2784.0. "Binary data as key field values?" by GANTRY::HULL (Digital Services Delivery - Motown) Tue Jun 01 1993 21:16

A customer wants to use some binary data file where each value is stored as a
LONGWORD as a validation table in ALL-IN-1. They are currently at V2.4,
hopefully soon to be up to V3.0.

I know about the /CONVERT_DATA field qualifier under V3.0, but is it possible
to do key-field operations on binary data like this?

/VALID=form where Form is 1 field, LONGWORD (4 bytes) etc

I suggested that they try something using INSTALL/EXECUTE and write a
function to do what they want, etc.

Suggestions?

Here's exactly what they want to do (just got a FAX with this info):

User enters data on Form A (file A)

Entry of customer name on Form A is validated via Form B (file B)

Customer's address info in stored in File C. The link between files B & C
is a Longword numeric datafield.

Goal is to have user enter Customer name on form A, validate via B and
using form C (file C) as a source, populate customer address fields on form
A.
