3713.0. "upgrade v2.4 starter - v3.0 problem" by LISVAX::SEPULVEDA (The Sunshine People) Thu Dec 30 1993 20:21

    	Hi All,

One of our customers is having problems upgrading from:

    	ALL-IN-1 Starter v2.4 (Portuguese) to Full ALL-IN-1 v3.0 (PT)

    	He has VMS v5.4-2
He has tried the upgrade on another machine and it was fine.

    	Now, on this machine:
1st he had problems with images. They where installed on the right
place and the 2nd upgrade passed everything...

However, after the message - moving files...

    	There is this error message:

    	ERROR OPENING DKB0:[ALLIN!.LIB_SHARE]CM_FDL_UPDATE_KEYFILE.SCP
AS OUTPUT - FILE CREATE FAILED - ALLOC.FAILURE ON DIR FILE

    	CHECK VMIDEFFER_ERROR.DAT

    	The installation has failed...

He checked the VMI*.DAT file and it has:

    	MOVE-FILE A1$ DKB0:[ALLIN!.LIB_SHARE]CM_FDL_UPDATE_KEYFILE.SCP K

    	And nothing else.

He has enought disk space and no diskquota...

    	Any suggestions???

Thank you all very much for you help.
HAPPY NEW YEAR to ALL !!!
    	Best Regards
    	Ana

    Ana,

this is a standard VMS message which you can find in the VMS doc set

       DIRALLOC
          directory allocation failure
            Facility: SYSTEM, VMS System Services

Explanation: The file system failed to allocate space to
increase the size of a directory file. Because directory files
must be contiguous, the error might be caused by the disk
being full. More likely, there is not enough contiguous space
on the disk for the directory, so the free disk space is
            being fragmented.

If this occurs, it is recommend that an image backup and restore be
performed on the disk to reorganize the free disk space.

    Regards,
