ALL-IN-1 3.0-1, VMS 5.5-2 This is a 3-node cluster. When trying to do IAD, and leaving the system field blank, it takes a very long time for anything to be returned. There are 2700 users on the system. Of course when IAD is done in the MANAGER account, it just flys and returns all 2815 drawers in seconds. is this taking a long time for the users because of the size of the userbase? are there nything system parameters that i should have the VMS people look at to adjust. its been 10 minutes now that the IAD has been processing and nothing has been displayed yet. if this is "normal" that's ok, so long as i can give the customer an answer. thanks - ann

Ann, I think what you are seeing is "normal". When a regular user uses IAD to determine which drawers they have access to, the FCS needs to check each drawer's ACCESS.DAT to see whether they have access or not. Ie, PARTITION.DAT is searched sequentially for each drawer and only those that the user has access to are displayed. When a MANAGER does the same thing, a check shows that this user has the OAFC$SYSMAN identifier and the FCS just returns the drawer name (no further access checking). Suggest to your customer that a check by USERNAME will be very much more efficient. Cheers, Iain. |
