Should have happened by Thanksgiving past. Well, the only
rumor I've heard about a replacement is either Poulin or
Cashman will be taking over. The only place I've heard the
Parker rumor is here at work and we all know how reliable
the rumors in this place are....ie:Bourque player/coach;-)

They were talking with Parker last night on the news and he said
that ANY college coach would be foolish to not entertain an offer from
them, they are after all the Boston Bruins. That to me, sounded
suspiciously like a hat being thrown into the ring. I hadn't heard the
Poulin and/or Cashman rumor but I don't think that that would be all
    that bad either.

I like to say that I would like Taz back BUT- 1. Is he willing to come
back ? I don't recall him making himself available last year. 2. He
actually couldn't take it when he was coach before.. He had a hard time
with the management side of the coin since he was a player
through and through. He was very effect team leader and was a great
motivator. I think he has mellowed since then and I still don't think
he likes dealing with the politics of management. So I don't think he
is a good long term coaching choice to help them come back.

170.16how 'bout Derek?FABSIX::S_CHRISTIANTue Apr 22 1997 04:412
    bring back Sutter!!

170.17Nope, not Derek or BrianDIVER1::MACHADOCrazy on a ship of foolsTue Apr 22 1997 11:4020
Derek has a lot of things going against him for him to be
considered. First off, he does know the game, but he's proven in the
past to be kinda unstable in times when cooler heads are needed. Sure,
he's probably grown up, but add to that, that traditionally the coach
takes to the ice at practice with the players for drills etc. and you
can see where this might be a problem. If Derek were to fall, he'd be
back in surgery in a heartbeat getting those artificial hips replaced
yet again. Getting back to the real downfall though, I could easily
picture him winging a water bottle or worse at a ref when he thought
that the B's didn't get a call at a crucial point during a game.

As for Sutter, let me ask you this. If you were fired because your
manager said that you weren't getting the job done, and then in two
years he/she wanted to hire you back because your replacement turned
out to be a total twit, would you return? I'd be inclined to politely
turn down such an offer. Then again, it's a moot point because Harry
would be WAY too proud to ask Brian back.

The Mtl press has already 'decided' that it'll be Robbie Ftorek (home

Mario Tremblay said he wouldn't mind coaching another NHL team. The
reporters believe that this means Mario may know of a possible opening
as an asst coach. Lemaire would take him in a second (remember, he had
Chris Nilan last year as asst coach) and Robinson is another
    possibility.

We'll know more after the playoffs I guess. Til then, the Mtl media has
decided to crucify Ronald Corey (Habs Prez). I guess they like to go at

in the Fleece Center yesterday for a visit with Sinden and O'Connell.
I doubt that anything will ever come of that. Sinden would have to be a

I can't believe that the Bruins announced their offer to Parker.
They should have kept it quiet. Unless of course they were trying to

Not quite "knee jerk". That's what I thought BEFORE Parker rejected
the offer. But I thought the Bruins were so sure that Parker would
accept that they went ahead with the announcement. By the way, I've
since heard or read the same comments in the press and electronic
    media.

Keenan's comments on Dave Hodge's "That's Hockey" show were quite
interesting. Keenan has been doing commentary with Hodge since the
playoffs began. Apparently Keenan and his agent had proposed something
to the Bruins. The Bruins then made an offer for more money but
less years (Keenan wanted a 5 year deal). Keenan was pondering the deal
when it was announced that the Bruins had made an offer to Parker. He
said that he thought he deserved more respect than that from Sinden. I
wonder what Harry would have done if both had accepted. Sinden
probably forgot about the first offer.

So what's the difference between a coach walking into the Gummy Bears

Bernie - the B's made Parker an excellent offer (according to Parker on
WEEI Radio) he decided (for the 2nd time) not to take the offer. Harry
admitted that it was a gamble announcing the offer, but explained that
the fans/media wanted to know ASAP.

I believe they did it because they wanted to ride the Pitino wave. It was
a gamble that did not pan out. I'm glad that Keenan isn't on the list....
    so booh to his feelings.

There's talk (started by the media) that Swillturkey is the answer, I hope

re -1 I agree, the B's probably wanted to ride that college-coach-

think Parker is/was ready for the big league - not from a player/coach

    So much for Nolan...

It came down to him or Muckler and Muckler is out.

Muckler might be gone but the Buffalo situation is still in the air.
There's still the Hasek - Nolan conflict to be resolved and the new GM
might want to bring his own people. So Nolan is still available
although he is under contract with Buffalo until June 30th.

B's are talking to Pat Burns now. Also, said they will
    draft Joe Thornton.

    Have a good weekend!

170.58Maybe Burns it is!ASDG::MCNAMARAstrange visitor......Wed May 21 1997 11:5316
...OK, hope this one don't fizzle.....all the local stations are
reporting that Pat Burns its is...Burns met again with Management, then
promptly cancelled an interview with Rejean Houle (sp?)....did I spell
that right?? what a friggin' name, eh?

anyway, this would suit mac to a "T"....disciplinarian, good skills,
good track record....other thoughts? Can he work with Harry & Mike
    without killin' them both??

    I like it. 'cuz I got a cousin that's a dead-ringer for
    Burns...hmmmmmm.....I see possibilities in this.....

170.59I'd rather see Sinden talk to Ducks CoachKOOLIT::R_PLOURDEWed May 21 1997 12:4415

What about Ron Wilson... He just became available from the Ducks!

I think he's a great coach. Had alot of success with young talent.
All we'd have to do is get him the talent 8*)

I'd rather see him in beantown than Burns! Burns to me has a sour-puss
he was always aggrivating to watch behind the Montreal bench.

If the talks are as far along with Burns as the media makes it sound,
even if Harry would want to talk to Wilson he may not only because
of the fear of flubbin up another potential coach.

....I dunno there Rp...I've always liked that "sour puss" attitude that
Burns had....beats the hell outta the "puss" on the B's last coach
    (what wuz his name? jeez.....)

    :^)

Always remember the story Burns tells about how his Grand-Daddy bought
him a Bruins jersey (Bucyk's #9), and how the Montreal kids used to
get into fights with him....Burns credits that with making him the
tough sonavabitch that he is....also says he LOVES Boston's Irish
    hertitage, etc......

    PLEASE come to Boston, Pat.....

I could handle having Burns behind the bench. Look at it this way,
after having Kasper for the last two years getting Fred Creighton or
Bep Guidolin would be a step up. 8-)

Seriously, I like Burns' no nonsense attitude. Given some talent I
think he could take this club back to respectability.

For a young team, the best candidate IMHO is Ted Nolan.

He's a free agent come June30th but w/ the Sabre owners already firing
Muckler I doubt he'll be available then.

I think Burns is a good choice. He spent many years, coaching
in the lower ranks and juniors. Before he got his chance in Montreal.
So he has the experience in terms of coaching young players, as well
    as older players.
