I did search for a ref. honest! and this might not be the right notes file.. One of my customers would like to have the following... On the Login window he would like to type in either "shutdown" or "reboot" and then maybe a password. The system would then do what it was told. This would enable the owner of the cluster member to switch of his/her workstation at night/the weekend/holiday's etc without having to get the system manager to do it all. I would like to know ... If this has already been done. What are the settings for the UAF entry. ..etc.. I have tried using a "captive" a/c but this is not allowed, any help welcome. Paul.

Why not create a privileged account called SHUTDOWN with a LOGIN.COM with the following contents: $ SHUTDOWN == "@SYS$SYSTEM:SHUTDOWN 0 SHUTDOWN YES NO LATER NO NONE" $ SHUTDOWN -Andy

There is a tool somewhere (toolshed? assets?) called NPS$SHUTDOWN. This tool will allow a non-privved user to shutdown certain nodes. this might be what you want. Jeff.
3075.3 | NPS$SHutdown broken for VMS 5.4 | TARKIN::AHO | Skeet addict... | Tue Nov 13 1990 11:34 | 14 |
re .0 I'm not sure if you've opted for the Nps$shutdown procedure or not, but be aware that due to the alogorithm used for VMS 5.4 for passwords the NPS$SHUTDOWN procedure doesn't work. I haven't found the "kit" anywhere so I can't re-install it to see if that fixes the problem, so if someone out there has a fix please respond to this note... Thanks, Mike |
