Hi all, a customer of mine has a problem with rules based on IP Reachability (comparision rules). On nodes very slow he gets an IP Reachability down response while the UCX Ping gets the node alive. He has tried to modify the retries and timeout of ICMP but without success. Using the IP Poller, instead, all works fine. The status of SNMP entities is more realiable. The questions are: "Which is the difference betweeen these two methods ?" and "Is the IP Poller based on change_of rule ?" (The SMNP manual is not very clear about this). Thanks for your attention Regards Fabio

The IP Poller does not use the Alarms FM at all. It pings the nodes directly and feeds in the events to the SNMP AM, which in turn, feeds it to notification. I do not know why the alarming on the IP Reachability attribute does not work for you. But, the IP Poller being the preferred way of determining node reachability, you might as well use it instead. It is also faster and uses a lot less resources. Rahul. |
