236.0. "Slipknot has a new Drummer! Check personal name." by LJOHUB::RILEY (Without a slip of the toungue...) Mon Jan 27 1992 14:59

I am pleased and honored to share some very exciting news, both for me
personally, and also for a band that many of us have enjoyed over the
years through good times and bad, etc etc etc... and all that good
    stuff.

Slipknot has a new drummer, and he is known in these parts as the
    TREEMAN!!!!!

    YeeeeHAH!

I would like to thank Bruce, Barry, Mark, John, and Geoff for bringing
me in for an audition (or four), and the chance to share our musical
    presence with each other.

The last three or four weeks have presented me with all kinds of new
challenges, and factors in facing a monumental decision, and happily
that part of it is over, and we (Slipknot) can face the challenge at
hand.... Keep the music playing without missing a beat!

Unfortunately, Jack decided to leave the band for personal reasons. It
has been a decision that has been looming over his head for a few
months now, but he is not gone forever, because there are plans
underway to utilize a two drummer setup on occassion, and I look
forward to that prospect and playing with Jack (whom I have a great
    deal of respect for).

I hope you can all join us for my first night out this Saturday at the
Blue Plate in Holden, MA. and I look forward to being a part of providing
music to fill the air for many years to come with a band that I've
admired for quite a while now.

Enough talk from me, let's LISTEN TO THE MSUIC PLAY!!!

    Peace and Happiness,

Now I KNOW this guy belongs in the band!-)))

This news was particularly good for me to hear, as moments before (on Friday)
I was informed that my contract would be terminated 4 months prematurely in
order to aid the great cost cutting effort here at DAS. Oh well, just when I
had started to come out of read only mode :-(

We're all psyched to be playing with Treemon, and looking forward to those
future gigs like Slip into Summer that will allow us to have a legitimate two
drummer set up!!!

See you all at the gigs.

I hope it's obvious but I should point out that I am referring to Treemon's
new musical association. The news about Bruce's DEC contract is not grate
news. 8^(

Thanks to all! I'm needless to say very excited about this.

Indeed Jim, Fast Lane is now on my repertoire, in addition to other
Slipknot originals like: Imaginary Day, It Didn't Take Long,
Sigo&Pattio, The Day Will Come, Better Back Off, In the Pines, Fork in
the Road, Westbound Train, Clear the Sky, A Million to One... I know
I'm forgetting a few others we've played together...

Also, there's talk of having the two drummer setup at Slip into
    Summer...

From the "Like you care" department:

This drummer has expanded his horizons. Maintaining a strong
preference for acoustic (real) drums, but realizing that electronic
drums can be lots o fun for space jams and surreal effects...

I picked up some Simmons electronic drums and a brain (no jokes pleez)
from Daddy's yesterday)... These things are COOOOL They work with
guitar effect pedals etc... I haven't tried MIDI yet :^)

Be on the lookout for a fieldtest at Slip outta Summer... You oughta
hear these things played thru a digital delay pedal!!!

Plus, Jack'll be there (SOS) so we should have a bit of fun :^)))

Pads are fun to play, especially when you get used to them. MIDI drums
are especially neat-o because there are SOOOOOOOOOOO many sounds to
choose from and you can choose to trigger them through your acoustics,
to keep the "feel." I'd love to get a couple pads to complement my
kit, but they cost bucks... I'll wait 'til my band starts making some
    dough (HA!).

236.24BelaMONTOR::HANNANBeyond description...Tue Sep 08 1992 13:276
THE wierdest "drum" setup I've ever seen is the one used by
Bela and the Flecktones. It's called a drumitar. Looks like a
[wierd] guitar, but it plays drums/percussion. The guy in the band
who uses it invented it.

    RE:.-1

Ken, that sounds pretty wild... Actually this type of thing really
inspires me... Take a guy like Mickey Hart for example... here's a
guy that has invented an intrument (The Beam) and he plays it out at
about half of his performances... For the leading tour band in the
    world no less!

I'd love to get into "weird" drum setups, and inventions of percussive
instruments that are played out... Concepts like making a drum kit out
of Bongos & Congas that's played with soft mallets... etc...

If any one has other bizarre or creative ideas.. post them here PLEASE!

You're really good at that, Tree. We've all noticed... Slipknot
equipment failures have produced some really hot drum solos. :-)
