906.0. "Whatever happened to...." by NYEM1::LABUDDE (your basic enfant terrible) Mon Sep 30 1991 22:13

    Whatever happened to:

    Swansway

    Screaming Blue Messiahs

    Bourgie Bourgie

    Bodines

    Half Man, Half Biscuit

I can't help you but could you tell me the hit swansway had - I liked
    it.

Swann's Way - The hit was "Soul Train", about 1984. Now wasn't the singer in
that called Maggie, who went on to become half of Scarlet
Fantastic? (And what happened to them?)

Screaming Blue Messiahs - They've released material in the past couple of
years; surely it's too soon to say "what
                           happened to?".

Yeah, that's another band that I'd like to know what's happened to.

Half man Half Biscuit split. and then re-formed again. They're writing new
material and playing live here and there. The new stuff isn't as good as such
classics as `F**kin' 'ell, it's Fred Titmus', but then again, what is?

Kenny Harris (the drummer from Screaming Blue Messiah's) has
got together with Rikki (bass player from the now defunct
Men They Couldn't Hang) to form a new band.

Can't remember the band name, but I think they recently had a session
    aired on Radio 1.

Their friendship/collaboration stems from the fact that they come from
the same part of Scotland ie Garnock Valley and used to hang out in
the same company of friends, pubbing and clubbing etc

Tom (who was part of the company on a few occasions)

I thought the Messiahs had broken-up, but I wasn't sure. Too bad, they
were amazing live. And nice guys.

They're still around (I think) and are as crap as ever . The last time
I saw them was at the end of '89 and their gigs still comprised mostly
of "Urban Beaches" tracks . I think they released a second L.P. to less
than rapturous applause but I can't be sure .
If they broke up it's quite recent as I saw ads for them in '90.

I've heard rumours about a tour. Are they currently touring in the UK?
There were an announcement, that they are going to play some gigs in
      Germany in November.
Is there anybody out there, who know details about that?

In which line up are they going to play?

I'll appreciate any comment on this.

Did anyone buy The Farm's second album ? I'm assuming that it must be
fairly crap, since I didn't even realise it had been released until I
noticed it in HMV today. So, either I missed the hype that attended its
    release or there wasn't any.

Bourgie Bourgie... Didn't they sing "Careless"

Paul Quin went on to do a Song with Vince Clark after Bourgie Bourgie
vaporized , It was crap..... What he's doing now is anybody's guess..!!
Probably got a stall at the Barra's or something...!!

Anyway.... What ever happened to "Norman Greenbum"...??

Paul Quinn - I met him once in a supermarket on Shaftesbury Avenue, I
was so surprised to see him I just started chatting away to him and
asked him what he was up to; this was pre- the Edwyn Collins duet "Pale
    Blue Eyes" - fabulous.

One of the all time beautiful voices in my opinion, and he IS still in
the business; in fact I bought his new CD a couple of months ago, can't
remember what it's called, I'll look it up at home.

Vice Clarke did a one-off duet with Paul Quinn ("One Day"). Had an Action Man on
the cover.

The Assembly was devised to have rotating front-men (pause to imagine Feargel
Sharkey on a swivel chair, then continue).. perhaps Paul Quinn was on the
album and an unsuccessful single?

I'd like to know more about Paul Quinn's new album. What label is it
on? I fell in love with his voice after he did that ep with Edwyn
Collins (another fave of mine), but I hadn't heard of anything since
then. Now I'll start looking in the import sections again.

I know what you mean about his voice - still has the same effect!

    The CD details:

Paul Quinn and the Independent Group
    "The Phantom & The Archetypes"
on good old Postcard label (yes it still exists!)
and the number on it is DUBH921CD

    The Higsons:

Charlie Higson - Novelist and erstwhile producer/co-writer/extra in
such series as Reeves & Mortimer, The Harry Enfield
                     Show & The Fast Show.

Terry Edwards - Still producing/recording either solo material or Jazz
records with a bloke from Madness under the group name
of The Butterfield 8. The only album of theirs that I
am aware of is entitled Blow! He has also released a
compilation of bands from the Norwich area (himself,
The Higsons, The Farmers Boys, Serious Drinking) which
was entitled something like "Weird Fish in this
Aquarium). He has also recently released a series of
"interesting" cover versions of songs by The Fall and
The Jesus & Mary Chain amongst others.

As for the rest, disappeared without a trace.

Saw the Higsons at University of London in 82. Or was it Queen Mary
