2306.0. "Mailbox Problem" by FLEX7::PATON_S (It's not easy having a good time!) Mon Feb 22 1993 17:15

   Problem with Fetcher.

   We have a node FLEX7 with a remote message router on node LARVAE and
   mailbox A1_FLEX7.

   On running the fetcher we get the following error message

      mailbox not recognized A1_FLEX7;MAGICFLUTE
   and in the OA$MTI_ERR file

   22-FEB-1993 13:08:45           %EMD-E-UNRECMBX, mailbox not recognized
   A1_FLEX7;MAGICFLUTE

   The logicals are set as follows:

      OA$MTI_MAILBX     A1_FLEX7
      OA$MTI_MR_NODE    LARVAE
      MR$NODE           ::"22="

   We can make a link to the MRLISTEN object on LARVAE by

      $DEF/EXEC MR_NODE "LARVAE::""22="""
      $OPEN/READ/WRITE MRLINK MR_NODE
      $CLOSE MRLINK

   The mailbox is an exact copy of another one using the LARVAE as its remote
   node and defined as follows:

      A1_FLEX7 REMOTE_RESTRICTION=FLEX7
      	       COMPLETE_MESSAGES
      	       IGNORE_SENDER
      	       GRANT_ID
      	       SERVICE_MESSGAES

   However when we try to use the mailbox A1_FLEX7 and password we get the
   following error messages on the remote node

   Connect request received at 22-FEB-1993 12:02:54.40
       from remote process FLEX7::"0=ALLIN1"
       for object "SYS$COMMON:[SYSEXE]MRLISTEN.COM

         Message Router S3.2 (BL9.09)

   $MROUTER-I-FAILOG_LSTN_C, 19930222120308     The application, ALLIN1 on
   node FLEX7 has connected
   %MROUTER-E-BADINDENT, Invalid Identify to A1_FLEX7 from ALLIN1 on node
   FLEX7

   At end of listener queue.

   We have performed the MAP routines suggested and reset the password. We
   also created a new mailbox and had the same problem.

   Other nodes using LARVAE as their remote mailbox are not having a problem.

   We have recently moved and renamed the node from another DECNET area, but
   do not seem to have any problems relating to this.

Hmm, this is awkward. In my experience, this message ALWAYS means that the
passwords are mismatched. What provokes this message is that ALL-IN-1 has
connected to MR successfully, and then tried to identify to mailbox A1_FLEX7
using a password of MAGICFLUTE. MR is saying that the mailbox has a different
password. So you'd fix this by going into MRMAN and modifying it to
MAGICFLUTE. (Or better, you'd change it in both places, as this one's not much
of a secret password any more!).

But if you've been through all of that I'm afraid I'm stumped.

    Thanks to my old friend Simon Veale I have since discovered that it's a
    feature of V3.2 of Message Router than you can't have a remote
    restriction of less than 6 characters.
    There is a patch available to which I'm sure some kind person will
    place a pointer.

    You mean a bug introduced in v3.2 and fixed in an S-Kit?
