2287.0. "Atari monitor and 1000PX interference problem" by NORGE::CHAD () Tue Mar 13 1990 13:13

(is there a better place for this note in theis conference?)

Hi,

I am having a problem with interference on my Atari ST monochrome monitor
(SM124). It sits on a tier of my three tier keyboard stand. On the tier
above it sits a Kurzweil 1000PX MIDI sound module. When the Kurzweil is on
the monitor screen jiggles back and forth (or is it up and down???) or
quivers a bit. It is very annoying and I don't want anything permanent
to happen to it. When the Kurzweil is off, this doesn't happen. This
doesn't happen when the other MIDI gear also sitting in my new rack above
the monitor is on.

Any ideas on how to cure this probem (and exactly what is it? I'm not
that knowledgable about this kind of stuff).

Thanks

Chad

2287.1keep magnets away from color displays too!!!MILKWY::JANZENNoting is a privilege not a rightTue Mar 13 1990 13:265
    If the atari monitor is pretty small, and the power transformer of the
    kurz is directly above it only a couple inches away, it could be
    magnetic field interferences.
    I used to do that deliberately as a kid.

    Does the Kurzweil have a fan in it? How fast does the wiggling happen
    on the screen?

No fan. The quivering is quite quick but it is noticable ie, not blur.

You realise, of course, that the Atari monitor has a 70hz refresh, and
therefore, when placed in the proximity of a 60hz magnetic field, you
will get (according to Mr. Hetrodyne) a 10hz interference wiggle. 10hz
is about worst case for your eyes.

I ended up switching the TX16W and the 1000PX around and now no problem!

Thanks
