3467.0. "international use of US version" by ULYSSE::GEERDES (Ben Geerdes) Thu Oct 28 1993 19:31

Customer will install an US version (2.4) in the UK.

People from the UK, Germany and France will be using this system.

North American, French and German dictionaries are required.

Remote people will be using terminal emulators from DOS (SETHOST)
	and Windows (Reflections).

The keyboards used will all be QWERTY 101 keyboards.

	The issues:

People need to be able to create, read and print
WPSPLUS documents and be able to address people
in the three different languages involved.
It should be possible to generate all characters that are part
of the language and to print them.

Are there any problems in doing this?

What are possible problems and how can they be solved?

Is the COMPOSE utility in Windows a possibility?

Are local language versions of emulators required?

Will there be a need to switch to different character sets?

Any information on this is appreciated.

	Thanks

		Ben

>> Are there any problems in doing this?

You need to check whether US + French + German is a supported combination of
languages. I can never remember which document gives this information. If it's
supported, then it should all work fine from an ALL-IN-1 point of view.

>> Is the COMPOSE utility in Windows a possibility?

Depends on the terminal emulator. Sorry, I'm not familiar with Reflections.

>> Are local language versions of emulators required?

If the emulators support DEC MCS characters, there should be no problems here.
If they don't, then you're in trouble: all the characters are generated at the
ALL-IN-1 end; the emulator either displays them or it doesn't, there shouldn't
need to be any messing with switching character sets at the PC end.

3467.2Language combination OK technically...IOSG::PYEGraham - ALL-IN-1 Sorcerer's ApprenticeTue Nov 02 1993 13:045
US + French + German is *technically* supported, but I don't know if
the pilot of supporting other languages in the US that Atlanta ran made
it into real life. I expect ADW will tell us shortly.

3467.3Ah but the customer is in the U.KAIMTEC::WICKS_AU.S.A 2 England 0 - I was there!Tue Nov 02 1993 19:329
    GAP,

I don't think what happens in the U.S is relevant in this case since
Ben's customer is in the U.K so i'd suggest asking Jill Houlding what
the state of multilingual support is there.
