| For your Unplugged group, you NEED to do "Uncle John's Band", from
Workingman's Dead (Grateful Dead, of course...) - one of the greats,
and, of course, anything by Crosby, Stills, and Nash.
If they're starting out, which is what I think you're asking, do they
mind doing old standards, like "Red River Valley", or do they need new
stuff?

| "She's So Heavy"? Yeah, uh huh. :)
What about:
Alice's Resturant Arlo Guthrie
Fire and Rain James Taylor
Country Road James Taylor
Behind Blue Eyes The Who
Like A Rolling Stone Bob Dylan
Sweet Homes Alabama Lynard Skynard (done slow and bluesy, works
great)
It's on Pink Floyd's "The Wall", the side with Comfortably Numb and it starts
out with "I've got a little black book, with my poems in it", don't know the
title

Interesting how many lame '70s songs have been pop metal (for want
of a better term) hits. Smoking in the Boys Room, etc...

Let's not even get into how LAME things got in the 70's. And, thank you,
"LAME" is the perfect word for it. Sorry for singling out signs. maybe
if it hadn't irritated me SOOO MUCH when it was first done, Tesla
wouldn't bother me so much now. It just hits a raw nerve with me.
Think of it, somebody made a lot of money writing the lyrics to that
song!
Sorry fro ranting, we should really get back to campfire songs...

is a cool acoustic tune by them. Here's some more:
24 Hours At A Time - Marshall Tuckers (medicated pads...)
Fire On The Mountain - Marshall Tucker
Feel Like Makin Love - Bad Co.
Shooting Star - Bad Co.
Fade To Black - Metallica (I'm serious !!! - Great acoustic tune !)
Little Suzy - Tesla (Hot damn!)
More Than Words - Extreme (Another goodie from a metal band)
Tear In My Beer - Hank Williams
Stairway - Zeppelin
Over The Hills And Far Away - Zeppelin
Take It Easy - Eagles
Peaceful Sleazy Feelin' - Eagles
Already Gone - Eagles (Eagles are a BLAST to play acoustic)
Goin' To California - Zeppelin
Old Man - Neil Young
Sugar Mountain - Neil Young
Out Of The Black (and Into The Blue) - Neil Young (the acoustic one on
side 2)
Anything by James Taylor (Gotta love this guys live show)
Ripple - Grateful Dead
St. Steven - Grateful Dead
jc (Who'll do more acoustic stuff when Greg finishes my acoustic - hint;)

Careful. Remember that scene in Animal House where the guy is singing
and playing his guitar on the stairs and Belushi comes along? You don't
want anything like that to happen.
Better through in "Dang Me" by Roger Miller

Have I missed the point of a 'campfire song' here?
Surely the object of such stuff is for everyone to have a good time and
hopefully sing along at least with the chorus. On this basis 90% of the
songs listed thus far would fail dismally as campfire songs.
As far as non traditional songs go, a rule of thumb would be that a
prerequisite has to be that its been in the charts (not ALWAYS the case
though, eg Beatles stuff).
So, for instance, I happen to think Creedence Clearwater Revival stuff
translates very well to acoustic. My favourites on acoustic are Lodi
and Who'll Stop the Rain. However, here in the UK they would fail as
campfire songs. The only CCR songs that would be worth considering
would be Proud Mary and Bad Moon Rising.

When I bought my Guild a coupla weeks ago the next stop was
a big David Bowie fake book and copies of Spacce Oddity and
Hunky Dorey. Try out "Cygnet Committee", "Soul Love" or
"Hang onto yourself"
Then on to some Neil Young. And then Jethro Tull. And then...
Anybody got a full arrangement for Donovan's "Atlantis"?
Speaking of the `70s - I've listened to "Search and Destroy"
from the Stooges' Raw Power album about 10 times in the last
24 hours. The `70s had the very best music. That NY Dolls CD
has been clawing to get out of it's case. And Flaming Groovies'
"Shake Some Action" gets played at least 2ce a week at my house.

There are exceptions to everything. Those wouldn't necessarily
be mine, though. ..

In that case, "Row, Row, Row your Boat" can't miss, especially if you're in the

BLUE EYES CRYING IN THE RAIN (Willie Nelson) (chords C,G & F)
In the twilight glow I see,
blue eyes crying in the rain.
When we kissed good bye and parted,
I knew we'd never meet again.
Love is like a dying ember,
and only memories remain.
And through the ages I'll remember,
blue eyes crying in the rain.
PLAY MELODY
Someday when we meet up yonder,
we'll stroll hand in hand again.
In the land that knows no party,
blue eyes crying in the rain.
