5206.0. "golf in Nashua ?" by WOTVAX::16.194.208.3::warder.reo.dec.com::sharkeya (Who am I now ?) Tue Mar 25 1997 20:28

In April I may well be over in Nashua for a week. What is the weather like
and are there golf courses around there (if so, anyone fancy a game?)

    You might want to ask this in the VMSZOO::NEW_HAMPSHIRE notesfile.

    Early April might be tough, late April is certainly possible.

Alan,

You'll get a better response and info on southern N.H. courses in
FUNIES::GOLF, but as far as conditions, we still have some snow in the
ground, but is starting to warm up, so depending when in April you plan
to be here, where you'll find an open course.

As we speak, we drove one hour south from Maynard to play last weekend,
so that is about 2 hours from Nashua.

Bring several layers of thin but warm clothing, so you can put them on
or take them off as the temp changes. It is currently still in the 40's
F (around 5 C).

And sure, we'll fancy a game.
5206.3WMOIS::GIROUARD_CWed Mar 26 1997 08:4714
    Prior to this recent snow the Amherst CC had the front 9 holes open.
    This course is a 10 minute from the NQO facility and maybe a 30 minute
    drive from ZKO.

    The snow is just about gone now and the temperatures seem to be edging
    into the moderate zone.

    Unless we're surprised by snow or an inordinate amount of precipitation
    my guess would be the chances will be good for a round.

    Good Luck!

5206.4Shall we take this off line ?WOTVAX::16.194.208.3::warder.reo.dec.com::sharkeyaWho am I now ?Wed Mar 26 1997 14:5910
I get 'no such file' from FUNIES::GOLF.

Other than that, if anyone can assist me in finding the courses (weekend
before and after 14th April), and fancies a game, send me mail
(Alan Sharkey@EOL)

thanks for the help

Sorry about that, it used to be in FUNIES and was moved to HUMANE a couple
of months back.

Again, you'll find the info you're looking there.
5206.7Sky MeadowSWAM1::EBERT_VAWed Mar 26 1997 19:2710
    Sky Meadow Golf Coure just off of Route 3 (exit 1) -- almost across the
    street from ZKO. This is an amazing course. I used to live on it, but
    am now in California. Don't know if it is open to the public or for
    that matter open for the season.

    It's a little expensive...but worth it.

    Cheers,

5206.8Overlook, Shaker HillsFOUNDR::MANSORThu Mar 27 1997 16:259
      Another possibility is "Overlook" a couple exits north. Just get off
    on Exit 5 and head west for a couple of miles. It's on your right.
      It's a nice course with alot of doglegs and you'll enjoy it. I would
    agree with the previous note that Sky Meadow's the place to play, but
    I'm not sure if the public can still play there.
      Another beauty is Shaker Hills in Harvard, MA. It's about 20 minutes
    south of where you'll be, but well worth the ride. A public course with
    a country club atmosphere, but also expensive.

Thanks for those - I'd prefer 'cheap and cheerful' courses; my budget is
limited (working for DEC !)

    Green Medows in Hudson is close to the ZKO facility in Nashua.
    There are two 18-hole courses ... Which facility are you
    visiting .. If it is ZKO, give me a call when you arrive
    and I'll give you directions. dial 1-2063
    These courses are as affordable as you're going to find and
    the conditions should be OK considering the time of year.

>Sky Meadow is private and $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

I think Sky Meadow is semi-private. Members get first shot
a tee times. Nonmembers can take what's left. Also, unless
you are a single hncp player, bring lots of old balls. Some
holes are tight and have lots of water. Balls off the fairway
are easilly lost.

It is also expensive, plan to spend $50 to $60 to play there.
5206.12Any footwear restrictions ?WOTVAX::16.194.208.3::warder.reo.dec.com::sharkeyaWho am I now ?Fri Mar 28 1997 16:319
Thanks - I'll call you. I'm somewhere near ZKO - the hotel is the 'Crown
Plaza' I think.

Do your courses have restrictions on footware such as softspikes ?

    Don't worry about footwear ... at this very moment
    snow shoes would be appropriate ... chances are when you
    play in April the snow will be gone but it'll be very
    muddy.
