Minimalist sounds, pretty tunes, rock&roll attitude.

| I have a tape that a friend made for me back in 1984, of little known
German groups. I'll have to remember to bring it in and ask how these
groups are doing, or even if they're still playing.
As for the Scorpions - they're pretty durned good! :^) I even like
the fuss over that one album cover (the one with the tattoo artist and
the naked lady - wish I'd bought it!)

| Anyone remember German progressive rockers "Triumvarate" (spelling may
be way off, but you get the idea)? They were along the lines of ELP...
I like about half of what I've heard of the Scorps. The negative half
is always the "power ballads" from my perspective. The whistling in
their last US single was really hokey.
Give me the down-to-earth rockers like "Hurricane"... I also liked
their appearence in "The Wall", although I feel they were a bit
underutilized.

I sure do. I have everything of there's I know of. I even have a
"Spartacus" T-shirt and "Spartacus" on CD (although "Illusions on
a Double Dimple" is my favorite Triumvirate (note spelling) album.
I started a note about them in one of the old MUSIC conferences.

| Kraftwerk, not exactly the stuff of heavyweight guitars, but probably
the most influential German band to date. Are'nt Tangerine Dream
(zzzzz) German? Nina Hagen is still knocking about, she's
playing/played some London dates. I've heard the late Klaus Nomi on a
few occasions and he sounds/sounded pretty good. Then there's Herbert
Groenmeyer (sp?), enough said.

| Oh, and don't forget Germany's jazz contribution - most notably Klaus
Doldinger and Passport, but there has also been some very good
experimental jazz out of Germany. Plus, credit Germany with the
invention of "torch" singers and the Cabaret style in general...

| Amon Dull II...any band with titles like "Dehypnotized Toothpaste" and
"Marilyn Monroe Memorial Church" has *gotta* be awesome, right? 8^)
8^)
Can...the only German rock band I can think of that had both a black
American and a Japanese guy as lead singers (not at the same time,
though). Oh yeah, and half the band were ex-members of Stockhausen's
ensemble.
Wasn't Ash Ra Tempel from Germany as well? Man, there must be
*something* in the water over there 8^) 8^)

| I brought in my tape today!
Can anyone tell me whatever happened to the following groups, if they
are still out, or if they just faded into oblivion? (I am copying all
of the information that was written on the label by my friend):
Spliff - Berlin group
Joachim Witt - German New Wave
Ideal - Berlin Group
Karat - East German (communist) group
All of these groups are pretty good, and (as I got the cassette in
1984) I'm just curious as to their further successes, if any.

Amon Duul II's "Ein Deutsches Nepal"....the utter pinnacle of trip
music. (What does the title mean, anyway ?) Great cover art, too.
Wasn't "Finch" (mid-late 70s progressive rock quartet) a German group ?
Kind of an overblown ELP-like band...had only one album that I saw
stateside.
(I know they weren't German, but Ekseption were a phenomenal group of
musicians....Ekseption 00.04, in particular, was pretty hot.)

195.20 | Herman the German | ARRODS::OHAGANB | That's you that is | Mon Apr 13 1992 14:07 | 6 |
| Herman Rarebell's got to be responsible for some of the worst
HM lyrics ever. "Dynamite" is one and there's another equally
bad offering on "Animal Magnetism" which I fail to remember the
title of. Otherwise, I've still got a soft spot for da boys.

| Best Scorpion's tune I've heard is a fairly old one, I think;
something like "Streets We Call the Zoo"? It got some airplay
over here, had a nice raw feel too it. The more recent Scorps
material seems smoother and more pop metal, but I could be wrong;
maybe I'm just turned off because I hear the newer stuff so often.
Isn't Accept a German band? Everything I've heard and seen from
them seems above average; their singer appears to be a real character.
Another band I've been meaning to check out.

Faust were a European band from around 1971, one of the very
first to experiment with synthesized sounds and put them on
vinyl. Listening to it today you might wonder what was so
great about them, but they still seem to hold cult status
amongst those old enough to remember (ahem).

| This is a question to all of you :
have you ever been on a SCORPIONS - Concert ??
NO ??
What a shame .
I'm not very often goin' to a concert, but The Scorps was one of
the hottest life-acts ever seen, and one of the best.
Mainly Klaus Meine was in extremly goog mood ....
This is some time gone , but unforgettable.
Anyone else been on a concert ??
If you have the chance to ...... take it ... it will be worth the money
Some songs are soft ( you know them well ) and the rest is
heavyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

| Yup, I've seen them a few times. The first was on the Lovedrive
Tour at Hammersmith Odeon in 1979. Then again on the Animal Magnetism
tour where Blackfoot stole the show. They only really tightened things
up a bit when Jabs did'nt have to play the older Uli Roth numbers and
their best shows (for me) came around the time of Blackout and Love
at First Sting.
They played at Knebworth for Deep Purple's UK comeback gig in '85
and were IMHO the best band there. The last time I saw them was
again at Hammy Odeon about 3-4 years ago and they still had something
even then. It must be twenty years now since the first album? They're
obviously still enjoying themselves.
