2289.0. "Ultra II, NT4.0, EPM problems" by NZOV02::GUTHREYCHRIS () Mon Jan 27 1997 20:40

    Hi All,

    I am having a couple of problems with the Digital NT4 drivers for the
    Hinote Ultra II.

    1) EPM - the power management thinks that the batterry is 100%
    charged, and that the laptop is plugged into external power supply
    regardless of what the actuall battery charge (as shown on the lcd
    panel) is, or if oit it is really being run on battery.

    I have tried re-installing the EPM drivers, but no luck.

    2) PCMCIA Modem interference. I am using a Moterola Montana modem. If
    I am running the laptop on battery, any dialup networking connections
    over the modem work fine. When I plug in the external power supply,
    the Dialup networking monitor reports bad CRC Frames or just slows
    right down to 5 seconds delays betwwen each recieve/transfer of data.
    Unplug the power - the connection begins working again.

    I am running NT4.0 Workstation, SP1

    Firstly, can anyone advise me on how to UNINSTALL the EPM, as I need
    modem functionality more than I need Power Management.

    Regards,
    Chris

2289.1How to report the problem?NZOV02::GUTHREYCHRISFri Jan 31 1997 22:129
    No luck on this one so far...

    I'd like to report the problem to the group that developed the NT40
    drivers for the HiNote Ultra II. Can anyone advise me on what the
    proper procedure and channels for doing that is?

    Thanks,
    Chris Guthrey

Hi,

I discovered that the EPM installation puts a modified NTDETECT.COM
into the root directoy of the partition on which NT is installed,
instead of the root directory of the C: partition. On my system, I
have NT installed on a 1GB NTFS partition, with a 250MB FAT partition
for DOS and Windows 95, NT DETECT ended up on the NTFS partition.

Just copy the NTDETECT.COM from wherever it is to C:\, and boot your
PC, you should then be fine.

Also, watch out if you install SP2, you need to re-install all the
Ultra II extras, BEFORE you reboot your PC, or it may not boot. This
includes re-copying the NTDETECT.COM. I didn't have the problem,
but a colleague did.
