Yeah, the vested look is back. All of my old baseball cards have
the Reds in the vested look.
I really don't like the Marlin's colors. It might be that it just shows
up bad on TV, but it doesn't look cool to me.
I like the Red Sox unis, the Yankees unis, Detroit's unis. They are more
like traditional unis, I think.
(Although what's with the horizontal stripes on top of the BoSox
leggings this season?)

I'm probably one of the few who likes the Marlins' teal. I
don't hear any complaints about the Dolphins', Hornets', or Sharks'
uniforms. Their road uniforms are really sharp IMO.
I don't like how so many teams have gone to pinstripes - it's like
every team is suddenly trying to be traditional.

re: Reds
I cain't quite put my finger on it, but these new unis are slightly different
from the ones they had int the sixties. My Pete Rose rookie card has him in
one of those unis.
Now is the Indians and Pirates go back to the vests too...
re: rest
It's cool that the Cards went back to the black hats on the road.
I'm bummed that the Padres went to blue. the original brown was ugly, but
it was a traditional color of the real "Padres" at the missions in Cal.

I don't like the new SD uniforms either. I didn't think the brown and
yellow was all that bad.
I like the fact that some teams like the Yanks, Red Sox, and Dodgers
haven't changed their uniforms much (if at all) over the years.

I still wish the Red Sox hadn't traded in their *really* old-looking
grey road uniforms with simple blue "B-O-S-T-O-N" block lettering for
the ones with the red script lettering, red piping, and-- ugh-- names
on the back. No one could touch those original road uniforms for the
purely archaic look. Those were my favorite. The new road uniforms
are now a bastardized version of the still-classic home uniforms.
The teal helmets the Marlins use at home are the worst. That, more than
the uniform makes them look like a high school team, or even worse,
like the UNC Tarheels. Strictly amateur...

This saddens me. Watching them in those uniforms made me think of the
old days of baseball. All they needed to be was wool and you were

I dunno. I think the teal on the Fla. unis is all right, for it's a new
color in the spectrum for a MLB team. No one's said boo about the
Rockies' purple, although its admittedly more subdued. I always had a
problem with the teams who tried a bit -too- much, i.e. the 80s Astros
with those jerseys that looked like they belonged on a Corn Dog
attendant, and the 80s Chisox jerseys with "SOX" across the chest and
belly. Phew. Whereas pinstripes were supposed to make players look thin
and lean, the horizontal stripes made everyone look flabby.
The return to basic whites and greys with a dash of color in the emblem
and home logos across the left breast are what I really dig. A bit of
dash, and yet pretty traditional.
Vests are beautiful. They make me think of the KC (P)Athletics in the
60s, with a dozen guys named Ozzie Chaverria running all over the
place, not scoring any runs.
New idea for the Colorado uniform:
'Birkenspikes': Open toed spiked shoes with a negative heel,
straps around the insteps.
Socks/Stirrups: Calf-length heavy wool hiking socks, a la LL Bean.
Trousers: Baggy, Knee-length shorts, with extra pockets. Leather
suspenders.
Jersey: Flannel, natch. Heavy blend with breast pockets. Optional
longsleeve undershirt by Helly-Hansen.
Cap: Baseball style, with earflaps.
Build on the concept, if you please.

111.34 | new MLB uniforms in '94 | BALL4::KURAS | Spring hopes eternal | Thu Mar 24 1994 14:48 | 46 |
| Several MLB teams will be introducing new uniforms, or modifications of
last year's model, when the '94 season officially gets underway.
The Texas Rangers will christen their new ball park with new uniforms.
I haven't heard too much about their uniforms. But I understand that
their caps will be red. (hard to believe that in the last 20 years or
so, there have been no teams in the AL who's predominant color is red!)
The Indians were to unveil new uniforms to go with their new ballpark
too, but I haven't heard any details. There was a rumor that they
would drop their red-faced smiling Indian logo on the uniform & hats.
The Astros dropped the sotfball style look that included the wide
rainbow-patch across the shoulders. The new uniforms will be a bit
more traditional, with a new style star on their cap. Hope they drop
the white shoes in favor of black.
The Brewers have copied the Mariners & Rockies. Their caps, like
Colorado, have the initials of both the city & nickname - MB
intertwined in gold (not yellow) block letters. The new color scheme
appears to be similar to the Mariners - navy blue & green.
Speaking of the Rockies, they darkened up the letters on their road
uni's. I think they were silver, lined with purple; and are now
purple.
The Mariners, who came out with new home & road uniforms & home/road
caps last year, will take advantage of the demand for souvenirs by
introducing yet another cap this year. ...don't know the details on
it.
The Cubs will introduce new uniforms this year. The only thing I heard
was that have a new style bear cub on the sleeve. The old one didn't
look mean enough.
And, the SF Giants are turning back the clock to the 50's & 60's
bringing back the style that Mays & McCovey wore. This should include
the fancy block letters (like the Red Sox) to spell out "GIANTS" on the
home uniforms, while the road version spells out "SAN FRANCISCO" in
block letters. The numbers are to be more traditional, squared off,
block numbers, as opposed to the rounded-corner versions of recent
years.
Anyone have more details???

Could be. I've heard nothing since last fall, when the '93 season
