| Shoot, I cain just hear it now:
"Hi, I'm Dan Schneider, who the hell are you?"
Re the Dead (and very briefly I might add):
From a musical point of view you cannot say that they are
poor musicians. While I enjoy their music, I'm not a dead head,
but as a musician I can appreciate their brand of musicianship.
One thing that is refreshing about them as a whole is that there
is nothing "canned" about them, in that they play a different
concert every night, as opposed to some bands who will play the
same songs, with the same solos night after night after night...
Keep in mind also that I have *VERY* eclectic tastes in music....
Re Bart:
Did you know that Bart's voice is actually a girl.
Also, Kelsey Grammar(sp), who played Krusty's devious assistant
last week, better known as Fraser in Cheers, is wanted by the
police for failing to appear in court on charges related to
drug abuse...
HOpe all of this helps...

As a person of Scottish descent, I play the bagpipes 8^)
Seriously, I've played keyboards and trumpet for a long time.
In college I pretty much got into the rest of the brass family
(except for trombone), and fooled around with the tenor sax
for a while.
Learned how to play harp from a guy who learned from Willie
Nelson's harp player.
Finally, fooled around with drums a lot in college. Drums are
fun, great way to get rid of your frustrations, but the coordination
needed to be a_excellent drummer is phenomenal, and something, quite
frankly I don't have.
The only thing left that I want to learn is bass. One of these days...8^)

Re: The dead..
I've never seen a "tighter" live band. This is one of the few bands
where the albums don't do them justice, they are better in person
than on their albums. Plus by attending a concert you get to
"experience" the groupies, its very hard to capture this aura on an
album.

Weir? (rhythm guitar) are respected guitarists. I also admit that the
bass player, Phil Lesh? has influenced bassists for 2 decades.
As a fellow guitar player, I could list a hundred axe men that I'd
rather listen to and each one of them could play circles around Garcia
& Bob.
Maybe its because I never got into the drug culture. We all know drugs
are plentiful among the dead and their followers.

| I like the Dead for different reasons then why I like Metallica
or Cowboy Junkies. The music is more mellow, the concerts are a
great (or used to be before all the stupid vendor laws) experience.
Sometimes I'm just in the mood to put on Blues for Allah... other
times I just want to blow the hood off my car with VHalen I or a
gut wrenching Hammett dive bomb. 8^)
The drug culture associated with the Dead is pretty sad. I have
to wonder nowadays though if it had to do more with the times.
Being as I wasn't even born when they got going I appreciated them
for the musical quality and not the fack that they were an awesome
group to get high and lissen to.

While follow eyes the steady keel, the vessel grim and daring;
But O heart! heart! heart!

Well I got a call from none other than Bucky_b_Gone yesterday. Seems
next weeknend he'll be in worcester to visit JOJ. So what I propose
is next saturday 5/19 in worcester we have a basketball game, softball
also if we have enough. There's a decent court and softball field
close to my house that we can use and then we can use my house to
go cooks some burgers and dogs have a few brews. We could do it
in the afternoon this way married guys can go home for supper and
the single guys and adventurous married men can then afterwards
head to Pudgy's or some other local establishment to continue
partying.....
if you're game let's hear it......

just talked to JoJ and he can't wait. Even if the turnout isn't the
greatest we can still do it as there are usually folks hanging
around playing ball so we can invloved in some pickup games. Like I
said earlier my house can serve as a centerbase we can cook there and
should someone get to inebriated they can crash there.....

| It was fun, I must say.
All I could think of as I ran up and down the court was the Kareem
line from Airplane about dragging Lanier and Walton around....
It was great fun, and I'll be all you guys are glad the 'Saw carries
an opener on his key chain...
Windex Dan (ha ha) that was too funny. At any rate, I really kind
of liked that waitress too. I'm still trying to figure out why
that one guy brought his date...
I kind of got a kick outta the guy in the gold sweatpants. I mean,
the court was BARELY big enough to contain the guy's ego.

| Yes, Walt, clearly Dan clanged a few. However, considering my
own HAPLESS shooting performance, I'm the last one to talk.
I believe the Windex appellation (how's that for a word, Dan? ;^))
might be derived from some of our activities later in the evening....
At any rate, the part I enjoyed the most was when we returned to Mike's
house, and Dan almost "reverently" let us look at his Celtics Media
Guide that he received when he sat in the Press Box at the Celt's game.
It was a touching moment.
All in all a fun day of Bacchanalian revelry, the like of which won't
be seen until our nexted get-together....

I never confessed liking heavy metal. Call me a 'vane, call me Magic,
but don't ever call me a metal_head.
re: Dan
Most egregious layup, dude. Ya know, the air ball....ha ha
re: Walt
Thanks for the facials.
What I thought was funny was when that outta control big man on the
other team took my head off under the basket and then bitched about me
calling the foul. Then, two seconds later he gets touched on his layup
and starts bitching about all the hackers.
But, there is no doubt that the best play of the day was
BLITZN::MCFALL'S shake and bake layup. You gotta love that.

But I did tell him that not having the Scorpions Best of Rockers
'n Ballads was a most egregious and heinous omission from his
collection....
JoJ also told me I should narrow my musical tastes. When I offered
to give him my collection of Ravi Shankar sitar music, however, in an
effort to narrow my horizons, somehow he wasn't interested... I just
don't understand it...;^)
re hacking:
What got me pissed off was the time I wanged ACC Chris a good one
on his way up for the shot. Now, being a man of integrity and
honesty, I called the foul. Well, the dude in the gold pants
with the humongous ego and fair skills at best (clearly) really layed
into me for it...
As Fraser Krane would say, "I truly feel sorry for those who have
to measure the parameters and extent of their manhood solely on a public
basketball court in the city of Worcester. Clearly they are suffering
from latent feelings of inferiority and inadequecy..."
At any rate, I may come from farm country, but at least down here
we admit and call our fouls...

Me? "Clang a few"??? Hah! I could step outside any time I wanted and
drain the jumper. But even though my teammates were all taller than
me, no one seemed to enjoy the inside game that much except for me.
We should have had our own 3 point contest, and then we would have seen
who clanged, Walt.

with it with no major whining about the lack of preparation.
Compared to others in here who had all the time in the world
to prepare and clanged loud enough to be heard at the Gahden...
I'd give it a try though.
Yeah, I forgot how the other team had the skill of basket hanging
down to an art... Even Mr. Gold shorts had a comment on that...

| Enjoyed the gathering last Saturday - was great seeing everybody.
'Specially enjoyed the /Don T-shirt - no argument from me that the
Dukesters are chokesters, I'll tell ya!
Also it was good to talk to Judge McFalse mano-a-mano and get the *true*
story about how MrT was sending cash payments in exchange for a tilted
playing surface during "The Trial". Under the circumstances judge, I
understand why you gave in to temptation, but I only wish you'd followed
my lead and stayed above the corruption. Oh well, all's well that ends
well I suppose.
As to the game, Dan's right about the JoJ/Dan/ACC Chris/Dinz combo.
What a team! No excellent losses for that bunch. Why, with Dinz
running the floor like a spunky Kenny Smith (albiet a KSmith who
struggles with the "lay-in" shot!), JoJ patrolling the baseline like
fellow-Jerseyite Mike O'Koren, Dan doing a (pre-1990 playoffs) Worthy-like
job down low, and me orchestrating the show a-la former Dean_on_the_floor
Brad Hoffman, it was simply No Contest out there!
I wouldn't get too discouraged about Gold Pants 'Saw. Even in games
where offense-calls-the-foul (the defacto standard) it's still a
sporting move to call it when you brutally hack somebody. For example,
player A is coming in for an uncontested lay-up. (To use a real-life
example, let's say it's Kenny Smith against LSU.) Player B (LSU goon)
comes up behind and, in true cheap-shot fashion, nails Kenny as he's
airborn. As we all know, Kenny gets sent into the cheap seats,
breaking his wrist upon ground impact, and we sadly kiss any chance of
a national Title good-bye, despite having one of the greatest teams of
all-time. If memory serves, the LSU guy who did that immediately raised
his hand (in Bill Laimbrain fashion) and acknowledged to one-and-all that
yes, he did commit a foul.
Many :^( faces thinking about *that* particular incident ...

I guess that fact that I left the guy I fouled dazed, confused, and all

| As I said, the magazine, as magazines is not bad. I mean, I fully
expected a blatant, evangelical propaganda rag when I sat down to
peruse it.
It seems well written, and it kind of upbeat in a way that a Carolina
fan would appreciate (I mean, it is *for* Carolina fans).
But, again, for my tastes, there could have been a few more coyly
shot Titles and Acquisitions in there. I mean, a group shot of
the Cheerleaders would have been nice...or some of those awesome
gymnastics shots where unbelieveable manuevers are being attempted.
Or, best yet, how bout a few shot of the female diving team...
But I understand that Dean drives the newspaper and that his scruples
are perhaps a tad more conservative than mine...
I'm gonna get me one a them Duke shirts though 8^)

| Actually, I can't answer that JimWa, Dude.
You see, I was in Germany for a week in '86, and Hogan's wasn't on
the three channels that they have.
In France in 88-89 they didn't show Hogans, either on French, British,
or the one German channel I got.
So, I would say "Nein".
I don't they they show "Sprockets" over there either ;^)
Now, JimWa, take the Scorpions, a most triumphant and excellent
German band. We could have a most excellent time at one of there
concerts dude, then go back stage and ask them if they really do
show Hogan's Heroes reruns in Germany...
Also, dude, we could ask Rainer Forst, who's in this file every once
in a while....
Party on dude!
