| This will be fun to see everyone's personal preferences.
Here's my rating of the eight cruises I've been on:
1 RCCL Song of Norway Best all around - food, service,
entertainment, ports, etc -9/86
2 Sitmar Fairsky Best activities, but not the
'Cadilac' of cruise lines as
touted - 2/88
3 Admiral Stardancer Best value for the price - good
children's program - 4/87
4 Sun Lines Scandanavian Sun Good entertainment and food
- 9/83
5 Regency Regent Sea Great food but corners were
cut elsewhere - 6/88
6 Bermuda Bermuda Star Sailed twice because the 2nd
7 Star Lines time 4 of us went for only $1200
total - ok if you get a bargain
10/84 and 10/85
8 Home Lines Oceanic First cruise when I was a teenager
don't remember much just that
I had a fantastic time.
Sailing next month on the Sovereign and from most reports, I
expect it to be number 1!!!

| With only three cruises, we don't necessarily rate as experts,
but here goes:
1. Song of Norway (RCCL) Small, intimate, good food, very
friendly crew
2. Song of America (RCCL) Medium size, entertainment first rate,
efficient crew and staff
3. Sovereign of the Seas (RCCL) Very large, floating grand hotel, food
service a little rushed, entertainment
(except Shanes and Allen - they are
great) subpar, crew uptight - too
nervous about new ship - should be okay
by now - I'd still go again.....

21.4 | A few that haven't been mentioned before | VINO::FLEMMING | Just the facts ma'am. | Thu Sep 22 1988 12:28 | 31 |
| 1. Royal Viking Sea Great staff, medium size ship, great staterooms
live TV broadcast of many lectures, single
setting meals, great menus, older, richer crowd,
pre and post cruise adventures, shore
excursions were great and bundled into cruise
price and were escorted by cruise staff
2. Sun Stella Solarus Great meals, lots of fruit, super ports of call,
good staff, pooled tips
3. Royal Royal Oddessey Great entertainment, many Hollywood and TV
celebrities, indoor pool which was great for
North Atlantic crossing
4. Sitmar Fairsea Italian crew and cuisine, pizza cafe open 24
hours/day, disembarked in San Juan and they
had rented function rooms in major hotel
and casino complete with band,
lunch, cocktails while waiting for planes.
Will be interesting to see what effect new
management has.
5. Carnival Marti Gras Young crowd, activities always going on,
New Years Eve cruise and drunks pretty much
took the ship apart. Partying is fun but
this was a full scale riot.
6. Chandris Victoria Cheap, lots of ports of call.
Off to the South Seas in November on the Sitmar Fairsea again. Will report
on any obvious changes due to takeover by Princess.

| Just learning notes...just found this conference...but
CAN'T WAIT TO GO ON MY NEXT CRUISE!
Ratings on two ships:
NCL Skyward (6/87) Small ship, and a younger crowd. Had just been
refurbished and was in good shape. Found the
crew outstanding, food "good", and overall
had a great time for the cost.
Sitmar Fairsky (2/88) The ship was superb, clean, with excellent
facilities; far superior to the Skyward, BUT
I was very disappointed with the service based
on what I'd heard re Sitmar...must have been
due to the mgmt changes. Sitmar also drew an
older crowd (average about 50 vs about 35 on
NCL. Had a good time, but for the difference
in price, I don't think I'll go Sitmar again
in the near future.

| My wife and I plus another Couple will be taking our first cruise
in September on the RCCL Nordic Prince. We have planned some cruise
related activity each month as a way of making the wait seem shorter.
Yesterday We went to New York to find the Passenger Ship terminal
and see "Our Ship" (We live in Pa. so it wasn't that long a ride).
There were two cruise ships at the terminal, the RCCL Nordic Prince
and the Chandris Lines AmeriKanis. We were not allowed on board
either ship, that is the rule in New York (Boo Hiss). But from
the outside it was very very apparant that the level of maintenance
is different on the two ships.
The Nordic Prince was neat, clean and shiny from Bow to Stern.
The crewmembers were painting, varnishing, and actively preparing
the ship for its next cruise. The Bow of the ship where most of
the deck machinery is was freshly painted and the deck was neat
with no sign of clutter.
The Amerikanis on the other hand was sloppily painted and rust was
seen in several areas. There was no sign of any crewmembers doing
anything except leaning on the railing. The Bow area was cluttered
with rusty tools a table that was about to rust through and the
machinery had been painted but the paint was spattered all over
the deck. Not a pretty site at all. We all agreed that so far we
have made the right choice.

| (Rating the Ships)
This is my first entry into the "Notes" file, hope it works!!
I've only been on one cruise, but it was FANTASTIC. My fiance
and I went with Norweigan Cruise Lines on the S.S. Norway. What
a ship! It was huge.
The food was excellent, and the entertainment was out of this world.
The show we liked the best was 42nd Street. What a performance!!
We found the crew to be very helpful and friendly. Our room wasn't
all that great. We got an inside room with bunkbeds (for $1,020
each), that was all we could afford! When we cruise again, we'll
definately get a more comfortable room. Although you only spend
minimal time in your room, it was difficult for two people trying
to get ready at the same time.
Other than that, we had the best time of our life and I recommend
the S.S. Norway for a week of sun filled fun!
