I remember when WASP played "Scream until you like it" on our British

of RICK(DICKHEAD) ASTLEY, 5STAR, TIFFINY (I'll never forgive you

It was funny - there was old Blackie Lawless and Randy Piper bangin'
there heads away, whilst all the little teeny boppers wheren't sure

341.7 | W.A.S.P., DON'T f*** w/ them! | BTO::PORTERC | | Thu Nov 17 1988 12:17 | 58 |
|
FIRST, i'll tell you guys all about one of the best
shows i have ever seen.... it took place in Columbus,Ohio at a night
club(bar) called THE NEWPORT. heading the ticket, of course, was
W.A.S.P. with opening acts SLAYER and RAVEN. what a night, massive
thrashing and unbelievable energy. i was in the 2nd or 3rd row,
depending on the crowd movement. RAVEN came out first to get everyone
started up.... a few brawls broke out, no big deal... then, on comes
SLAYER and the crowd of metal heads rush the stage. heavy duty head
banging was in order and of course everyone joined in, even the
non-thrashers... SLAYER did an incredible show which isn't too hard
to believe but of course W.A.S.P. would end it with a bigger boom.
so, the lights dimmed as W.A.S.P. was about to come
out. as the beginning of the song "inside the electric circus" started
a circus tent type curtain raised up revealing 4 barber shop pointed
poles with 3 foot diameter heads of the band memebers of w.a.s.p.
impaled on them with blood dripping from their decapitated heads....
the intro. of inside the elec. circus was in full swing
'welcome to the electric circus'
'the music is your passport'
'your key to unlocking all the doors that await you'
'feel the energy, and the frezie'
'and see all the unusual animals'
'and the animals, well their something else.....'
then, the band members come out and blackie lawless, who now plays
the six string wails out those first few chords at full decible...
(formerly bass player). the show continues on with all their best
tunes...no dought it was really rocken. they played "Texas" but
changed the words aroud to 'gimme an "O" for Ohio' proceeded
with afew numbers of their new album, did L.O.V.E.machine and all
the rest of their greatest tunes...
the highlight of the show, for me had to be this one
certain instance. A totally drucken ***hole was right up front with
the rest of us head bangers, but instead of cheering them on, he
was flipping Blackie the finger and calling the band members every
name in the book!! seeing how Johnny Rod (BASS PLAYER) was situated
dirrectly in front of this this guy, Johnny was starting to get
a little tee'd of at the show this stupid mother f***er was putting
on. of course , by now BLACKIE was aware of this wise guy...
so, Johnny Rod signalling Blackie for the o.k. to shut this guy
up, received a little nodd from BLackie, saying more less GO AHEAD!
Johnny, with his snake skin cowboy boots moves towards the edge
of the stage a boots this guy right in the face nocking him totally
unconscience.. the boncers moved in promply and removed the a**
from the club. i thought it was great, the funniest thing i've ever
seen a band member do at a show.....
well, the show continued with good spirits and at the
final encore(don't remember what song it was) a ton of chicken feathers
was dropped on the band and croud from above.... everyone their
walked out looking like they just got tared and feathered.....
HOWS THAT FOR A SHOW!!
i enjoyed it!

The Album is "Headless Children" sheeeesh!
A review from Circus Mag. 1989 Feb edition,Copy w/out Permission
Blackie Lawless' Cartoon overkill policies may turn many a critic's
stomach, but alot of good music gets lost in the hype. Now W.A.S.P.'s
Lyrics sound as if they were listening to too many METALLICA albums.
they tackle subjects like war,(the title cut),cocaine addiction
(Thunderhead), alienation ("THE REAL ME") and a host of other socially
relevant subjects. But put all preconceived spinal tapism aside.
THIS LP HAS MORE THAN ITS SHARE OF GREAT TUNES. NOT ORIGINAL
BY A LONG,BUT GOOD FUN NONETHELESS.

They kick total ass! I'm listening to "Mean Man" right now but it
won't make radio as it is. (lyrics are f!@# this and f!@# that and
f!@# the other etc..). "For whom the bell tolls" and
"Locomotive(something)" are also cool.

W.A.S.P is still an 'entity' (his words), but this is something
he's 'wanted to do for a long time' ...

Blackie Lawless is currently writing and preparing material for his
solo album - he says he already has two albums worth of material
written.
"It's going to be very interesting and is going to surprise a few
people".
Informative, ain't he?!?!
He has to do a solo album as part of a contractual obligation built in
to the one signed with Capitol.
Blackie has not confirmed whether Chris Holmes has left the band but
says,"W.A.S.P. still has one more album to do in order to fulfill our
recording contract."
As well as making records, he also has sights on making political
headlines! Honest! "I can really see myself becoming involved with
politics, even seriously thinking about becoming a US Senator.'

Rumor has it W.A.S.P. has broken up. I thought I remembered
Blackie Lawless denying that by saying he was going to do a

Now I just read in Circus Magazine that their drummer (don't

| an example. Heavy Metal is big business, and this is how you migrate
from the lead singer in the band to the big star in terms of publicity.
You don't have to do it this way, but the transition name keeps the
band name in front of the public long enough to learn who the star is,
so to speak, and is useful if the star doesn't have the name reconition
that the band does.
Another example I can think of , offhand, not heavy metal but music
business nonetheless is Herb Albert.
First it was the Tijuana Brass, the Herb Albert and the Tijuana Brass,
then just Herb Albert.
Heavy Metal isn't on a rock in the ocean, it's just a name applied by
marketing types for easier digestion into the mainstream of america:
Money Making. Another thing tha's wierd is how every 4 years a new
class of children discover music, they think it's so different than
the last 4 years ( of course you all are too broad minded to be like
this, so let's say the New Kids up the Crock fans, for example ) and
it's never been done before.
Makes ya wanna bang yer head into a wall and just say 'more beer'!

| I have to agree on that 4 year thing. I have seen it in this
conference here. Ask some of these people in here about groups in the
60's and they act like what does the 60's have to do with the 90's. Of
course I guess poeple in the 60's and 70's said what does music from
the 50's have to due with music now. In actuallity though music is a
steady progression, where you will here some things that have been
around forever with some new innovative ideas which to those who haven't
heard the old things before think it is completly fresh and new. I
guess none of it really matters though as long as you can keep your
mind open to new things and enjoy them.

| I recently bought the new promo pack from W.A.S.P. (Blackie Lawless)
as an import from the U.K.. It looks like Blackie went for more of the
older W.A.S.P. stuff because the songs are relentless!!!
It's called The Charlie Chainsaw W.A.S.P. pack! It came with
2 new song and a 9 minute story.
The new songs are called:
Murders In The New Morgue (Much better than any other Rue Morgue song)
8)
Phatom in the mirror
and the 9 minute story called The Story Of Johnathon.
I think the new W.A.S.P album is going to be a CONCEPT album about this
kid. The story is VERY intense and seems almost like an bio for
Blackie. From what I understand the album is going to be called
CRIMSON IDOL.

Subject: The Crimson Idol - a little about it

Ok - Here is some stuff about The Crimson Idol...
Credits (from the CD booklet)
Blackie Lawless: Lead vocal, lead, rhythm and bass guitars, keyboards
Stet Howland, Frankie Banali: Drums
Bob Kulick: Lead guitar
The album itself is just under 1 hour long, with 10 tracks. These are:
1. The Titanic Overture (3:23)
2. The Invisible Boy (4:04)
3. Arena Of Pleasure (4:06)
4. Chainsaw Charlie (Murders in the New Morgue) (7:36)
5. The Gypsy meets the Boy (4:08)
6. Docter Rockter (3:43)
7. I Am One (4:27)
8. The Idol (5:20)
9. Hold on to my Heart (4:14)
10. The Great Misconceptions of Me (9:29)
The story tells of a boy who feels trapped and unloved by his family. His
older brother seems to be the 'golden boy' who can do no wrong, while all
he himself (his name is Jonathon) seems to get is scorn and beatings.
He calls himself the 'Invisible Boy' and begins to spend time searching for
some answer in front of the mirror. The story in the inlay describes this
much better than I can here...
His brother is killed in a hit-and-run accident when Jonathon is 14, and this
brings more pressure to bear in the family. He seeks escape in drink, drugs
and, latterly, music. He sees a guitar in a shop window while drunk, and he
knows that music is something he could do...
He runs away to the city (the 'Arena Of Pleasure') and there meets a
businessman called Charlie, who works in the record industry. Jonathon plays
guitar and Charlie gives him his break, and introduces him to an up-and-coming
manager called Alex Rodman.
Jonathon starts to make it big and his life gets more and more out of control
until one day Alex says to him he'd better sort his life out or he (Alex)
will drop him. Jonathon realises that the only reason anyone has stuck by him
is because he's rich and famous, and naturally enough feels somewhat shattered
by this.
He calls home, hoping to patch up the rift between himself and his parents
but they basically disown him, and the story ends there, with him knowing
that the one thing he wanted most of all - to be a success in the eyes of his
parents - will never happen.
All this is narrated over 3 pages in the booklet, and also in the lyrics of
the songs. The last song is a sort of summing up. There are also little
snatches of story laid over acoustic guitar between the songs.
Lastly, I am thinking of typing up the lyrics for cs.uwp.edu - it will very
likely be a few days before I do so though - coursework to do as well :-(
