4242.0. "Preferred Converters?/Keypak and CDA?" by SCAMIN::BROWN (Gotta keep moving..... on.) Wed Jun 08 1994 21:30

    Hello,

Can anyone please tell me the *preferred* converter product to use with
    ALL-IN-1 when adding TeamLinks clients?

I have a customer using the Keypak converters, which are having
problems with the format WPCORP (which is what Word Perfect for
Windows) tags the file as. Keypak can convert WO files fine, but
not the files with WPCORP as the handling. Is anyone else out there
experiencing this problem? Also, one of my customers was told that
Keyword is going out of business.... news to me. ALL-IN-1 V3.0A (using
WPS-PLUS) TeamLinks for Windows V2.0, Word Perfect for Windows V5.2.

As far as the CDA converters, I've heard through the Digital grapevine
that this product set may be retiring. I've also had customers
    complain about the conversion quality.

Or is there another option? Selling TeamLinks into my ALL-IN-1
installed base is the easy part - the converters always seem to be an
issue. Or maybe I'm just missing something....

    help is ALWAYS appreciated,

    Jackie,

you really need to ask Product Management this one but I think the
answer is that Keypak is the preferred converter set. If you have a
tagging problem then you should really try and figure out of there's
a workaround either by asking in the TeamlInks conference or logging
a call with the nice people at the CSC.

4242.2working with CSC, Keypak sending filesSCAMIN::BROWNGotta keep moving..... on.Thu Jun 09 1994 20:2810
    Andrew,

I have been working with the great people at the CSC - thank you Debbie
and Beth! Keypak is supposed to send some files so that they can
recognize the WPCORP handling type. They should arrive tomorrow, and I
will post my progress here and let folks know if it works.

    thanks again,

4242.3KEYpak is currently preferredIOSG::HOLTDDave HoltFri Jun 10 1994 16:5412
Jackie,

KEYpak are currently the preferred converters - we were hoping to bundle crucial
ones with V3.1 ALL-IN-1 but it hasn't happened, however we have included the
integration 'hooks'. The KEYpak package will be available after we ship and we
may include a bingo card with the kit so that customers can order them sharp.

We are bundling though ten CDA converters on VAX and AXP that will do some form
of job for you although WINWORD native is not amongst them.

Dave Holt, ALL-IN-1 Product Management

Does the system have FORMAT master entries for 'WO' and 'WPCORP', and what
are they set to? If so, then the system is using two FORMAT master entries
for the same type of files.

'WO' is the Mnemonic name KEYpak uses for WordPerfect files, and if
KEYpak+1 has been installed on the system a FORMAT master entry called 'WO'
will have been created.

It's probable that setting 'WPCORP' entry to be like the 'WO' entry will
allow KEYpak to be used for 'WPCORP' documents.

4242.5tried it - still does not worksSCAMIN::BROWNGotta keep moving..... on.Wed Jun 15 1994 22:4511
Richard,

I looked at the FORMAT masters and did just what you said - changed the WPCORP to
look just like the WO record and it still did not work. The customer should
have received the files from Keyword today (sigh) and I'm waiting on the word....

It is puzzling to me why the above did not work....

thanks,

I'm fighting this battle as well in a very similar environment (but add
MicroSoft Word for Windows). KEYpak expects the handling of MWW but
TeamLinks tags them as WINWORD2. I am working with the KEYpak support
folks to try to resolve this issue. Apparently, there are some sort of
post-installation steps you can take with the newest version of KP1 to
make KEYpak automatically change TeamLinks' names to KEYpak's, but it
seems to need write access to shared message files (ugly). I hope we
can work out the nits. I'll post what I find out.
