926.2 | You mean ALL-IN-1? | AIMTEC::WICKS_A | DEC Mail Works for ME sometimes | Wed Jun 24 1992 21:46 | 15 |
| Louise,
Not knowing what a DECStep is doesn't help me but I do know that our
favourite office product isn't spelt correctly in the base note
we prefer ALL-IN-1 so please try and humour us.
And now a request for some more info:
1) is anything integrated witH ALL-IN-1 e.g WordPerfect
2) Does GOLD-W show any more info
3) Does SET WATCH show which image it is accessing
Regards,
Andrew.D.Wicks

926.3 | Params OK? | IOSG::PYE | Graham - ALL-IN-1 Sorcerer's Apprentice | Wed Jun 24 1992 23:03 | 8 |
| And, are all the SYSGEN and AUTHORIZE parameters set up as suggested
in the Installation Guide?
Graham
PS I'm beginning to wonder if something in the latest VMS versions has
got bigger or something, and our published numbers aren't big enough
anymore....

926.4 | On a more serious note | IOSG::TALLETT | Arranging bits for a living... | Wed Jun 24 1992 23:27 | 15 |
| Are there any facility codes along with the messages? Like
%SYSTEM-F- or something like that? Have you tried this from
the ALLIN1 manager's account? Or from SYSTEM? Have you tried
AUTOGEN FEEDBACK? Have you been "tuning" the system by writing
parameters with SYSGEN instead of the prescribed AUTOGEN?
At a wild guess it sounds like your P1 space is too small (although
I have to confess to not knowing what privelege vectors are).
As you seem to think that the fact that you have DECstep is
significant, perhaps you could explain to us folks in ivory
towers just what this product is?
Regards,
Paul

926.5 | More questions !!! | AIMTEC::VOLLER_I | Gordon (T) Gopher for President | Thu Jun 25 1992 03:34 | 34 |
| Louise,
The 'privilege vector limit ...' message normally indicates that
there are too many privileged code sections or message sections
linked with the image (or called via LIB$FIND_IMAGE_SYMBOL).
Do you have any other applications or images linked with ALL-IN-1?
Did you get any Linker errors during the installation?
What is the result of relinking ALL-IN-1 with deferred image
activation turned off? Eg.
$ A1$DEFER = 0
$ @OA$BUILD_SHARE:A1LNKDRV ANSWERS ,,,,,,,,,
This will cause images activated by ALL-IN-1 at run time to be
included in the main image. It will be interesting to see the
results from the Linker.
The 'assign channel system service ...' error could be caused
by a number of problems.
Was any additional RMS status returned? Use GOLD-W to see the
message buffer.
Have you had any other major VMS and/or hardware problems recently?
Sorry it's all questions and no answers but I've haven't seen this
problem before.
Cheers,
Iain.

926.6 | DECstep = EASE | UTRTSC::SCHOLLAERT | IOS: better than the real thing | Thu Jun 25 1992 12:17 | 42 |
|
DECstep ??? Seems to be an IS kind of upgrade thing.
DECstep 2.0 contains VMS 5.4-2 as I understand it well.
Normally STARS find everything about anything.
For DECstep I had to open all notes database for success.
Read this note from the Rally 2.2 note file.
-< EASE becomes DECstep >-
>> What's EASE?
In a few words EASE is an environment that you instal when you upgrade
the VMS version on your system. It specifies the list and version of
all the layered products that work with a particular version of VMS.
It is almost mandatory here in Europe to use EASE to ensure that as much
as possible, systems are up-to-date.
For example, EASE V5.3-2 goes with VMS V5.3-2 and list all the products
and their versions, Rdb V3.1b, Rally V2.1-21A, etc.
In your kitinstal.com you just have to check for the EASE version and
can be sure all the other products are ok.
Just for more info:
Cover Letter : DECstep July/August 1991 Migration
Attention:
The term EASE ( European Application Standard Environment ) will no
longer be used by EOPG ( European Operations Platforms Group ).
The EASE kit from July 1991 migration is an offering on the DECstep
( DEC Standard Environment Platform ) package.
It is called the "Application Production Standard Environment" and is one of
four standard platforms currently available via the DECstep package.

| Hello,
Has the problem in .0 been identified ?
One of our user got exactly the same error message as .0 . It
seems not to be reproducible.
Our cluster is running VMS 5.4-3 and ALL-IN-1 v3.0 BL123A (SSB).
Any info ?
Thanks,
Guy David.

926.9 | DTR and WPS-PLUS linked | ULYSSE::DAVID | Guy David @VBE | Tue Sep 08 1992 17:35 | 12 |
| Hello,
We didn't linked something new with our ALL-IN-1.
At V3.0 installation time (last november), it has been linked
with DTR and WPS-PLUS and with a function AS$DFUN (for ASCOT #6).
Last week, we installed SYSTIDY v2.0, but we didn't need to
relink the ALL-IN-1 image.
Does it help ?
Thanks,
Guy David.

926.10 | What was the problem? | KERNEL::VANRIXTELE | Emma van Rixtel | Mon Jan 17 1994 15:07 | 10 |

Does anyone know whether this particular problem was ever solved, as I
have a customer seeing exactly the same problem after upgrading to v3.0
at the weekend. Have got her to check everything that was suggested,
but can not find any other reference to this particular error in either
Stars or in this Notes conference.
Thank you,
Emma.

| ALL-IN-1 v 3.0 VMS v 5.5-2
I have a customer who has recently upgraded to ALL-IN-1 v3.0 and since
then his users have been seeing the following error when they log into
ALL-IN-1 and go to either the EM or WP menu.
%SYSTEM-W-VECFULL, privileged vector limit exceeded.
This is an intermittent problem, he can not be sure of how many users
exactly are seeing this, and it is not something that is happening all
the time. When it does, the users are finding that logging out and back
in again about 5 times tends to clear the error.
The following is an extract from the ALL-IN-1 trace..

------------------------------------------------------------------------
He has 3 nodes, 2 are run by one system disk and the other is run by
another system disk. ALL-IN-1 was installed on the system disk that
controls 2 nodes, and all the information was simply copied onto the
other system disk. He has managed to narrow the problem down to
persistenly happening to all users on the system disk that had all the
information copied over. In other words, at present it is specific to
one node only. He is currently doing more test to find out whether the
problem is occurring at all on the other 2 nodes, or whether it is
intermittent.
He is also faxing a copy of his sitelink30.com file and I will post the
contents in here when I receive it.
He is also running several other layered products within ALL-IN-1,
they are 2020, VIVID and ALL-IN-1 Desktop Server. I still don't have
enough information about these products. I will post anything else I
get when I receive it.
Thank you.
Emma.

926.12 | All fixed | KERNEL::VANRIXTELE | Emma van Rixtel | Wed Jan 19 1994 15:32 | 14 |
|
Customer has just confirmed that this problem is specific to the node
with the system disk with the ALL-IN-1 files copied over. It does not
appear to occur on the other 2 nodes. It is also not occurring for
users on that node that have full privs.
Anyway, the problem is occurring mainly due to the fact that he did
copy over the system files, rather than doing the proper installation.
Deleting the images and re-installing them will not work, he actually
needs to install ALL-IN-1 properly.
Just thought I would let everyone know what the problem was.
Emma.

926.13 | sys$library:*.exe /prot=w=re | UTRTSC::SCHOLLAERT | Holland goes USA | Fri Jan 21 1994 11:56 | 14 |
| Hello,
We had this problem at a cusomtomer site. Also copied files
over instead of installing ALL-IN-1.
$set watch file and $set audi /ala/ena=file=fail both showed
that one file in sys$library (I think it was DSL$SHR.EXE)
was missing W=RE .
Modifiying the protection solved the problem.

Jan

926.14 | Same here! | KERNEL::VANRIXTELE | Emma van Rixtel | Fri Jan 21 1994 12:04 | 5 |

That was exactly the same file that my customer had messed up. The
missing protection was obviously what was causing the error!
All solved now though..
