1149.0. "Server DECNet links accumulate in ``closed'' state." by VINO::WITHROW (Mass recall petitions available here!) Thu Jul 20 1989 18:55

Can anyone tell me why DECNet links seek to keep accumulating to my
server object. Nothing I do seems to make them go away. Resetting
the server does no good, and obvious NCP commands seem to do
nothing either. I don't find links in the `closed' state on
other nodes.... Here is a list:

1149.2I've got a problem with this tooOPG::KENKen Lee @REO 830 6778Tue Feb 13 1990 15:3920
I have an application which is causing this same problem, sometimes chewing
up all available resources. What seems to happen, is that if the display I am
trying to open is logged out, or otherwise unavailable, a link is created, goes
to a 'closed' state, but doesn't go away until the image exits. As the routine
may have several displays open, I don't want to just die off just because I am
unable to open a display.

I see that this was first mentioned some time ago, has anyone found an
answer yet?

This same application suffers from another problem :- If any of the opened
displays causes a fatal I/O error (eg gets logged out or otherwise breaks the
conection), DECWindows causes the whole thing to fall over. The documentation
about SET I/O ERROR HANDLER states that if the user supplied error handler
returns, then the image will exit anyway. Is there any way around this?

BTW We are using VMS 5.3 and associated DECWindows.

Ken.
