional and did a great job.

The work included a retaining wall with landscape ties, a flower box,
a brick walkway from the front door to the steps down to the driveway,
landscape tie steps on both sides of the driveway, plants including
a miniature japanese maple tree, and bark mulch.

But it was somewhat expensive... in the neighborhood of $3000.

John Bonica did an extensive landscape reconstruction at our
neighborhood pool in Acton (located on Musket Dr.). We had numerous
sink holes in the hard top, which required removal of the hardtop,
filling sink holes, and reseeding (hydroseed). This was all done last
summer and this summer the grounds look terrific. The lawn came in very
well and has withstood the drought well. No further problems with
sink holes. And the concrete areas for shuffleboard, 4-square, etc.
have shown no cracks or settling.

It depends on what you want done. If you know exactly what you want, they
will do it for you. If you want them to design something, they're not
terribly imaginative - most of their work is in commercial landscaping.

Their submitted plan for my landscape redesign was rectangles of this,
rectangles of that, flat, boring and expensive. Matthew Lang came up with
an elegant and attractive design at a lower bid.

I have used Morin's for replacing a tree and some other minor work (digging
out a plant bed and refilling it with loam.) I had to watch carefully and
get after them to do the job as specified, but they eventually did it ok.
They weren't as careful as I would have liked when they had to temporarily
remove a shrub for access and then replant it - they put it in backwards
and had not protected the soil against compaction so the replaced shrub has
not done as well as others nearby (it will eventually recover).

I second the suggestion for Kennedy's. I just signed a contract with
them, and they will be working on my property in the next two weeks.

They are highly professional, and have excellent follow-through. They
called if they were going to be late to appointments, followed up with
an estimate (written, and very detailed), and then follow-up with a
phone call to ensure that I understood the plan, and was ok with the
    estimate.

What I especially liked was that there are alot of things I would like
to do, but I can't afford them all at once. I had them price out each
job, and then I picked what they would do now, and what they'll do
later. I made it clear that I was looking for a vendor who I could
have as a partner to help make my property look the way I wanted over
time. They were very comfortable with that, and followed all my
    requests.

I have been to their nursery, and think their stock is very nice. I
also think their prices are reasonable. I dealt with the partner (if

Matthew Lang's work is top shelf and his "eye" for creating an optimum
    visual outcome is amazing.

Due solely to the comments in this notesfile from people like Steve
Lionel and others, we went with Matthew. Could not be happier.

As background, we had over 70 (large pine) trees removed last fall from a
house that we bought last year. House never had a yard, much less a
landscaped finish. Overgrown shrubs, lousy planting placement, poor
land contour, etc. You get the picture - a mess.

I gave Matthew carte blanche latitude to do whatever he felt was
appropriate. Three days later, they were completed and the place looks
amazing. Went from the worst property in the neighborhood to one of
the best. The neighborhood "observers" were all highly approving :^),
with one of them already inquiring on Matt's phone # for discussing their

We had these folks do some major brick and retaining wall work
to our yard this week. Brick walkway with granite risers,
rough-cut granite stairs, mauve-colored retaining walls of
stackable, rough-cut blocks, a brick patio, peastone walkway,
and minor bed/mulching work. They got the job done ahead
of schedule, kept following up with us to make sure we were
happy at each step, and basically said "send us a check when
you're happy with the results". We were, so the check goes in
the mail tomorrow. Doug and crew have done many houses in
our area of Merrimack, so we had quite a few reference sites to
check out. Definitely a thumbs up.
