| I've never watched the show, but the "Mr. Rhodes" show tonight
on NBC is supposed to feature a mini-sweathogs (from "Welcome
Back Kotter") reunion. The previews showed a couple of the
sweathogs, and it didn't include John Travolta.

It didn't have Gabe Kaplan either - just a really bad
impersonator of him.

I never cared for him anyways (especially those boring stories
at the end of the show).
Other than "Freddie", the other 2 guys looked like crap (one
has put on a bit of weight, the other appears to of spent too
much time in the sun).
And the jokes were pretty lame (especially the John Travolta reference).
And thank goodness I watched it from tape so I could fast forward
through the rest of the show, I can see why I've never watched
the show before!

| 'Hawaii Five-O' makes a comeback
Book 'em, Dano!
Production is to start next month on an hour-long pilot for a new version
of "Hawaii Five-O," TV's longest-running crime show.
CBS spokesman Teri Corigliano said the cast will be a mix of Hollywood
and local actors. Hawaii Film Office manager Georgette Deemer said producers
are considering using some of the main actors from the original show if they
are interested.
The actor who will play Steve McGarrett, head of a fictitious state crime
busting agency, has not been disclosed. Jack Lord, the star of the 1968-80
series, still lives in Hawaii, but is retired.
Corigliano said the pilot, being produced by Stephen J. Cannell Productions
and CBS Television, could lead to a 13 or 22 episode series.

This show ran until 1980? I thought that was a misprint and it should have
said "70". Then again, if it only ran 3 years it wouldn't be the longest.

| Being a connoisseur of this train-wreck of a TV show, I have mixed feelings
about this.
The thing that made Five-0 such fun for me to watch is just how bad Jack
Lord's acting was, and how trivially moralistic all the stories were. The
typical 70's Hollywood misinterpretation of pop culture was just frosting
on the cake.
I got to know the original series by the progression of the sidekicks who
weren't Dan-O or Chen. My favorite were the early Kono years.
It's a shame, 'cause during the 80s, when I'd occasionally find this show
in reruns, I never did get to see any of the really good red-baiting Wo Fat
episodes.
Somehow, I just don't think a remake is going to make it if for no other
reason than the fact that Ford no longer makes cars the size of "The Big
Island" for McGarrett to go screeching around in.
