This note is for recommendations for the type of contractor listed in the note
title. If you need to ask for recommendations, please delete your query after
you receive responses so that only recommendations remain in the note. Queries
not deleted by the author may be deleted by the moderators.

In any recommendation, please include as much information as you can. Cost,
quality, and timeliness are all important. DON'T forget to mention the area.
Other information like sub-specialties, and the name of the particular person
you dealt with if it is a large company, are also useful.

*VERY IMPORTANT*

Any negative references must remain as factual as possible. As a mental
guideline, ask yourself if you would send your response in to be printed in a
major newspaper. Any responses which could be considered libelous will be
deleted.

For electrical work in So. New Hampshire call:

    		Phillips Brothers Electrical
    		Raymond, N.H.

Contact Bruce Phillips, the number is in the book. They did
the electrical work on my new house and did an excellent job!
Even the hard nosed town inspector said it was one of the
best jobs he had seen. The price was reasonable, the work
was done professionally and timely. They installed more outlets
than the code called for and also did cable TV and telephone
    	in every room!

I added extras during construction which were doen without
    	complaint and minimal extra charge.

I would definetly use them again. I wish all my contrators
    	worked like these guys did.

I've used Soucy Electric in Manchester exclusively for about 10
years. Most recently, they did the wiring for my pool. Nice guys
and very reasonable. They're good at estimates, in that they've
never surprised me with a bigger than planned for bill, and when
they can, they come in below the estimate.

We used Dave Watson of Tewksbury, 851-0297 recently. Dave's brother works
with my husband, Jan. We ran our electricity/utility wires
underground and the work Dave did was very thorough. He worked fast,
was reliable, always showed up when promised, his price was very
reasonable AND he's a nice guy. We will definitely use him again
when we get to the wiring in our addition.

Note 517.12 Questions on redoing my kitchen 12 of 46

-< Update 1/5, and recommendation for electrician >-
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yes, work is still progressing. We called a two week truce through
the holidays to allow for cleaning and guests. I've replaced two
30"x60" rotting old windows with 30x40 Andersons, put a window where
the kitchen door was and added a door at the back of the kitchen.
All of the work that remains is indoor.
A good deal of my delays have been trying to plan two projects
ahead while doing this project. I want to add another bathroom
above the kitchen next year, so I've got to plan where to put the
piping and move the heat ducts. This weekend I found that sheet
metal working is not as easy as I thought. I became totally frustrated
and gave myself a nasty cut trying to relocate a FHA duct. Time
    to call in the experts.
While trying to plan where to put the *fourth* sub panel on
my electrical system I decided it was time to upgrade the old 60
amp system. The electrician we used was very professional in his
work and attitude, plus his price was right. He is a Master Electrician
for Teradyne and runs a business on the side. He charged $500 for
a new harness, box and 8 breakers. He was easily $300 cheaper than
the other estimates. I give him a very strong recommendation.

The main task now is to figure out how to light the kitchen.
I've got some books on the subject, and some help in design from
General Builders in Norwood, where we plan to buy our cabinets.
Does anyone know of a lighting supply company in the southern 128
area that will help with lighting design?
We are still hoping to get the walls up by the end of the month.

2007.11Valera Electric - WestminsterJUNIOR::PELTONENThis -NOTE'S- for You!Wed Jun 15 1988 16:3115
I had the (old and inadequate 60 amp service) wiring in my house
totally redone by Valera Electric, Westminster MA 874-5846. I
was very pleased with both the work and the price. I had an addition
done at the same time, and Peter did not try and BS me about the
overall price.....something I appreciated. I had a whole lot of
existing stuff "cleaned up" in the cellar and a few other new
fixtures added throughout the house....Peter quoted a flat rate
for the service upgrade (to 100 amp) and estimated all the rest
at 2 men X hourly rate.....and his estimate for time was actually
a little high, thereby costing me less.

I would not hesitate to recommend them to anybody.

I highly recommend John P. Geary III of Woburn, MA. John installed
a new service entrance cable, a new panel, and did the rough and
    finish wiring for my addition.

He did an excellent job and gave me fixed price estimates for all the
different work. He even threw in a few extra's (light bulbs for
the new fixtures and replaced a broken outlet in my garage).

His phone # is 932-3135. My home is in Concord, MA, so he will
    travel reasonable distances.

Russ Electric has just completed several days of work at my house
rewiring my kitchen, installing new kitchen lighting, installing
outdoor lighting, etc. I am very satisfied with bith the price and
the quality of the work. I will not hesitate to use them again for
any other renovations we undertake. If you work or live in the
Framingham area and are interested in examining their workmanship,
  just send me mail.

I recommend Peck/Levasseur in Bedford, NH. They wired my new house.
Dan Levasseur is a nice guy to talk to. I expressed some concerns to him
(which I picked up in HOME_WORK, btw) such as screw terminals (as opposed to
push in connections) and he assured me that he and his men use only the best
(screw-ins). He swears by Square-D thingies and complained that each time
he tried the latest-down-the-pike, he got burned and went back to Square-D.
They wire Manchester's River Fest every? year. Their $3750 bid was $500 to
$1000 less than other bids.
Anyway, they travelled up to Dunbarton, NH. You might give 'em a call.
(Mine was new construction. What's yours?)
    His phone is 472-3583.
2007.15Russ Electric - Framingham, S.C. Electric - MilfordMPGS::MARGOLISPaula BethThu Dec 29 1988 14:4729
Upon recommendations from this note, I hired Russ Electric out of
Framingham to hang my ceiling fans. They did a terrific job! One fan
was hung on a first floor and they had to notch the wall and ceiling
to wire it. They did incredibly neat work.

The original electricians who wired the home and hung all the fixtures
obviously didn't care about workmanship. They:

    1.  Forgot to install the basement outlet;

    2.  Did not center the kitchen sink light;

    3.  Cracked the siding when installing the doorbell;

    4.  Splintered the wood where the garage light hangs;

    5. Incorrectly placed the kitchen telephone jack (put it where
        the cabinets go);

    6. Miswired the bathroom medicine cabinet lights and had to take
down the medicine cabinets to fix. Left gaping holes behind them
and rehung them crooked. When asked why they needed to be taken down
in the first place, they denied ever doing it.

    7. Hung the outside lights crooked.

When they came to install the basement outlet, I found them to be
quite rude and chauvinistic. And I hadn't yet complained of the above
    problems...S.C. out of Milford, MA
2007.16Aaron Hill - Londonderry, NHTLE::THORSTENSENFri Apr 14 1989 17:0330
Mt house was in sad need of rewiring and service update, so I read
various notes on electrical topics and went through these
recommendations for someone to do the job. By the time I called
electricians, I had a pretty good idea what was needed. I also called
my very-reliable-and-trustworthy electrician who had moved away from
the area to confirm my evaluation of time/money/expertise required.

I called Donny Gilbride (notes 2008.5) and decided (emphatically)
that I would not hire him. I mean, you'd think I wanted to re-wire
Pheasant Lane Mall ... enough said.

I called Dave Watson and discovered that he's moving out of the
region. Dave gave my call to Aaron Hill --- Dave has known Aaron
for many years and highly recommended him.

After talking with Aaron and comparing his talk/estimates with other
electricians and what my old electrician said, I hired him. The project
worked out *extremely well* and I would certainly recommend Aaron for
    any electrical project.

Aaron used to be an electrician for Apollo, but decided to go into
business for himself. He's honest, polite, thorough, and not afraid
    to offer suggestions.

2007.18Ed Baird of Boylston-- Thumbs upMILRAT::HAMERunder repair, proceed with careThu Jun 15 1989 17:1915
A good recommendation for Ed Baird (E.C. Baird Electrical Contracting
is how he gets his checks) in Boylston, MA. (508) 869-6450. His work
tying our modular house together and correcting some of the creative
uses of 3-way switches imposed by the builders was very satisfactory.

His bid was OK and he itemized his bill to clarify any variations. He
also was fair in crediting for parts I supplied and for the fixture he
destroyed with the side of his head. The local wiring inspector--
known as a hard case-- commented very favorably on his work during the
inspection.

He did not ultimately delay our move-in, but he did take a while
getting to us.

2007.19Daniel Electric Co., Smyrna Ga.OASS::B_RAMSEYonly in a Jeep...Wed Aug 09 1989 00:4145
I would like to recommend Daniel Electric Company. The owner, Andy
Tyson, came out to perform the quote. I called back 4 weeks later and
he remembered my house and its problems/challenges by me using my name
only. He did so, so quickly that it seemed he did not need to check
any references. We stated his quote and billed exactly the quoted
amount although during the execution of the job they did additional
labor which was not on the quote.

The crew sent out appeared at the work site on time and mostly well
prepared. They were lacking a dryer outlet and they used a radio in
their truck to have another worker bring it to the job site. The two
fellas worked non-stop for 3 hours without a break. They came back
from lunch when they said they would and finished the job in 2 hours,
again with no breaks. I offered water/soda which they declined. They
cleaned up after themselves during and after the job. They took all
trash with them. The crew was pleasant and very business like.

We had them move and upgrade the main service panel from 60 amps to 150
amps, install a new meter in the new approved location, move the mast,
add a dryer outlet and add a washer outlet. While there, they also
added two outlets on the same wall as the new panel and a light fixture
and separate switch under the house in the crawl space. The additional
work not on the quote was done using my materials so the only expense
    to them was labor.

When the inspector showed up two days later, he mentioned that Daniel
Electric does good work. Reassuring that the county inspector feels
the contractor does a good job consistently.

P.S. I usually do all my own HOME_WORK projects but my wife prevailed
on this one. I watched and must say that the right tools, and having
done the task before makes a world of difference. These people
were professional and so efficient they hardly ever spoke to each
other. It was nice to sit back, drink a beer, have the job finished
    and never get dirty. :^)

Barry Shelley really needs to be mentioned a second time. He is an
excellent electrician who works for DEC by day, and privatly on the side.
His rates are very reasonable, and if you've done any bid shopping, his
work is worth every cent of what he charges, and then some. He can
be reached at DTN 289-1149 or at RUTLND::SHELLEY.

I am "making over my kithcen and living room. I say making over as opposed
to remodeling, because I am removing the standard ceilings, and going to
vaulted ceilings, almost totally gutting the present interior. I have
been slowly remodeling the entire house; this is the last leg.

In past remodeling projects, I'd been splicing wires in a large splice box
in the attic, and in the haste to finish my own rough electicity and get on
to the carpentry, I'd never labeled any of the circuits that I'd spliced.
I'd done them right, but not taken the time to label my work.

Anyhow, this present part of my remodeling is the biggest to date. All the
electical stuff in the kitchen and much of the living room needed to be
moved, all my wires needed rerouting, etc. I called Barry, he promptly
came, looked at the job, estimated and started. First he figured all of
my circuits out, rearranged those that weren't loaded correctly, then
worked with us to sanity check and improve our lighting plan in the
kitchen. Barry is also very generous about sharing his knowledge and
expertise. He works quickly and neatly. When we ran into a couple of
surprises in my electrical service, he took care of those too. Above all,
he's a very easy guy to work with, and really cares about the quality,
speed, and neatness of his work. He was also almost half as expensive as
the nearest bid!!

My wife and I recommend him without qualification. Feel free to call me
for any further info.

Brangwynne and he lives in Billerica.

I had a major addition put on my house this summer and had Russ do the

and moonlights on nights and weekends. His work is pure quality and his
prices are very reasonable. He's willing to work with you, and if you
have changes, he has no problem doing them.

Tony wired our basement and installed all the electric fixtures there.
He was brought by my contractor (Bruce Hanson of BMH construction,

section) who remodeled our basement. We were so satisfied with Tony's
work, we asked him to add fixtures in 4 rooms in the upper floors and
do some rewiring in one room.

I highly recommend Tony because he is very professional, he is very
honest in his work, his pricing is reasonable, and he is a good person

literally try everything to make you happy (at least wrt his work).

Al Bergeron and his partner Dave are finishing up my place and
they were fantastic! As they were doing the rough electric work
they were always making suggestions and improvements to what was
on the electrical print. Lots of nice touches like quality materials
and easily understandable labels in the breaker box. Separate breakers
for refrigerators, microwaves. Lots of little things that make a
    class electrical system.

Of the 15 or so contractors I've dealt with on my project so far they
have been the best in attendance, communication and caring about
    customer satisfaction. Real pros.

They live in Leomister MA and am sure will travel to all areas in
    the central Mass/lower N.H. area.

They do Industrial, Commercial and residential wiring. That's how

2007.34Brosnan Electric - WorcesterESKIMO::BOURGAULTTue Jun 19 1990 03:1430
Brosnan Electric, in Worcester. Small enough to pay attention
to customers, large enough that one of their workers is
available in a reasonable amount of time.

I used them just over a year ago to upgrade the service (to 100-amp)
in the house we'd just bought. I got a quote on the job first,
and called a few weeks later when the budget said we could do it.
Part of the job involved replacing a bunch of small fuse boxes
with one large circuit breaker panel. The heavy cable coming into
the house was about 4" too short to reach the right spot in the
breaker panel..... so they replaced the cable from the meter into
the house. No extra charge -- it was a quoted job, and they stuck
to the quoted price. The job was done quickly, competently, and
with a minimum disruption of everything ELSE going on in the house
at the time. I had to look hard to find any trash that they
    missed picking up.....

My folks used them more recently - about a month ago. After a
small fire in part of their attic, they NEEDed some wiring replaced
in that part of the house. While they were at it, they got
the fuses replaced with circuit breakers (finally!!) I can't
recall (I heard once) what the final cost was, but it was
reasonable. Even if it did include a lot of be-careful type
work.... installing a wall switch in a newly wallpapered room,
running wires without disturbind hardwood flooring, etc. etc..

You may mention my (also my Father's) last name, if you think it
    will help.

Hi,
I know good help is hard to find, so I want to recommend a great
electrician that just did some work on my condo.

His name is Adrean Courtade, he is a lic. electrician, with more then
15 years experience. He works weekends and does emergency calls at no extra
charge. Also free estimates.

He will do anything no matter how big or small. He charges $30 an hour and
he will charge you 1/4 hourly rate($7.50) after the first hour.

He is really a great guy not just a great electrician.

ADREAN COUTRTADE

Some examples of prices for work in my condo:
(I did not have all this done but this is what it would have cost)

Add a receptical (ground fault )in the bathroom all mat. inc. $35.

Wiring and installation of exhaust fan in bathroom(you supply fan) $50.
(He picked up the fan for me and charged me his price for it because he gets
a 10% discount at the place he goes. I do not know if he will do this for
everyone but who knows.)

Wiring, assemble and inst. of paddle fan in bedroom(you supply fan) $65.

Wiring, assemble and inst. of paddle fan in livingroom(you supply fan) $90.

Fans are wired to be controlled by switches on walls.

ADREAN COUTRTADE

These prices were for a place with an unfinished basement or one with a drop
cieling, and unfinished attic.

I will add another voice in the chorus recommending Bill Steinhart of
    Steinhart Electric.

Bill installed a new feed and socket for our kitchen stove (We were
getting a new one and didn't want it directly wired in like the old
one). He showed up on time, which is blessing for any contractor these
days. He finished the work straight away, and then spent some time to
offer advice on the wiring for further kitchen improvements we had in
mind. What was interesting, was that his advice in general was how not
to use his services. He started prefacing his sentances with, "Although
I would gladly do XXX for you, you would really be better to do YYY and
    not even need an electrician."

I found him very knowledgable, friendly, and always willing to tell you
what your options are, inlcuding the option that cuts his income.

I really must recommend him highly.

Ask for Jim (the owner), and feel free to use me as a reference.
He's done two major jobs for me (200A service upgrade, and wiring a
basement refinishing), and I'm very happy with the quality,
    responsiveness and price.

    Best of luck,

I'd like to strongly recommend

	Paul Lemieux
	(603)673-5602

I had a GFCI problem with my Hot Tub. No one could figure out what
was going on. I had both an electrician and a spa repair person out
to my house at the same time, and neither could identify the problem.
In fact, both were pointing the finger at the other claiming it was a
problem with the wiring, or a problem with the tub.

Paul worked with me to go through all of the circumstances surrounding
the problem, he then came out to the house (right on time!!) and found
the real culprit. He was also very thorough, testing all of the
possibilities instead of guessing at the problem and suggesting that I
swap out an expensive part to "test the theory".

It's not often that you find someone with this dedicated and
competent.

                           Adrian Courtade
                           70 Bishop Drive
                           Framingham, Ma.
                           (508)620-0716

We recently had some work done on our home in Sudbury, Ma. by Adrian Courtade
and are very pleased with his work and will use him again in the future.

We had him replace our fuse box for a circuit breaker panel and we
also had him replace the wire cable that fed into the outside electric meter.
Before he did the work, he indicated that he would bring the wiring up to code
because it would not pass inspection by today's standards. (Our house is close
to 40 years old.) His prices, IMO, were very reasonable ($500 for circuit
breakers, 100 amp, and $200 for the outside wiring.)

Adrian is very honest and takes pride in his work. He is a one-man operation
and will return calls, eventually. He does provide free estimates and
he does work on Saturdays, schedule permitting.

Jean Wong

P.S. Getting Adrian was the easy part. The hard part now is to get the
wiring inspector to call us back so that we can arrange for a time so that
he can come into the house to approve the electrical work!

I would like to recommend Hefco Wiring from Lowell, MA. Hefco is just
completing the wiring of my new house. The electrician doing the
actual work is Mark (don't know his last name). I have alot of special
wiring (low voltage, dual coax, whole house speaker wiring) and had
alot of trouble finding an electrician who knew much about this but
Henry (the owner of Hefco?) knew alot about it. Also, their prices are
reasonable. Mark was very good about always asking me how I wanted
things wired, where I wanted things, etc.

good rate, and is pleasant to deal with. The phone number in

Based on all the recommendations for Paul Lemieux, I gave him a call
and left a message on his machine. No response, so we left another
message. It's been over two weeks now and we still haven't heard
back from him. Now I didn't think too much of it when he didn't return
my call immediately..could have been on vacation etc. etc. but I would
have expected to hear from him over two weeks later.

Did anyone else who hired Paul run into this? I suppose there could
have been something wrong with the answering machine as well. I'm
debating whether to give it one more try.

thanks......helen

Yep. I can't recall what his recorded message is, but it does

I would definitely hire again should we need any other electrical

I had asked Mike Spencer at NuWave to get me a quote on the complete
job. He ran through a fairly thorough list of questions with me
on the phone and fax'd a quote to me the next day. He even
contacted the company we're getting our ground source heat pump
from to get all of their electrical requirements. His quote was
thorough and 10% less than the competing bids.

My husband and our excavator were scheduled to lay the conduit for
our under-ground cable, phone and electrical service (200'). We
left a message for Mike saying that we were planning to do this on a
Saturday and would need him to set up the temporary service as soon
as possible there-after. Mike called early Saturday morning to
say that he would like to help with the conduit installation
so that he could run the wire at the same time. We were really
pleased to have the experienced help. He and his partner were
on site within 2 hours and worked until the job was done - IN A
