3488.0. "MKO2->Microsoft Rumor?" by TOOK::DELBALSO (I (spade) my (dog face)) Fri Nov 04 1994 02:57

Couldn't find anything via DIR/TITL=MK 2000-L -

What, if anything, are the details regarding the "rumored" acquisition of
MKO2 by Microsoft?

Or, has this been censored already?

If it's been censored, it was done so well that the note never got entered
in the first place. First I've heard of such a rumor. It also seems
unlikely - Microsoft likes to keep everything in Redmond.

I heard that rumor...

I also heard that Oracle was buying MK02.

Frankly, I don't believe either one.  (But I won't mind if I'm wrong :-)
3488.5RUMOURS! (WITH SOME TRUTH...)SOLVIT::CARLTONFri Nov 04 1994 16:1711
    Amazing rumours here... actually what's true is that MKO2 is being put
    on the block (what isn't, these days...). Realtor and business/broker
    and technician/types have been looking over the property while
    Facilities prepares plans to vacate it and sell, lease, or at least
    mothball it... I've heard the asking price is @ $15M. Most folks will
    be squeezed into MKO1. I'd expect MKO2 to be void of any substantial
    number of digital employees by the end of this FY (June). And we just
    opened the new access road to the new Camp Sargent Rd. bypass a few
    weeks ago...!

An attractive selling point, no doubt.

3488.7where will we go?NRSTA1::HORGANTim HorganFri Nov 04 1994 18:145
    ...and we've heard that when Digital moves out of MRO3 (yes, 03) our
    possible new homes (or for those that are still here) would be MKO or
    MSO. Sounds like our options may be dwindling. Bummer.

        Tim,

        Didn't we just move *out* of MSO?

    The Mill is MLO.

    MSO is Powder Mill Road.

        Correct, and PKO is Parker street.

        (As far as I can tell by a "parking lot inspection", MLO has
        plenty of space available, probably suitably configured for
        computer systems engineering and services :-}, whereas MSO I
        think is full or at least committed. MSO2 is the building
        our group just moved out of into MRO3.)

    My point may have been a misinterpretation of the following, which I
    interpreted as you asking if we [Digital] didn't just move out of
    the Mill. It *looked* like you took MSO to be the mill. (On
    re-reading, I can come up with alternate interpretations...)

3488.13Get the rumor straight!LOCH::SOJDAWed Nov 09 1994 17:517
    No, No -- its not MKO, its supposed to be BTO...

    Last summer there was a rumor, supposedly corroborated by someone in
    the VT Dept. of Labor, that Microsoft was interested in acquiring the
    former Burlington plant as a distribution center.

    Of course, this never materialized and BTO still stands empty.
3488.14latest rumor about MKO2MKOTS3::DIONNETue Jan 31 1995 16:146
    well, I was told last week by someone who is located in MKO2 that
    their group was told they would be moving in the next couple of
    months, over to MKO1 because the final sale papers had been signed
    the previous day. The buyer was either AT&T or Nynex.

    Think there's even the tiniest truth to this?
3488.15MKO2 is definitely closingEPS::PULIAFICOJohn - alias jp - MKO2 2/J4 - dtn 264-0547Mon Feb 13 1995 17:226
	We just received the official word. MKO2 will be vacated by the end of
Q4 FY95. Employees are to be moved to MKO1 and ZKO. The memo states the
reason is "to reduce infrastructure cost and improve space utilization". No
mention of a sale to anyone. Of course, that doesn't mean anything.
