I'm Mary Ellen Zurko. I work in the Architecture and Advanced Developement
Group in Secure Systems. I've just signed up to help on the UI of a prototype
of Privacy Enhanced [aka encrypted] Mail. I'm quite fond of Shakespeare.

    I'm Bonnie Jeanne Reinke. I work in Manufacturing in the Forecast Group
    for the 'low end' options business. I am a Project Specalist III and
    currently work on producing reports for the Forecast Group. I currently
    do a lot of my work coding fexes in FOCUS. I'm also APICS certified. 
    I've been with Digital for 6 years. 
    
    Prior to coming to DEC I taught Biology and related subjects at the 
    community/junior college level. 
    
    I've been married for 23 years this June and have 5 children (4 adopted 
    specialneeds/mixed race). The oldest two are in college. We live on an old
    farm in North Central Mass. We tried raising goats and chickens and
    ducks and geese and rabbits and heating with wood etc. for a while.
    Now our only animals are our pets but we still have a big vegetable
    garden.
    
    

    I am Ann A. Broomhead.  I am Fonts Engineering for Hardcopy
    Engineering in VIPS, which is in Westford, Mass., just north of
    the ever-popular Littleton sites.
    
    I am divorced, and live in my own home with my er-um friend, Tim
    Szczesuil (rhymes with schedule), and my two cats, [The Grey] Moth[er],
    and [Saint] Fidgetus, her son.
    
    My interests include science fiction, crime, roleplaying, cooking, and
    needlework.  My interests do not include housekeeping and gardening.

Laura Ervin, and I'm still working in the area of personnel systems, although 
with the winds of change blowing through every organization, it's hard to say 
how long I'll be working in this job or this organization.  I have recently 
started thinking about moving into software services and looking for a 
position in So. California...we'll see...

I recently moved to Stow (I work at the Stow facility) and living 4 miles 
away from the facility sure is a big improvement on what used to be a 50 
mile round trip commute.  Other changes...my hair is grayer than it was
two years ago when I introduced myself.

    Creative writer for my own enjoyment.  General human being.
    
    I can be found roundabout the valuing differences notesfiles, FLEX,
    Joyoflex, SF, Holistic....etc....
    
    I also provide a unique service to the Womannotes community.  I am the
    womannotes archivist.  When topics come up in Womannotes that I have
    seen before, I will compile pointers to other discussions pertinent to
    the one at hand and post the pointer list in the file, so that people
    may peruse the other discussions as well as the new topic.  In
    addition, people can send me e-mail if they are seeking information on
    certain topics, or if they wish to start a topic and are unsure as to
    whether or not one already exists in the notesfile.

    Melanie Frechette... I work in Shrewsbury as a Project Specialist.
    I'm in the world of memory boards.  Before coming to DEC, I worked 
    for United Technologies Hamilton Standard and Diesel Systems divisions.
    
    I am also a ski instructor at Mt Wachusett, I play basketball on the
    DWBL, ski, bicycle, skiing, hiking, skiing, cross-stitch, and
    gardening.  Oh, did I mention skiing?  :-)

Diana Elane (no "i") Carroll...often called D (or "Dbang" as per my signature)
by my friends (and enemies too, I guess.)

I work as a software engineer on LSE for TLE in ZKO (translation: Language
Sensitie Editor, Technical Languages & Environments and Nasua, respectively.)
I graduated not quite one year ago from RPI (aka Rensselaer) with a degree
in Computer Science, and my current Ultimate Goal in Life is to get a PhD.
I just haven't decide where or when, or even what subject yet.

My current interests include science fiction, games of all sorts, scuba 
diving, music (listening to just about anything, and recently playing my
keyboard), food (mostly eating [anything] but also making), motorcycles,
and all sorts of other things I couldn't possibly list here.

I read this file because it has the most interesting conversation, most
intelligent, well-versed participants, and most professional and fair
moderation of any random group of people I have every encountered.  And
because I love meeting new people, especially women (since I don't meet
them easily) - so feel free to write me anytime about anything.

    I'm Lorna St.Hilaire.  I'm an admin. secretary at the Mill in Maynard,
    and I've been with the company for 14 1/2 yrs.
    
    I'm divorced, 40 yrs. old, and have one daughter (Melissa, age 16
    yrs.), and five cats (Jade, Raven, Frodo, Julian & Ace).
    
    I've been reading womannotes since June 1986.  It's been upsetting
    at times, but mostly a lot of fun.  And, it's definitely had more
    impact on me than I ever thought it would at the beginning!

     Kathy Maxham.... I work as a Tech Writer in Littleton and
     live in North Central Mass. Before working as a Tech Writer,
     my work revolved around food: advocacy work for the federal
     feeding programs by day, waiting tables by night.

     In my free time, I read, play with the dog, work around the
     house and yard, walk, watch movies, read notes, whatever.

    I can't remember whether or not I introduced myself in V2, so I'll
    do it now:
    
    My name is Lynn Terashita.  I am the system manager for the Downtown
    Los Angeles Customer Presentation Center (aka, Demo Center).  I
    was a Software Secretary for 2.5 years and have had this new position
    for one month.
    
    I live in Torrance, California, with my husband, cat and dog.  In
    our spare(?) time we garden, go to movies, see friends and family,
    read, travel and dabble in photography.  Less enjoyably, we share
    the housekeeping duties and try to keep our home in a reasonable
    state of repair.
    
    I am a co-moderator of the DEC_SECRETARY notesfile, have been an
    enthusiastic noter since I started at Digital, and look forward
    to participating in WN3.

    I work in Data Admin for US Field Service.  It's interesting to
    be in on the birth of a "new" discipline.
    
    I began contributing to this conference in V2.  It has been the 
    source of much thought, a few tears, and a great deal of laughter.  
    I'm looking forward to a continuation in this incarnation of the file.
    Normally, I find myself searching for common ground and compromise 
    when issues get polarized.    

    I am a single mom of a 16 year old boy, divorced for almost 11 years. 
    Enabling his growth is my current biggest job, and a source of growth
    for me.  
    
    I read much, square dance at least weekly, downhill ski when there
    is snow, enjoy spectator sports and needlework of all kinds, and hate 
    housework.  I have 2 sisters, both married with small babies (somewhere, 
    I think my timing on having my kid was off).

    Hi, I'm a principal programmer/analyst working at CHM in Chelmsford
    (currently - the group is moving this summer, probably to PKO) for 
    the Reference organization.   I've been with DEC for almost 9 years,
    and worked for the government in Germany prior to that.
    
    I'm divorced, and share living space with my two younger daughters,
    both adults (20 and 23).   My oldest is living far away with her
    husband and two beautiful children 8-( (but that gves me some excuse
    to travel, right!)
    
    My interests include science fiction, roleplaying, needlework, reading,
    and travel.

    Hi, but drat!  I'm still not caught up (will I ever be?) with V2.
    
    I'm forty-two years old, married, mother of three but only practicing
    on one since my oldest daughter is married and living in Georgia,
    my son is grown and considering a move to Florida.  Youngest daughter
    is fourteen and living right here!  I live in Merrimack, NH, and
    work at MKO1 (love that three minute commute).  I share my life
    with King Kong cat.  I'm a member of the Church of Jesus Christ
    of Latter Day Saints, too - hope to see you in the CACHE::MORMONISM 
    conference!
    
    I'm an Education Project Leader I, and have been for four days
    now.  Prior to that I was a secretary (Sec I to Sec II to
    Administrative Secretary) for various groups during my nine years
    at Digital.

    Been at Digital 3 yrs+, started as a trainee operator, moved to senior
    and ended up in Sales Operations.
    Live in Sydney, Australia, twenty-two years old and recently single. 
    (No not divorced, "un-defactoed").  I don't have any kids and had to
    leave my pets with my mum when I moved into a flat.  I visit them
    regularly, a ginger moggie called Henri and a Lhasa Apso called Brandi.
    My interests are many but I'm studying Information Science part-time at
    University so don't have much time to pursue them.  
    I'm mostly read-only but am sometimes compelled to reply, discuss, ask
    questions, etc like the rest of us.

    I've been in -v2 for quite a while and never signed in. I dunno why.
    
    I'm an accountant turned computer operator. Although I'm degreed in
    business and all, I decided to work nights so that I can spend more
    time with my beautiful and talented children, Daniel 4 and Lisa 2.
    Working 3rd shift keeps me pretty tired but I've "de-stressed" over
    the last couple of months and the kids are such fun.
    
    I paint in oils in my spare (HA!) time. I also enjoy photography,
    hiking, camping, and movies.
    
    I consider myself a child-advocate as much as a feminist and I am
    definately pro-choice. You'll her me pipe up in regards to day-care 
    issues, issues regarding drug addicted babies, child exploitation etc.
    
    Now and then I will attend a womannotes party. Nice folks, all of you.

Hi, my name is Birgit "Billie" Traxler, I have been working for DEC Vienna/
Austria for a year now, and my current position is Marketing Support & 
Promotion for CSO.

I am almost 25 years old and will get married in October this year. My 
favorite hobbies are reading, going to and playing theatre, dancing, eating,
going out with friends and a lot more. I'm also active in Euro_Women, Human_
Relations, Dejavu and Weightloss.

	Hi, I'm Sue Nale.  I started participating in =wn= V2 about a
	year and a half ago.  I've only recently started contributing.
	Mostly I'm here to learn.  Learning entails listening.  When
	I feel I've got something new to contribute, I'll do so.  I try
	to avoid the "me too" syndrome which ends up just taking up
	disk space.

	In the last year or so I've learned a lot about myself and about
	people in general from reading these notes.  I've always felt
	strongly about women's equality, however I didn't always feel
	"qualified" to speak out too strongly about them.  I've gained
	both information about women's position in our society, and the 
	courage to speak out when I feel it's not being valued. 

	Now for the more concrete info, I work as a software engineer in
	Database Systems.  My group has recently moved to NUO in Nashua,
	NH.  I've worked for DEC for almost 2 years.  Prior to that I
	was getting my CS engineering degree from the University of 
	Connecticut.

	Since my intro in V2 I've gotten engaged.  Mark and I have been
	"an item" for over 3 years, and we're getting married August 24,
	1991 (that's right, 1991).  Things are a little compilicated as
	he works as an electrical engineer in Wallingford, CT.  We do
	the weekend shuffle thang.

	 For fun I bike, snow ski, swim, camp, hike, make stained glass 
	windows (that is, when I have a place to do it) and read all kinds 
	of stuff.

	I'm looking forward to what V3 brings.

    Hi V3! I'm a Tech Writer in the PCSG group in Littleton.  Next mos I'll
    have been at DEC one year!  I'm truely amazed at how much I learned in
    one year, one of the best things was learning about WN.
    
    I live in Woostah with my SO Yvonne, and the zoo - 2 dogs, 2 cats, 2
    birds.  
    
    Just about a week before I began working at DEC we bought our house,
    which has a cliff behind it.  We spend a lot of time trying to get
    things to grow in the rock garden we built on the cliff.  Yvonne
    wants to put lighting and a water fall in this year!  Any aqua
    electricians out there.
    
    In addition to gardening, I enjoy reading, playing touch football,
    raquetteball, running, and biking.

    My name is Kim Apodaca.  Presently I am working as a secretary in
    the Westfield plant (now why doesn't that sound as impressive as
    say, a Hardware Engineer, or Project Specialist?  ;).  I've been
    at Digital for somewhat over three years (counting temp-time) and
    a little less than three years counting only DEC-time.  My basic
    purpose in this file is to come in, write long notes, and antagonize
    the extremists.  ;))))))))  (kidding, HONEST!)
    
    I live in Suffield, Connecticut in what the locals consider a high-rent
    area.  Having come from Californian where this "high-rent" is average
    rent, it seems not to have an adverse effect on me other than my
    pocketbook.  I really enjoy the geography of New England and besides,
    there's variation of weather here, so before you wonder WHY I left
    California, read that.  :)  
    
    The other reason I moved here was to be close to my boyfriend, with
    whom I met via a telecommunications service.  3000+ miles was a
    bit telling on the relationship, so I decided to assault him on
    closer range.  Strange thing was, he asked me to move in with him.
     ;)
    
    We reside with my animals, one parakeet (may her buddy rest in peace),
    two goldfish, and five cats, Ashely, Bones, Christmas Kitty, Freeway
    and Jasime.  As far as I am concerned, those are my kids.
    
    As far a feminism and my views tie in, I consider myself a moderate.
    I do not believe extremes will solve a point, nor do I enjoy winning
    rights for myself only at someone else's expense.  However, I DO
    believe quite strong in those rights, be they abortion, equality
    in the workplace and equality in the world.  Do not tell me I cannot
    do something until I have proven I cannot is my theory on what women
    can or cannot do.  Unfortunately, my idealism is tempered with the
    thoughts that what was made over thousands of years cannot be
    unravelled within one lifetime.  Fortunately, we keep trying.
    
    I look forward to version three and hope we can learn from version
    two's achievements and mistakes.

    Design and Development Group.  Currently on contract to BOIS in Nashua.
    Just finished my first year with DEC.
    
    Married to a DECcie; two young adults who happen to be my children and 
    a dog round out the family.
    
    In my spare time (did I hear anyone ask what spare time??) I like to
    explore the needle crafts (you'll find me in ERIS::THREADS, too), read

    3 years ago I joined Digital as a temporary secretary; I am now a
    Project Specialist in the ASDS Program Office.
    
    My various and sundry life before Digital included:  earning a masters
    degree in San Francisco; working for Bechtel and Levi Strauss in S.F.;
    writing grants for Pacific Northwest Ballet in Seattle; Executive
    Director of Worcester Children's Theatre...there's a good reason why
    that field is referred to as "non-profit"!
    
    My life outside of Digital includes quilting - teaching, designing,
    taking classes, entering competitions, tap dance, taking looong walks
    on the beach, spending time with my fiance, friends and family.
    
    I'm still adapting to the changes this year has brought - changing
    jobs, becoming engaged, and looking forward to getting married in
    September.
    
    Knowledge is important to me, as is the willingness to try new things. 
    I try to remain open-minded about various and sundries, but some old
    habits die hard. 
    
    Creativity and the ability to express myself is critical to my sense of
    balance.  I see myself as a multi-faceted person who expresses herself
    in a variety of ways, and who looks to learn from others as the
    opportunity presents itself.
    

    Well, as I've been an active reader of Womannotes for about 3 years 
    now, I guess it's really about time I signed myself in!

    I am currently a senior software engineer in the Terminal Server
    Software group, and have been with DEC for almost 4 years.
   
    I am 26, recently married, and my outside interests are aerobics 
    (currently in instructor training), volleyball, hiking, biking,
    some weight-lifting... (you get the idea, sports!), cooking, reading... 

    I read Womannotes because of the many thought-provoking notes which
    constantly cause me to think, re-evaluate my beliefs, and initiate
    positive (to me!) changes in myself.  I've learned an awful lot over 
    the past three years of reading...  

    I like to refer to myself as a feminist with traditional interests.
    I like to cook, I like having children and I love being a grandmother!
    
    But I dislike inequality!  
    
    I work as a Finance Supervisor at Dascomb Road with the responsibility
    of managing the international accounting for Digital's effort at 
    recycling computer parts.
    
    I have four adult children, one son-in-law, two daughters-in-law, two
    grandchildren, a mother, and three grandpups.  I pay cat-custody
    payments for a tiger cat appropriately named CAT.  He had to remain
    with my oldest daughter when I moved out.
    
    I am a co-moderator of Human Relations and Hiking, an active member of
    the AMC and very interested in Elder Care.
    
    I will pop in from time to time....my cause the disadvantaged...expect 
    strong opinions on that subject!
    

    My name is Lauren Foster, 'ren to friends. I work with a scanning
    electron microscope doing energy dispersive x-ray analysis to determine
    elemental compositions for the Advanced Semiconductor Development group
    in Hudson. I do NOT speak SOFTWARE...
    
    Fact is, the job was posted in V-2! Thank you, Barbi! 
    
    I can be a very serious minded person with great hope and vision for
    myself and the world. I have in mind projects to empower women, as well
    as projects to empower young black children. My eyes will always be
    focused in both directions. I am a feminist. I am also a black woman,
    with a set of issues that the "feminist movement" often ignores. I
    accept this. And I am Buddhist. One of the best choices I ever made in
    my life.
    
    At the same time, I'd like to believe that I can have fun. I love to
    dance to Top 40 R&B (the "soul" chart), I love a good relatively
    competitive volleyball game (yeah, that SIX to a side, not nine!) I
    read mysteries, espionage smut and sci-fi voraciously, and I'm learning
    to throw in non-fiction on top of my love of folklore and a good story.
    I can cook if there's company, I can play any card game, given the
    rules, and I can talk up a storm. On a good day, I can also listen. ;-)
    
    Sometimes, I am here to teach. Sometimes I am here to learn. I always
    expect to grow.
                                                                           

What the hey, I've already posted a note so I might as well be a good do-bee
and sign in.

Started with DEC as a summer hire in 1980 and have earned my pay working
on diagnostics, compilers, and now CDAtm (Compound Document Architecture) 
utilities.  I am currently a Software Engineer Senior in the Spitbrook facility
in Nashua, NH.  Previous to DEC I spent a lot of time waiting tables to pay
for college.

I'm a second generation programmer.  Both Mom and Dad were programmers when
they met at some sweat shop in NJ.  My Dad has been with DEC since '75 and
my husband, Marty (gear JAMMER::) Jack has been around since '73.  My Mom
provides the safety net should DEC go down the tubes, she is head of computers
at a small firm in Leominster, MA. 

I'm a cat loving nerd who likes food, music, Mother Nature, contra dancing, 
airplanes, legal stuff, and making a difference in the world.

I'm currently two-thirds of the way to a masters in Engineering Management, so
I don't have a lot of free time.  I've been an avid =wn= reader since the V1
days and this is the only "personal" conference I have time for.  This file 
has helped me in many ways.

    I'm Danielle Marie (dm) and I work in the Bedford facility.  
    Currently my title is Admin Sec. but I'm currently working
    on writing a manual internal to Ed Services Quality Assurance
    office procedures.  Once this project is done I'll be looking
    for another position (been a secretary for a year... that's
    'nuff!) perhaps in a writing group, or sales.
    
    I've got many outside interests, including sewing, cooking,
    sports, gardening (brand new, this year!), church - related
    events, etc.

I'm Carol duBois (note the small "d"), formerly Carol Johns, a Systems Support
Specialist on the Language Support Team at the Colorado Springs Customer
Support Center.  I started working for Digital in 1983 as a temporary CRR 
(I answered the phones) and worked my way up so that I am currently a 
"Spec III".  I enjoy my job and currently support C and DECWindows.
Occasionally I also support FORTRAN, BASIC, ADA, COBOL, PASCAL, etc, etc. 
I used to support GKS graphics and was loaned to another group for a few months
to write part of a graphics application to be used here. 

Originally from Southern California, I attended college in San Diego, and my
family is from the South and the Ozarks. I have a B.A. from San Diego State
University in Psychology and a minor in Business Administration, Management.
I have also studied Computer Science, Mathematics, French, Russian, ASL,
Spanish, Anthropology (under Shirley Strum), and Art History.

I came through Colorado while singing with an evangelistic team, and later
returned here to live.  It was a wonderful move.  I really like it here.

On a personal note, I am married to a wonderful woman and we currently have one
son, Evan, born on March 11, 1988.  We also have 4 cats and numerous fish. 
With luck, we may have another child in the next year or so.

I have been reading/writing to Womannotes for a LONG time now, and really 
enjoy it.  I have made many, many friends here, and I thank you for being you.

    My name is Bernie Harmon.   I work in Digital Manufacturing Plant,
    Ballybrit, Galway, Ireland for the past ten years.   Is it really
    that long, time goes by so fast.
    
    At present, I am a Material Controller, but my main ambition is
    to become a Programmer.   To meet my aim, I have attended night
    courses in our local Regional Technical College.   The first part
    of this course is now finished and the second part will be starting
    next October.
    
    I am married to a lovely hunk called Eamon.   We are three years
    married, no kids yet.
    
    My main interests are reading, driving, bingo, draughts and watching
    videos.
    
    I found Womannotes-V2 very interesting and the people very helpful.

    Hi, I know I introduced myself in V-2, but it's easier to write
    a new one than to try to find the old one.
    
    I work in LJO. My job is tech writer, but I spend most of the time
    playing with our electronic publishing tools.I've been with DEC
    for almost 6 years.
    
    I am married to a fellow DECcie, (gosox::ryan) and we have 2 furry
    kids (aka Kitties) Sinaed (calico), and Omie (black and white).
    We live in Pepperrel MA, a little town on the NH border.
    It's not an exciting town, but it suits us as we are boring little
    people.
    
    My hobbies include cross stitch, music and carpentry (our house
    is 130 years old and I do all of the inside repair work).
    
    I'm in ELF as Denise, but most people call me..

    I'm Cathy Giunta, and I'm a Product Marketing Manager in the AI group
    located at DLB (Marlboro).  I've been in this position for all of a
    week, so am still getting acclimated and learning what it is I'm 
    supposed to be doing.  I've been with DEC for 8 years, starting as
    a Packaging Engineer and moving into Project/Program Management,
    Business Planning and now Marketing. 
    
    On a personal note, I've been married to Mark for almost 7 years.  We
    don't have any children yet, but we're working on it.  In my spare
    time, I love to do any kind of craft.  Cross-stitch is my favorite, but
    I also enjoy quilting, crocheting, sewing, embroidery....well, you get
    the picture.
    
    I've been reading womannotes since the beginning, and tend to be a
    read-only noter unless some topic really interests me.  I've learned
    quite a lot from this file and the people in it, and am looking forward
    to being a part of V3.

    My name is Justine Sullivan, and I've been involved in this file 
    almost since the beginning.  I don't live with any cats or kids.  
    Last August I bought my first house with my sweetie of a little over 
    three years, and it's very exciting to be starting a garden, planting 
    flowers, and watching the plants and trees that were here before us come 
    into bloom.
    
    Last May I finally finished my undergraduate degree after almost 10 years 
    of full- and then part-time school.  Since the day after the Webster
    decision got announced, I've been volunteering once a week at the
    Evelyn Murphy (For Mass. Governor) campaign, and I got elected as
    a delegate to the Mass. Dem. convention coming up in June.  In the
    last year or so, I've rediscovered my music.  I sing and play guitar,
    mostly folk and women's music, and it's been wonderful.  I hope to do
    some performing at coffee houses in the area.  I'd love to find a woman
    keyboard player or singer and/or guitarist to play with.  My sweetie
    plays viola, and I think keyboards and maybe another voice would really
    add a lot.
    
    At Digital I'm a Technical Writer in Chelmsford.  I've been with the 
    company almost six years, and I started as a Temp. and then a wage class II
    registrar at the training center in Bedford, Mass.  Womannotes has been
    a very important part of my life at Digital.  I love hearing other women's
    stories, and I've made some wonderful friendships through this file.  I'm
    thrilled to be joining the team of comods, and I'm very happy to see some
    new "faces" introducing themselves to the file.

    I currently work as a Senior Software Specialist in EIS (formally
    SWS/E) located in MK2.  I've been with Digital 2.5 years.
    
    My SO and I have been together for almost six years and married for
    three years.  We met while pursuing our undergraduate degrees in
    Computer Science at UNH.  We have no children but have two adorable
    cats, Mandy & Koko,  that we treat like our kids!
    
    I like to dabble in photography and video.  I love music.  I play the
    piano and saxaphone.
    
    I've been reading Womannotes ever since I joined Digital.  I try to
    stay mostly read only.  The file does supply lots of information and
    has broadened my perspective on various minority issues.  It also tends
    to get my blood boiling so I try not to get too involved.

Process Development Engineer, Hudson MA

I've been with DEC for 1.5 years, started right out of school after getting a BS
in Materials Science.  I spend a lot of my time in the wafer fabrication areas.

Single and unattached, I like to grow stuff in my garden, listen to and 
participate in college radio, go out to loud shows at clubs in Boston,
read when I have the chance, write to friends that are far away, cross-country
ski (NO downhill).  I also enjoy reliving my childhood with friends, many of
whom share my facination with "things that you're supposed to outgrow".

My goals for the summer are to learn to swim better, to get a fish for my fish
tank (and keep it alive), to take lots of pictures with my new camera to learn
more about photography, to make it out to Tanglewood a couple times, and to
just enjoy the nice weather and sunlight while it's still here.

Eventually I want to go back to school and get an advanced degree.  And maybe
I'll take a vacation. =)

I've been reading and participating in =wn= for a little over a year.  I don't
usually write a lot of responses due to time constraints; I try to put a lot of 
thought into them and it takes a while for me to say things just the way I want.
Also, someone usually has already taken the words out of my mouth =).  
And even though I may not write, many of the topics discussed here have caused
me to think about things that I may not have considered important before.

 I am Robin Aagesen (Ahh'-ge-sen), a senior manufacturing engineer at GSO 
in Greenville, South Carolina. I work in New Product Development, busily 
supplying printed wiring boards to most module manufacturing sites within 
Digital.

 I have been with Digital a little more than 2 years, and read-always/
write-sometimes in =WN='s since the last few months of V2's predecessor. 
Last April (and again in Nov) I had the pleasure of meeting several 
=WN=er's at the march/rally for Women's Reproductive Rights in Washington 
D.C. I find myself laughing, crying, *screaming*, and especially learning, 
along with alot of other women here in =WN='s.

 Life before Digital was spent mostly in southern Florida. Maybe that is 
why the ocean has such a hypnotic, calming effect on me. I have two 
distinct passions outside of work - reading and traveling. I can never seem 
to get enough of either! I also share joint custody of my 2yr old English 
Springer Spaniel dog-child, Mysti, with my ex-SO.

 I frequent several of the notes conferences listed under the VoD section
in EASYNOTES, as well as comoderate BGLAD (Bisexual/Gay/Lesbian employees
at Digital).

    I've been in =wn= for about 2 years, mostly read-only, but occasionally
    I respond when something hits me hard enough.
    
    I work in Software Licensing Ops, part of U.S. Sales Administration, in
    PKO.  Currently I'm working to eliminate traditional licensing for
    software products which have ClusterWide licensing in place.  I've been
    with DEC for 8+ years.
    
    I have a good sense of humor and enjoy people but basically am a loner.
    Been with John for 11 years, married for almost 7. My son Ryan will be
    2 this summer, and is the magic of my life with his chatterings and
    silliness.  I also have 2 stepdaughters who visit frequently, and from
    whom I've gradually learned what it means to be a stepmom.
    
    I read avidly, biographies and quick fiction; golf whenever I get the
    time; plot my vegetable garden endlessly; and knit voraciously.  And, I
    have a wonderful 7 year old Rottweiler named Thor, who is a gentle
    giant.
    

    My name is Barbara Haslam.  I've been with DEC for 5 1/2 years as
    a Systems Manager in the Salt Lake City, Utah, office.  I am a single
    (read--separated) parent of 7 children, step-mother of 3 sons whom
    I never see and grandmother of 2 grandsons (one, of whom, I delieved
    at home for my daughter).  I recently turned 43 and enjoy growing
    older.  Although I am registered in earlier volumes, I won't bother to 
    look up the numbers.  I normally read and write to this file,
    especially on topics like battered women/children, sexual abuse,
    and abortion.

I'm the Release Engineer/Ultrix System Mangler for the Image Systems Group
in Merrimack. I've been with DEC for almost 7 years. I've been mostly 
read-only in =wn= since the day it started. I have been at different times 
enlightened, angered, bored, amused and shocked at some of the things I've 
read in here. I'm mostly relieved that I'm not the only woman in the world 
that never quite got over "tomboydom". I hate dressing up and going to 
anything fancy, I don't do make-up, I wear jeans and sneakers most of the 
time and I drive a pick-up truck. I'm pro-choice, anti-guncontrol of any kind 
and so incredibly laid back that the members of my group come sit in my 
office when they get all stressed out about something (I guess they think I'm 
sort of valium or something :-)). I'm an outdoor type person, love camping, 
hiking biking, swimming etc. My greatest passion however, is traveling. I 
think there is not enough time for me to see all the things I want to see.

I married another (aging hippy) DECcie last May. We're actively trying to 
escape New England and get ourselves relocated to Georgia or someplace down 
south where one can do all the above mentioned things year round without
fear of frostbite.

    I am Ann Dillon and work in Winston-Salem, North Carolina in Customer
    Services.  I have been with DEC 9 years.  My background is in contract
    administration and I am presently working a pilot project for SOA with
    one of our focused accounts (RJ Reynolds Tobacco Co).
    
    I am a single parent.  My son, Matt is 10 years old.  His father has
    been out of the picture since several months prior to Matt's birth.
    
    I have been reading this conference for about a week at the suggestion
    of my manager, who is a very unique and visionary man.  I have gained
    some new insight into some old issues since I started reading.
    
    One thing that I'm interested in is sharing information with other
    single moms about rearing a child/children in a single parent
    environment, particularly moms rearing sons.
    
    I may not be so gifted at words as some of the noters but promise that
    I'm every bit as sincere.
    

    Since I haven't introduced myself since V1, now is as good a time as
    any...

    I'm Jan D'Addamio, a Principal Software Engineer (or is that Software
    Principal Engineer, now?) at DECwest Engineering in Bellevue, WA.  I've
    been at DEC for over 3 years - first two years at ZK.  I have a BA in
    Math and an MS in Computer Science.  Being one of only a few women in
    the CS dept. in grad school in the early 70's really got me started as
    a feminist, and I've been "chewing glass" since then.

    My husband, John, and I have been married for 18 years and are childless
    by choice.  We moved out to WA almost 2 years ago from NH, and live on a 
    63 acre farm out in the boonies with our 3 horses and 9 dogs.  We train
    our horses in dressage (and like liesl are into high leather boots,
    whips, and spurs :-), but also really enjoy riding through the woods
    around us.

    I'm read mostly, replying to notes on occasion.

My name is Joana Bize. I am 34 years old, married, two daughters (16 and 10),
two cats, one dog. 

I have been at Digital for 12 years, and am now an Information Specialist II, 
my speciality being Network Support. Though I enjoy my work very much, my main 
reason for staying this long at DEC is that it's a 7 minutes drive from home...

My all-time favourite occupation is reading, and I have had to limit myself to 
second-hand paperbacks only for financial reasons. I read very quickly, which 
allows me to keep-up with =WN= !

I have been reading =WN= for - I think - 3+ years, and have become a feminist
in the process. I have had my mind both changed and confirmed in =WN=. Though 
I may be the only one to notice it, I have grown a lot in these last 3 years.

    Gail Koski, associate Operations Analyst. I have been on the Technical
    Assistance Hotline for 6 months here at MK2 (Merrimack, NH). I've
    been with DEC for 2 1/2 years, no were worth mentioning before that.
    
    I like my work but it is not my life. I participate in a multitude
    of sports, depending on what time of year it is. I am the Trea$urer
    of the Digital Woman's basketball League, and the center for the
    Cyclones. I'm playing for Full DEC in the Southern NH Woman's Softball
    League. And that's just the organized sports.

    I've gotten a lot out of notes: my job, roommate, boyfriend, advise,
    money. Lately I've cut down on my recreational noting, and in this
    conference, I've been hitting next unseen a lot. If I wanted to
    read SOAPBOX I'd look on another node.... (end of editorial)

I'm Barbara Miner and I may be a =wn= addict  :-)  

My job is to take **beautiful** pictures of very small things.  I work
in Hudson, MA in the Advanced Semiconductor Development group.

I've been with Digital for 18 months; this is my first real world
experience after school.  My husband and I moved to Massachusetts from
Arizona; we both grew up in Montana and have travelled a lot in the
West.

I've been married for almost SEVEN years to my sweetheart.  We have no
kids and no pets.  I'm not particularly fond of computers.  My favorite
pasttime is reading -- especially history, biographies of women (except
movie stars), science fantasy, and psychology.  I love to bake; I write
long letters to my sisters and parents and am starting a family
biography.  I am also treasurer for a non-profit Nursery School, a "Scientist
by Mail" for the Museum of Science, and I'm trying my first New England garden.
I love to travel, plan vacations, and read about other times and cultures.  

I'm not very social and =wn= has filled a very large need for me.  It is
the only non-work-related notesfile that I read, but I read everything
(well OK -- I skipped a couple dozen abortion replies in V2).  Maybe in
this volume I'll even write enough to have a "noting personality"

    Hi Im Judy Pilotte. I work in GIA Headquarters in BPO, Marlboro Mass
    (soon to be AKO2).  I have been with DEC for almost 13 years.  I
    started as an associate programmer analyst and now with JEC i think Im
    called a Principle Information Systems Specialist.  My responsibilities
    are to lead projects with programmer resources in TAO (Taiwan) to
    enhance MAXCIM functionality for GIA.
    
    I am 35, I am married to another Deccie and I have a 10 daughter Lauren 
    and a 13 yr old step-daughter.
    My interests include embroidery and going to antique shows and
    flea-markets.  I also like new-wave music and would like to travel
    more.  
    We have a 27 ft motorhome that we use to get-away on weekends and for
    vacations.
    
    I have enjoyed this notes file and well wishes to all in V3...

    I live in Brookline with a (slightly neurotic, aren't they all) cat
    named Sheba and a roommate who's into photography.  It's comfortable
    and pleasant and close to a lot of things to do.
    
    Spare time is spent visiting friends and singing in an "a cappella"
    group called the Copley Cats.  We are always looking for 2nd altos, so
    if you are female, have an extremely deep (tenor) voice, and good
    pitch, _please_ contact me! 
    
    Before technical writing at Digital, I worked at a high-tech ad agency
    in publicity; before that I worked at MIT editing the book review
    section for a history journal; before that I worked as a secretary for
    a management consulting firm; before that I worked as a chambermaid on
    Cape Cod for the summer; before that I got my degree from Mount Holyoke
    College (Seven Sisters school) in English and Psychology.  Before that
    is probably irrelevant for the purposes of this notesfile...  :-)
    
    I've lived in upstate New York (Rochester), midstate New Hampshire
    (Hanover), and north of Washington, D.C. (Gaithersburg, Maryland).
    I'm about to move again (in August) to Amherst, Mass., where I'll be
    studying human factors engineering full time for two years.  Big
    changes ahead after three years of calm.

I'm a Finance Manager in Commodity Services in Northboro, MA
(it's part of Corporate Admin).  My outside interests are
primarily playing sports.  After 3 years as Treasurer of the
Women's Basketball League, Gail (reply .44) will be taking over
(yeah!).  Lately I've also gotten interested in gardening and
other homeowner activities.  There certainly seem to be a lot of

I'm a software technical writer for CUP in Nashua.  Since August 1989, I've
been part of the Rdb/VMS documentation team in the Database Systems Group,
now at the NUO facility.  I'm about to begin my third year at DEC.

Though I'm a mostly read-only member of this notesfile, I have enjoyed 
meeting many of the Womannoters at parties and at the March for 
Women's Rights last April.  I continue to be enlightened and entertained here.

I share a two-bedroom apartment in Watertown, Mass. with my cat, Lucy.
(Need the space for my books.)  I'm not enamored of my 86 mile/day commute,
but at least the DEC van pool provides me a rational alternative to driving.

I love bird-watching, choral singing, ACC college basketball, 
science fiction, and a certain former DECcie (not necessarily in that order).

    i try to spend time in THREADS, and keep current in technical
    conferences related to courseware and products i am involved with.  i

    i appreciate the safe space this conference represents and will work to
    keep it that way, i.e. this is a special haven.  and a safety tank for

I'm Mary Vaskas, a Software Consultant in the San Francisco District.
Have been reading =wn= for several months now -- don't write much,
since just keeping up reading from various customer sites is hard
enough, but occasionally I'll have something to say that hasn't been
said more than once or twice already in the note string.

Meantime, I just enjoy the conversations, the thoughts, the community;
am most interested in political-type topics.

I'm a lesbian, living happily with my partner of 11+ years, no pets,
and a handful of plants, in Berkeley CA.

    I'm Karen Ballam, still (after 3+ years) working in Telecommunications
    Industry Marketing Group as Administrative Assistant.  I am mostly
    Read-Only (probably 75% Next Unseen), and don't usually manage to
    keep up with the prolific noting in this file.  If I come up with
    something I think might interest the community here I'll write, or
    if I simply can't resist commenting on something I'll reply, but for
    the most part I tend to be kind of quiet.  That could be partly
    because I don't have much time to Note in here, and partly because
    the ideas and comments fly so fast and furious I just kind of
    mutter to myself in agreement or disagreement as I read.

I've been at Digital for 4+ years, started as a Software Engineer I, got
promoted to Software Engineer II, and last year was promoted to Senior Software
Engineer.

I'm located in eastern Massachusetts.

I'm a graduate of RPI, computer science.  I'm married as of May 19th, 1990.

Quite early on, I learned that if you don't have an inner certainty about what
you can do (and what is _right_ to do), other people will tell you what you
*can't* do.

When I was 4, I attended a pre-kindergarten.  One day I came home and informed
my mom I was going to be a nurse.  My mom, who had no problem with that as a
job, asked curiously, why a nurse?  "Oh," said I.  "I really wanted to be a
doctor, but all the boys told me only men could be doctors."  And, I can still
remember how cheated I felt when mom told me that I could be a doctor...

...And, it t'were not a "role-model" issue.  The only doctors I had had up to
that point were women!

    I started with DEC eight years ago, as a Field Service Engineer, and 
    moved to Colorado Springs last year, to "Field Service Heaven".  (The
    pleasure of being able to do my job without driving hours on end or 
    carrying heavy kits hasn't worn off yet. :)  )
    
    In my life before DEC, I was in the Air Force, did design drafting, 
    was a secretary, and a few other assorted things.
    
    So far, I've been one of the "read-only" crowd.  But I thought it was
    time I introduced myself, and perhaps I'll be adding a thought here and
    there.

    	My name is Suzanne, and I'm a hardware Support Engineer with the
    	Customer Support Center in Colorado Springs.  
    
    	My specialty is Clusters, and I'm board-certified (Technical
    	Proficiency Review Board) to the T7 Level on VAXClusters and
    	VAX 8800's.  I've been with Digital for 8.5 years.
    
    	My B.A. degree is in Philosophy, from the University of Hawaii.
    	My specialty in the Philosophy department was Symbolic Logic and
    	Boolean Algebra.  I also taught college-level Poetry and Drama
    	for the English Department during my senior year (in the "Senior
    	Seminar Program,") and I won the Creative Writing Award the same
    	year (1976.)
    
    	I'm also working on a second Bachelor's degree (in Computer Science)
    	in preparation for work on my Masters in Computer Science.
    
    	My son Ryan is 19 now, and we have two cats (Woofer and Tweeter.)

I am Emmalee Tarry.  I work in Educational Services as one of two product
managers for VMS Training Courses.  I have been with DEC for three years.

Both of my children are "Finished Goods".  My son works for Delta Airlines in 
Atlanta and my daughter is in Medical School in Houston, TX.  I am divorced and
live in a two bedroom condo in Nashua, N.H. where I avoid all yard work and most
housework.

I think I was always a Feminist, but really got active with the founding of the
Women's Political Caucus in the early 1970's.  I worked for Legalized Abortion
before Roe vs. Wade.  

Since moving to New England 6 years ago I have become an avid "Bird Watcher" and
spend most of my weekends out tramping thru swamps and the like. I am a frequent
contributor to the Wild_Bird" notes.

I also like to swim and workout 4 times a week at The Athletic Club in
Merrimack.  I travel as much as possible.  Now days usually on bird trips.
I have been to Afghanistan, Kenya, Mexico, and Alaska.  I plan to go everywhere!
My trips for the next 3 years are already planned.

For the past year I have been taking a Spanish Class at Rivier College in
Nashua and plan to continue studying Spanish on my own until I can speak at
least a little.  Both of my children are fluent in Spanish and my son speaks
Portuguese as well.

I have lived in 8 states: Kentucky,Indiana,Texas,Hawaii, Virginia, Pennsylvania,
Massachusetts and New Hampshire.  

    Norma Jean Donahue, Field Test Administrator for the Secure Systems
    Group in Boxboro, Ma. Been with DEC for 17 1/2 years, 13 of which was
    in the manufacturing world. I am a graduate of Digital's Programmer
    Training Program (PTP 12).
    
    I'm married to a wonderful man I met through the SINGLES Notes file
    last year. We are excited about the fact that we are expecting our
    first child in October!!

    My name is Jackie Schwartzinger.  I have been reading this file (V2)
    for a while and when I desparately needed help....it came from all of
    you!
    
    I work in Elk Grove, Illinois (Chicago) and have been with DEC for
    5-1/2 years.  I am an Admin Sec to the Forest Products NASM, Tina.
    
    I live in Lake Zurich, Illinois with my husband George and my pride and
    joy Silver Buff Cocker Spaniel- Murphaven of Zurich (Murphy).

I am a mostly read-only reader.  I try to keep up with everything but I am 
always a couple of days behind.

I am a software engineer in Database Systems in NUO (Nashua) and I have been 
with Digital for almost 2 years (I came here a month after graduating from Smith
College).  Before that I was a co-op during my college vacations for a year.

I share my home in MA with my husband John and some crazy fish.  I am an 
American-born Indian married to an American-born Englishman.

I hope to keep up better in V3 than I did in V2 and maybe enter a note here and
there.

    Ruth LeBlanc, checking in!  I'm an Executive Secretary working in the
    Software Licensing Operations Group.  Have been with DEC for almost 10
    yrs. now.
    
    If any of you access the DEC_Secretary conference, you'll probably know
    my name!  I'm a casual reader and frequent replier!  As for
    Womannotes, I've peeked in the conference before, but never had the
    opportunity to really dig into it.  Hopefully this time will be
    different now that we're on a fresh V3 start!
    
    In DEC, I'm very active in career issues of DEC Secretaries.  Outside
    of DEC, I've got a gorgeous husband to whom I've been married for 12
    years (no children), I'll be graduating NEXT WEEK after completing my
    Bachelor of Arts with majors in Business and Psychology, and I'm
    generally looking forward to finding what ELSE I like to do now that
    I'll have the time to do it!

  Who Am I?

	Deborah A. Morrison, an Environmental Health & Safety Specialist (DEC 
        Temp Program).  Married to a digit (Atlant G. Schmidt), I honestly
        don't remember how long (that's probably a good sign).  One son, 
        A.J., Age 5.  

  What Do I Do?
  
	Currently working in APO (Andover, MA) in the Environmental
        Engineering & Industrial Health & Safety Group.   I support a group
	of 22 people made up of Chemical Engineers, Chemists, Industrial
	Hygienists, and Waste Treatment Technicians.  I perform various
	administrative secretarial tasks and other special project work.   

  What Have I've Done?

	Prior to having our son (1985), I worked for Digital for 8 years.
	I held various secretarial/administrative positions for a Field
	Service/CSSE organization.

	In 1983, I left Digital to start my own business, providing Word 
	Processing and document prep services in the Nashua, NH. area. 
	I even made it to the AVL (Approved Vendor List) here at Digital.
	The business was a success but I missed working with other people
	and didn't like being my own boss.  I learned quite a bit about
	myself and the things I REALLY like to do; it was a nice option
	while I was home with my son for 3 years.

  What Do I Like?

	Living with Atlant (though it is a challenge).
	Music, Reading, Ice-Skating, Sailing (as long as it's sunny out)!
	DECWrite (even though I'm just learning) and WPS (definitely a diehard
	and I make *no excuses*).
	South Hero, Vermont in the summer.  Lake Placid, New York in January.
	Watching my son grow-up.
	
  What DON'T I Like?
  
	"I'm not a computer person" -- (I hear this a lot in my current group)
	Sailing (in a thunderstorm)!
	People that settle.

  Misc:

	I am a strong pro-choice advocate; though I have never actually
	marched, *we* give a considerable amount of money to all the right
	(or should I say left) people/places.

	I'm mostly READ ONLY.  This file has certainly been an eye-opener.
	I hadn't realized how apathetic I had become with regard to issues
	relating to =wn=.  I have learned a great deal just by listening.

    My name is Lynne Sigel and I am a Administrative secretary at
    Transaction Processing Systems.  I have been with DEC for almost two
    years.  I am a graduate of Worcester State College, and studied TV
    production in college. I am a freelance video producer outside of DEC. 
    My goal is to get into Digitals fabulous video production house in the
    future.
    
    I am a very active noter, I like noting in Human Relations and Antiques
    and Collectibles.  I just stumbled upon Volume 3 today and am very

Whew, ten years at DEC!

A couple of weeks ago I received a cross pen and pencil set to mark
my ten years at DEC.  I started at DEC as a Financial Analyst, having
had a B.S. in Accounting and an MBA - it seemed like a logical thing
to do.  Midway through my DEC career I got a B.S. in Electrical 
Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute and went on to
to become a Component Engineer at LMO.  A very good opportunity took 
me into Commodity Management and now here I am at FXO, the Microprocessor
Business Manager.  I handle sourcing for $100M in externally sourced 
Microprocessors purchased worldwide.   I enjoy the content of my job
and do "just enough" travel to look forward to it.    

Outside of DEC I enjoy jogging, working out, bicycling and hiking.  I
also do different types of country crafts including stenciling and
silk floral arrangements.  My home is shared with a husband, two 
stepkids and two peachfaced lovebirds.

I was active in V1 of Womannotes but got tired of all the p*ssing
contests going on in V2 so I bowed out for awhile.  My frustration
was due to men telling women how they should and shouldn't feel,
or men telling women that discrimination didn't exist or men telling
women they should stay at home or that women in the workforce was the
reason that families, the economy (insert your favorite word here)
were on a path to hell. 
I also thought that it was somewhat odd that women's *feelings* would be 
challenged and invalidated so easily.  And sadly I had hoped that this
file might be a safe place for women - but that isn't so.  The person
in the next cubicle has also motivated me to get involved in this
notesfile - thanks Mike Zarlenga!  How can I stand by and let you 
spew forth such comments without question?  :^)

    I'm still an engineer in VMS, still married, and still enjoy playing
    fantasy role playing games.
    
    Since my first intro I've aquired a third cat; a brown tabby long
    hair named Max bringing the total to 3 cats and 2 dogs.  I've also
    taken up skiing and skating (both ice and roller).  I've become 
    more active and aware of feminist issues, and a lot angrier about
    them.  I read =wn= often, and will contribute when I think I can
    add something to the discussion.  Often someone has already said
    what I wanted only clearer, or the discussion doesn't feel safe 
    enough for me to speak freely.

	Hmm..haven't introduced myself here yet - I have an intro in
    V2 and not much has really changed since....

    	I'm Amy Goldman, a software engineer with Internal Special
    Systems at the Mill.  I've been with DEC for almost 3 years now, 
    started right after college.  My group does internal contracting
    work, so I get to work on various projects as they come up.  So
    far I've done mostly business application type work.  I'm also in 
    the MBA program at Bentley College, concentrating in MIS.

    	I recently turned 25, still single, and I have a lot of varied 
    interests/hobbies - more than I can keep up with!  Main ones these
    days are health & fitness, aerobics, music, reading (SF & Fantasy), 
    movies...and now that spring is here,  more outdoors-y activities.

    	I've been reading =wn= off and on for about two years, I guess.
    I read-mostly, but do write in now and then.  You can also find me
    in Friends, Human Relations, Mennotes and a few other conferences.

    Michele Peluso....I work in the Design and Evaluation Labs, in
    Northboro, for the Power Products area.  I am mainly read only in 
    *wn* but do participate in Feline, and Equitation....which involve 
    my favorite after DEC activities.
    

Carla Blazek, Administrative Assistant at the Application Center for
Technology in Bellevue, Washington.  I've just relocated, after living
for nine years in Colorado Springs, back to my homeland, the Pacific 
Northwest.

My dream is to open a women's bookstore with wood floors, enormous bay
windows to welcome both sunshine and lightning shows, soft incense, and
neverending shelves of books.  Cool wine, espresso, fresh fruit, and a
bevy of tables and comfortable chairs will be available.  Women will 
convene, interact, and resource with one another at my bookstore.  Oh, 
and hopefully they'll buy books, too!

I write poetry, paint, read whatever I can get my eyes on, and am very
supportive of my woman-identified Self.  Women-space is my haven.  The
longer I live, the stronger and more strident I become.  I experience 
life to its absolute fullest.  I'm not the least bit un-intense, and I
fill my life with strength, enthusiasm, passion, and fascination.

WOMANNOTES has taught me so much both about other women and myself and
I am proud to be a participant.

    I've been married for what seems like ages and have two small children
    that are my life.  My son, Jonathan is 2.5 and my daugther, Paige is 6
    months old.  
    
    I've been read only since I've been back from parental leave because it
    seems that this notesfile got a bit heated and a tad nasty awfully fast
    so I didn't want to bother.......

    I'm Clare Baggott, in Reading in the UK. I've 2 children aged 6
    and 7, a French au pair, and have been married for 15 years. I've
    been with Digital for 3 years.
    
    I'm currently struggling to find a role within Digital where I can
    pursue my interests in women's development issues, how the organisation
    manages change, valuing differences, individual empowerment...I'm
    active in the People First Programme in Reading, and in the national
    Working Mothers Association in the UK.
    
    Womannotes really helps and supports me, even though I'm mainly
    read-only. There are so many eloquent women here, that someone usually
    manages to put my feelings into words for me. It's so good to feel
    connected with others thinking the same thoughts, feeling the same
    feelings, experiencing similar frustrations, and continuing along
    the path...

    Kimberly Cancro, soon to change back to maiden name Campbell.  My
    friends call me Kim or Kimmy.  I am an Info Systems Spec working 
    at DDD in Nashua for Order Management Systems doing mainly Release
    Management.  I've worked at DEC for 4 years, started out as an
    Admin Sec. until last year.  Oh, yes, I am separated (1 yr) and
    28 yrs. old.
    
    I live in Amherst, NH with my two favorite men--Robert, 7, and Shane,
    5.  Also, my roommate, her daughter, three horses, a pony, three cats
    and two dogs.  It's chaotic but that's how I like it!  
    
    The past year has been a painful but wonderful year of self-discovery
    for me, and this file is also a discovery for me.  Have been read-only
    til today, and plan to contribute in the near future.
    
    In my spare time I enjoy writing, horseback riding, camping and

    Hi, my name is Debra, Debbie, (only my mother calls me Debra) Chatham,
    I am a Customer Services Engineer in Tallahassee Florida.
    
    I've been with DEC for 2 years and love it.......  In my part of 
    the country techinical women aren't taken very seriously, so the 
    opportunities DEC offers makes me feel like a queen.
    
    Before I came to DEC I worked for a small company giving techinical
    support to customers over the telephone, ie how to adjust a video with-
    out getting shocked!!!!!!!!!!!! Before that and Tech school I was
    a professional waitress on and off for 15 years.
    
    I am married to a retired lettercarrier and have two children.
    We also have 1 fish, 1 male cat 1 female cat and 3 kittens.  My
    at home interests are any kind of yard work (I call it therapy),
    cooking new types of food, horseback riding, bowling, fishing,
    dancing, needlework, home canning, and surviving until my children
    are gone.  I am a mello feminist.  
    
    I am a new noter and up until now a "read only", however I've enjoyed
    catching up with all of your notes till now and maybe when you

    I'm Roberta Davidson-Stratton and I now work as an Admin. Sec. for
    USMIBC at WJO.  I used to be an Admin. Sec/Dept. Coord. III for IST
    Training at BUO.  Married to Jim (EXIT26 or COGITO) Stratton and  have
    1 son BJ (soon to be 6 yrs old and going to school). We moved to North
    Chelmsford in September of 1989, so my commute to WJO is a lot easier
    than down Rt. 3 to BUO.
    
    My interests are cross-stitch, reading, camping, bike riding and being
    with my family and friends.  I'm a Sunday school teacher at the Central
    Congregational Church and a member of Chelmsford Women of Today.

    Hi.  I'm Margaret Russell.  I work as a technical writer in Littleton,
    MA in LJO2.  Been with DEC for 3-1/2 years.  Spent the first 2-1/2
    years in Nashua, NH at ZKO.

    Over the years my job description has varied.  I've mostly been a
    writer although I've also done editing, illustrating, been a lab
    technician, leather worker, craftsperson, factory worker, apple picker,
    waitress, cook, traveling saleswoman, typist, receptionist, actress,
    model, and radio engineer.   My life ambition is to be a salty old
    lady.
    
    This past winter I bought a house in Lexington, MA with my SO.  We
    moved in the end of January and almost six months later we are still
    unpacking.  Maybe we should have gotten a bigger house? It's been a
    struggle learning how to live with someone else as well as taking on
    all the responsibilities of homeownership.

    I'm enjoying having sunlight and big trees and watching all the bushes
    bloom and flowers appear.  Amazing how different a place looks in
    summer than in winter.

    We plan to add a puppy to our manage in the near future. 

    I am 38 years old, soon to be 39, I'm a Leo. Divorced, no children
    (although I still hope to have one or two), still in training to be a
    "tall, gorgeous blonde" (Hi, Tamzen! Yeah, you, the exotic mysterious
    brunette), and working on learning everything I possibly can.  
    
    I read voraciously, draw and paint, do a little antiques refinishing
    and repair, and travel whenever I can.  I've been over most of 1/4 of
    the Earth.  Lots more to see and do.

    I've been reading and writing in =wn= almost a year now, started (and
    introduced myself) in version 2. I open this notesfile whenever I need
    a break from work, care, worry; whenever womanspace can offer some
    solace, enjoyment, help.

    I joined DEC in 1984 as a DEC Tag Secretary.  After 13 months of
    Tagging in the same group, I was hired in on a permanent basis.  After
    only one month at DEC, I knew I didn't want to make a career out of
    being a secretary.  I took on the responsibilities of being the group's
    system manager and fought my way through prejudiced managers until I
    finally found one that would take a chance on hiring me into a 'real'
    system manager's job, given that I was 'only a secretary' (heavy
    sarcasm).
    
    Well, I've moved around a few times, doing system management for a
    number of organizations since then (1986) and it's time to move onward
    and upward.
    
    I'm about to partake in the pilot run of the STEP program; in a year
    and a half, I'll be a Software Engineer II working in the Core
    Applications Group in ZKO (Spit Brook Road, Nashua, NH).  I'm really
    psyched about it.  
    
    I'm very proud of myself for fighting as hard as I have to get where
    I'm going.  It's really great to have your goals becoming a reality.
    
    Outside my life at DEC, I am a wife of another DECcie and mother of a 7
    year old girl.  I am also a chinchilla breeder (for pets only) - so
    far, I've been a grandma twice and it really is a beautiful feeling to
    be one.  I'm a lead singer in a Top 40 rock band, along with my husband
    and three other DECcies.  I collect Popples.  I collect other small
    stuffed animals.  I'm in a ongoing struggle with my weight.  I play
    volleyball as much as possible (in LVL in the winter; play outside at
    lunch and after work during the spring/summer/fall).
    
    There are many familiar names/faces in this file and I hope to meet
    many more of you.  I'm not what you would call a feminist, but I tend
    to get feministic about certain things.  Given that I will be a
    professional student for the next year, my participation will probably
    drop off substantially (depends on how quickly I can get an account on
    my future job's systems).

    I'm Tuula. I have been working in DEC (Finland) for little bit more
    than 3 years. First I worked as a field service engineer, but now 
    in 1st April I changed my job and now I work as a software
    specialist in TSC. I'm 27 years old, not married, no kids, (boyfriend?
    -yes).
    I like to read this notes conference and I hope I have time to follow
    it in the future too. I haven't write any note here yet, but someday I

Susan Holmes (as if you couldn't have figured that out from the mail header);
have been with DEC for 10 years now, but only discovered the =wn= file a 
little over a year ago.  Have been read-only for the most part; would like to 
participate more -- just haven't gotten into the routine of regular notes use 
yet (never seem to find the time, as is the case with many of my interests.)

Speaking of which, mine include: cooking, needlework of all sorts (but mainly
counted cross-stitch and quilting for the last couple of years), antiques,
genealogy, local history, architecture (older structures, primarily), photo-
graphy, gardening (flowers and veggies), reading, music, animals, and far too
many more to mention here.  

Live in central Mass. (Paxton; 80 miles a day round-trip commute to AKO); 
married 13 years to a wonderful man (he'd have to be to put up with me!),
thinking of finally having a family (now that the countdown is on with my 
biological clock); already have two "kids" -- Tanya (a 75-pound female
German Shepard, who's the most georgous and gentle dog alive), and Fred
(a wonderfully independent feline who's half Siamese yet all black except
for about six white hairs).  

Active in my town; chair our local Historical Commission, and most recently
our 225th Anniversary Planning committee.  Also active in the Central Mass.
Postcard Club.  Involved in a full-time independent study degree program 
(where you actually get to design your own cirriculum, plan and execute
your own learning!)

In my spare(??) time, I try to remember to sleep and breathe; (a bit 
exaggerated perhaps, but I'm sure you get the point.)  Strangely enough,
I seem to like it this way...

Hope to be able to contribute some in V3 (and possibly make it to one of
the get-togethers so I can meet some of you in person). I've thoroughly 
enjoyed the discussions in =wn=; my thanks to those of you who have offered

    Beth Rust, 11-year DECcie, 38-year person (give or take a few months
    depending on your view of When Life Begins), presently writing software
    for the CDA (Compound Document Architecture) group in ZK2 (Nashua, NH).
    
    Likes: cats, My House, role-playing games, lead miniatures, noting,
    reading (with a special fondness for the eerie and/or gory), sofware
    engineering, the Celtics and (God help me) the Red Sox, artichokes,
    Celtic knotwork (I don't _do_ it, I just like to see it), and Inner
    Visions parties ;-),  plus other topics too numerous to mention. 
    
    Dislikes: gypsy moth caterpillars, telephones (OK, they're handy, but
    I'm not comfortable with them), repetitive arguments, tripe, raised
    voices and cutting words, and the way it takes less time for my joints
    to stiffen up and more for them to loosen as each year passes.
    
    I'm single, with one ex-marriage and no kids. I have a simply wonderful
    nephew who's six months old now, and for whom I intend to be a truly
    fascinating and eccentric aunt who will let him get away with all
    sorts of things that his parents would kill me for if they ever found
    out.
    
    I read =wn= because: I like and admire many of the participants (of
    both sexes); sometimes it's wildly funny; and, although I avoid many of
    the more, um, contentious topics, I do like to see what other views and
    ideas are out there.
    
    String I'd most like to see: a discussion, on any topic, in which none
    of the participants identified their sex. Wouldn't it be fun to talk
    about something without anyone saying "How would you know, you're a
    <x>"? The discussion would have to stand or fall on how well and
    logically the facts, suggestions, and opinions were represented...

    Okay, here's mine finally (I decided I wouldn't hog 2.1 this time)
    
    I usually called either Maggie or Meg and as you might suppose I'm very
    proud of my scots ancestry.  I'm first-gen american and my surname is
    the sassenach-ised version of Tairbeart, which means a portage in
    gaelic, significant perhaps of the fact that my family traditionally
    came to Scotland in the dragonships that were then hauled overland
    across the "tairbeart" to the next bit of water.
    
    I'm an engineering manager at GSB in Marlboro. and have been at DEC
    coming up on 6 years, til June all of it in Rainbow Group/PCSG in
    Littleton. I've 3 adult children and one grandchild scattered all over
    the country, am single, a psychologist by training, and I love cats
    (support 5 at present), traditional folk music, and virtually any asian
    food. 
    
    One of the accomplishments I'm proudest of is helping get our wonderful

    My name is Sam Smith, I work for Digital in Reading in England.  My job
    is in Project Management, I am currently Project Co-Ordinator for the
    Strategic Stocking Programme.  I have been doing this job for a year,
    and am slowly taking over more responsibility.
    
    I am 21 years old, recently married (so I'm still getting used to
    having a new name - my old one was Stockwell!), and very happy with my
    new husband, Andy.
    
    I started reading =wn= recently and find it very interesting - although
    I am not priveleged to actually start topics, I hope I can reply to

Hi, my name is Ulla.

I have been at Digital for two years.  Until a few weeks ago I was very
much a non-noter....  Then I discovered =wn=.  I'm still new to noting
etiquette and don't feel completely comfortable communicating in this
medium, but I'm learning.

And that's why I am here.  I graduated from Wellesley College a little
over two years ago.  While I was there I was lucky enough to share
diverse perspectives on life with thoughtful, confident women.
My experiences during that time made me a much stronger person.  That 
strength has carried my to where I am today, but along the way I feel
that a part of me got lost.  I have let life wear me down, and I am
hoping that by getting back in touch with the feelings that were so much
a part of my life in the past and by learning about how others view
the world, I will refine my direction in life.  I miss the strength I
derived from knowing what I thought and being proud of it.

My interests include skiing, knitting, rowing, singing, talking and thinking.
I work as a software engineer in the Mill, writing internal applications.
The thing I like about my job most is solving problems and working with
people.

    I'm Pamela (Pam) Pereira.  I work at DEC in Westborough MA.  I have
    been here for 3 wks. now working as a temporary in the Customer
    Service Group.  I am still learning the ropes.
    
    I graduated from Westfield State College in Dec. 1986.  I got married
    2 weeks later and am now separated and in the process of getting
    divorced (yeah!).  I have a 3 year old son named Nathan who is the
    light of my life.  I enjoy all crafts, poetry and spending time
    with my son.
    
    I hope to be at DEC long enough to become familiar with some of
    the people in w.n. and to become involved in some of the topics

    Hi, I'm Cathy Roberts soon to be Cathy Owens as soon as i'm divorced.
    I have been with Digital for 14+ years I was in Marlboro manufacturing
    for 10 years and now work for the Southern Mass IN-DEC Customer
    Service area as a Customer service engineer.
    
    I have two children Derek 5yrs and Stephanie 22mo.  They are what 
    keep me going through this trying time in our lives.
    
    I enjoy cooking and eating, working out when I get a chance, dancing
    every Friday (a rule I will always try to stand by) I love to sew
    I now have a new project it is a yamaha 400 motorcycle that needs 
    to be rebuilt (great winter project).
    
    I live in Stow MA. and currently work in Franklin, 31 miles form 
    driveway to parking space.  Thank goodness my car gets 48 mpg.
    
    I am interested in finding woman friends and hope this will be 
    the place.  As I have worked mostly with men all my life I have
    not learned to communicate with women very well.  I feel the need
    to build new friendships. (NEW! what am I talking about, for 6+

    Ma. No it's not on the planet Jupiter it's in the Western part of
    the state.   :-)   I am from Southern Calif but have been living
    here and working for DEC for the last ten years...or maybe its only
    been a matter of days.....so it seems anyway.
    
    I am a single parent and have a son who is 21 (no empty nest syndrome
    for me.)and am interested in a whole range of  topics to include,
    music,outdoors physically and metaphysically, indoors literally and 
    figuratively.  I enjoy canoeing,camping,writing,reading, just being
    and sharing the company of good friends.  I enjoy a sense of humor, 
    appreciate honesty and spontaneity. 
    
    I love the beauty of a child's face filled with wonder,a morning glory
    in full bloom, frosty nights, a blazing fire and the right person to

    I have placed a few notes here, and I guess they tell you who I am.
    
    I am a Friend (Quaker) by "convincement", a feminist (actually,
    humanist) by birth, and an acter by nature.  I dislike gender-specific
    suffixes (suffices?), as I really don't see the difference between a
    male "act-or" and a female "act-ress" - other than certain physical
    attributes that really have no bearing on acting talent!
    
    I have a wry, some might say unintelligible, sense of humor.  I read
    compulsively, primarily science fantasy.  I've been know to read three
    or four books in a weekend.
    
    There are countless other bits and pieces, as there are with all of us.
    I hope these will become clear as I note!  (And pray that I get to note
    for at least another six-month contract, okay?)

    I'm Bonnie Randall Schutzman, and I've been an off-and-on
    womannoter since the later stages of -V1.  When I'm writing a
    novel, I'm off.  When the creative well has run dry, I note. 
    Sometimes a lot.  When things become clear, I sometimes disappear
    without much notice.  
    
    I make my living as a technical writer in the CASE documentation
    group in ZK2.  I recently started working half time to have more
    time to write and to be able to be home when my middle child,
    Steven, gets home from first grade.  Eldest, Kat, is 16, dances,
    and gets As in everything, especially math (and shows up in my
    notes rather often -- think I'm proud of her? Nah.)  Youngest,
    David, is 11 months old and already has a wicked sense of humor. 
    Spouse, Neil, is a software developer, also in ZK.  Two cats,
    Reuben and Escher. 
    
    Main interests: larning how people live and love and interact,
    working for truth, discovering spirituality.  I'm a liberal
    feminist/humanist fundamentalist charismatic Christian who wants
    to say YES to God, not NO, STOP to other people, and live it in my
    life.
    
    When I'm not writing or working or being with my family, I do

    My name is Sharon Walker, and although I've written several notes
    in here and in V2, I've never introduced myself to date, probably 
    because I dislike boiling myself down to the list of adjectives 
    and phrase-long characterizations that introductions usually entail.  
    But I'm giving into peer pressure in the form of that message that's 
    appears at the top of the conference for months (on and off): "Have 
    you introduced yourself yet?"  Enough of the guilt pangs; I KNOW you 
    folks meant me.

    I work as a software engineer in ZKO, in the Commercial Languages 
    and Tools group.  My job is doing compiler development and maintenance 
    - BASIC, SCAN, and, more recently, COBOL.  I'm semi-notorious among 
    some members of my group for being a feminist, and I think I'm getting 
    feistier with each passing year.

    When I started trying to list my hobbies, I realized that I probably 
    don't do anything often enough to list it as a "hobby" on the Official 
    List, and that the truth of the matter is probably closer to this: in
    my spare time I try to avoid doing car maintenance and hand-washing
    sweaters.  Mechanisms for doing this include (but are not limited to)
    reading (I'm fond of magazines, autobiographies, and Stalin-era Russian
    literature), watching movies, weightlifting, writing, downhill skiing, 
    listening to music, baking, hiking, figure skating, sailing, kite flying,
    talking on the phone, traveling, and "doing dinner".  I also chew glass,
    and may learn to blow lovely blown-glass bubbles with it someday.

    In this fashion, I have avoided hand-washing one particular sweater 
    since 1987, a year before I moved from Pennsylvania (where I was
    working on my MA in Russian, among other things) to New Hampshire
    and started at DEC.  I have been a little less successful in avoiding
    car maintenance.

    Hi, my name is Sheri Smaller. I think I introduced myself in V2,
    but can't quite remember. I was a read-only then and still am for
    the most part.        
        
    I'm 26 years old, but act about 19. I refuse to grow up. I think
    that having a good time is one of the most important things in the
    world. 
    
    I'm really into music and like all kinds (except for country-western).
    The last two records I bought were Concrete Blonde "Bloodletting"
    and 2 Live Crew "Nasty As They Wanna Be" (I had to get it....didn't
    find it offensive at all, but I do have a sick sense of humor).
    
    I've been with DEC for nearly 6 six years, spending much of my time
    as a technical writer. Just recently, I've taken a new job with
    ESDP as a technical editor.
    
    I'm into education....have a BA in English and Linguistics and an
    MS in Management. 
    
    I also like reading, writing poetry, theatre, film, and meeting

Hi all! I'm Laurie and I'm a Senior Software Engineer in the ISB group
working on the Cirrus project. I'm been at DEC for a little over a year and
I love the environment here! I've been doing a tiny bit of reading in
WOMANNOTES for a few months but this is the first opportunity I've had to
enter anything. 

On a personal note, I'm 27 and share a house with my two cats (or kids as I
sometimes refer to them), Dr. Zhivago and Cocoa.  The past two years of my
life have been an incredible turning point in my life. I've really come
into touch with who I am and have found a strength and sexuality that I
didn't know I could ever possess. 

I divide my free time between doing things with myself and doing things
with friends/lovers/family. I find I'm happier when I spend several hours a
week doing things on my own. In my free time I love doing adventure-related
things such as traveling. I love traveling and exploring new areas. I've
traveled all over the USA and I'm hoping to go on a 3 week canoe trip next
year down the Yukon River in British Columbia. The next adventure I have 
planned is doing "Wimmin's Weekend" down in P-town Oct. 13,14.  Anyone else 
going to be down there that weekend?

Creative writing is another thing I love to do in my free time. I'm taking
a "Scriptwriting" class at Emerson College in Boston right now and I love
it. The script I'm working on has a strong womyn as the main character!

    I'm Kathy Malewicz, Customer Program Manager in the Boeing Business
    Group in Seattle Washington.  Have been reading this notes file
    for the past month and thought I should sign in.
    
    Very interested in the advancement of woman in business so have
    enjoyed the Seattle area immensely.  This is the first State I've
    lived in where the State has a law on the books that says a certain
    percentage of all State contracts is to be given to woman or minority
    firms.  This has some pros and cons but I've seen mostly the pros.

    I'm Polly Strife.  I've been with Digital for close to 12 years, most
    recently managing public policy for Corp. Environmental, Health &
    Safety. Right now -- until the advent of MSO2 -- I hang out at CFO2.  
    
    I've been a single parent since Stacy, my 21 year old, was 3.  Stacy's
    a senior in college and, with the exception of financial help like
    tuition etc., pretty much on her own.
    
    A few years ago I went back to school nights and got my JD.  I've
    practiced parttime for the last 5 years, mostly "domestic relations".
    I'm now limiting my practice -- want a life that isn't all work -- to
    representing children in abuse/neglect cases.  Well, that's not
    entirely true, I do some other work for friends and old clients.    
    
    Although I check into some of the other conferences, this is the only
    one I consistently read and particiapte in.

History:
I am a re-run DIGIT.  My first real job was with DIGITAL in Houston, Tx.
I was a secretary to software support.  I transferred to DIGITAL Maynard
(what a garden spot that was - but anything is better than Houston climate)
and worked as a secretary, software technical writing QA person (make sure
our documents make sense)...and finally, a computer operator on the PDP-10
(a woman has NEVER done that here - but, if you insist, you got the job.
I insisted).  I stayed in Maynard 4 years and snapped.  Couldn't face another
winter and NEVER wanted to drive in Boston again as long as I lived...and
NO MORE ROTARIES.  Therapy has helped alot.

I jumped ship and came to Silicon Valley where I worked for many years
before being hired BACK at DIGITAL as a software support specialist.  I am
now an experienced FORTRAN/COBOL programmer, ex-systems programmer (rusty
at my MACRO, BLISS) and project mangler.  My current title is, I think,
principle specialist or something....I'm not big on titles.

I'm 43 years old, delightedly single (men are some of my best friends, but
aren't terribly interested in being more...and I learned to love my privacy
so much over the years that it is just fine with me).  I am a sucker for
cats - living with 5.

    For the past year and a half, I have been working for Digital on
    the SMARTS Project in Federal Way, Washington.  My role has changed

    developed)
    
    My interests include traveling, cooking, reading, and just about
    anything outdoorsy.

    I worked for Digital from 1984-1989 in the Education/State and Local 
    Government group.  I left in July 1989 to spend time with my children, 
    to do some writing and to work on my MBA part-time.
    
    I've managed some of each.  I liked being home (though I missed =wn=).
    I've been back as a contractor (writer) since early October and have enjoyed
    being here, though I'm not anxious to make any long-term commitments.
    I still want the time to pursue other, not so lucrative interests.  
    
    On a personal level, I'm 32 (for two more days!), have a wonderful
    husband named Paul and two beautiful daughters named Caileigh (almost
    4) and Paige (almost 2).

Hi All,

After participating for a bit, I realized that intro notes (and others) are
continually being accessed.  Forgive the rudeness in not introducing myself
before this point.

I am in Ft. Lauderdale in a "new work" group called the MCU - Manufacturing
Consulting Unit.  We basically deliver (design, implement, etc.) CIM solutions.
We work with Sales and E.I.S. and have thus far been successfull.

This is my second time around at DEC - arrived in October '87.  My entire
previous DEC life from 75-80 and up to last May has been spent in the
Westfield facillity.  I have worked everything from a forklift to being an
MSPM for enclosures.

There are many of you for whom I've grown an abiding respect - this conference
is a blessing for me.  Hope that sometime I'll meet some of you.

Now for the hard part - I've noticed many Barbs and BJs, so I'm not sure 
exactly how to sign.

Any suggestions?

I've been enjoying the benefits and overflowing warmth from =wn=
without properly introducing myself. (Slap of wrist)  But I have
a good excuse, I just discovered /since.  Isn't that great!  Well
what do you expect from a Digital/Notes nubie.

I moved from San Diego to the Chicagoland area in April and joined
Digital EIS in May. I am sooo enjoying winter, let me tell you. ;-)
My divorce was final yesterday - Yeah, and my 2 kitties and I are doing
just fine.  Partially thanks to E Grace and others' abundance of hugs.
And BTW, once the system catches up my name will be POBOX::AMAY or
something like it, since my brother already has POBOX::MAY.

I've spent the last 10 years in the PC arena and now I feel like I've
joined the grown-ups.  Actually that's just my frustration from trying
to translate from one world to another.  It's kinda wierd now, when I
use a PC, and can't use the up arrow or recall.  Well such is life.

Even though most of you are on the East coast (which I'll be out to
in 3 weeks) I'm looking forward to putting my 2 cents in and getting
10 cents back!

    I'm married to John, no living children and 1 persian cow (holstein cat) who
    is furry bundle of joy.  I snow ski, do aerobics, weights and swim.  I
    used to instruct gymnastics and someday want to get back into it.

    My name is Pam Sanford and I've been with DEC almost 3 years now. I
    started out as a Supervisor of Operations working in the then DIS org.
    Now I'm called an Information Systems Specialist working in the now
    IM&T org. in Landover, MD. Hard to keep up with peoples titles, especially
    when they change 'em every 18 months! I'm fairly new to Notes, I knew they
    were available but could never seem to find the time to read any of them,
    much less reply back to 'em. I seemed to always pick the ones that hadn't 
    been accessed in over a year or so. FRUSTRATION!!! I can't believe I
    finally found one that's active!
    I was recently divorced in May 1990, FINALLY! No kids but I have 3 cats
    whom I refer to as my brats! Samantha, Simon (Mother and son) and Semi.
    My SO has recently moved in with his dog Caleb (thank the Lord he
    didn't bring his birds too!) and for a 1 bedroom apartment it's kinda
    getting crowded. Looking forward to reading/listening/replying/helping
    etc...

    myself. I am Helen McGrath working as a Tech writer for an ULTRIX group
    in Reading, England. I have been with DEC for 18 months before which I
    studied English and Russian at the University of Sussex. I'm 25, going
    on 26.

Okay, I've been a NEXT/UNSEEN =wn='er for about six months now, and
I'm feeling guilty because I haven't introduced myself yet, so here
goes:

My name is Janice Cassin.  I've been working for Digital since 4/86,
and love it here.  I work in the External Consulting Group of Corporate 
User Information Products (CUIP).  For the past 3 years I've been
a Product Training Manager, providing Customer Services with training
on third-party products Digital services.

My Digital office is in Merrimack, NH, but my project keeps me traveling
(local and throughout the U.S.) most of the time.  I also own a home
in Merrimack--which I find amusing because I grew up in this town, and
the biggest ambition of all local kids was "to get out of Merrimack".
I did get out, during my college years, and while owning a home in New
Boston for three years.  But I sold the NB house because I couldn't
stand the commute, and moved back to Merrimack.  Although I've seen
a lot of this country, I never did move far away from my birthplace,
Nashua, NH (1960).  I do love New England.

I have a BS in Management, an AS in Computer Programming, and I'm currently
seeking my master's in Computer Information Systems at Rivier College
(I *love* learning!!).  I like to ski, swim, cook, listen to music, sew,
dabble in interior decorating, among other activities.  :-)  I have a 14
year-old cocker spaniel, no cats, no kids, and a great life.

I'm Debbi Lane.  I've been with DEC for almost 5 years.  I'm working at 
AKO in Acton as a programmer for Corporate Finance.

I've been in an out of womennotes for years.  When things get to hot and there 
is too much arguing I usually leave for awhile, but I always come back.  I've 
learned so much and become so much more aware of things from some of the notes 
in here!

    Hello, I promised someone I'd like to consider a friend that if we got
    the file back, I would 'fess up and sign in, so, here goes:
    
    My name is Heather Allison and I've worked at Digital for 13 years in
    various capacities.  Currently, I work for the Engineering for
    Distributed Systems group under TNSG in LTN1-2.  We are doing CALS/
    Concurrent Engineering work.  I am an Operations Analyst for the group,
    better known as the "cheif cook and bottle washer" function!  My
    responsibilities include handling capital assets, personnel issues,
    communications, training and program management for the various
    pieces of our group.  I'm just starting out in this particular function
    and am pretty excited about the directions the group is going in, and
    my role within it.
    
    Prior to this, I was the Telecommunications and Space Planning Manager
    for the MSB organization, covering the 4 BXB/LTN sites.  Now, of
    course, there isn't too much space planning going on!
    
    I've been a RON in this file for well over a year now.  I enjoy the
    interaction in the file, as well as the many viewpoints expressed on
    the issues which are of importance to me.  I may still be mostly read
    only, since someone always manages to say what I would have much better
    than I ever could, long before I ever get around to putting something
    in - But, I will try!

    I'm Judy Blachek, a technical editor in ZKO who's been at DEC for a    
    little over 7 years.  Right now I'm working on some ALL-IN-1 MAIL
    projects, and a bunch of version 1.0 projects that are in development.
    
    I have lived in Nashua, NH for the past 8 years, but before that lived
    in Pennsylvania, Kentucky, and New York.  I was married to an IBMer
    (ugh!) and we moved a lot.  Now I'm married to a fellow DECie (a
    writer also in ZK, John Paolillo).  We have a 9 month old daughter, who
    is teaching us a lot about life.  (Like to enjoy uninterrupted activity
    when we get it.)
    
    Most of my spare time goes to the National Organization for Women.  I'm
    the president of the New Hampshire chapter...we have about 1600
    members.  I guess this makes me a glass-spitting feminist in most
    people's eyes.  :-)  
    
    I've been an evolving feminist over the past 10 years. I'm sure I'll
    get even more so as time goes on.  I'm getting angrier about things,
    and happy with that, if you know what I mean.
    
    I've been involved in =wn= for the entire time it's been around.  But
    mostly read-only, cause I couldn't keep up with it any other way.  I
    hope to be a little more active.  I feel so connected to other
    feminists because of this file and hope to meet some of you sometime.

    the commute crazies have won out - i am now a full time Mountain
    Resident (for fellow quakies, yes, I even drove with a Mountain
    Resident pass during the aftermath of the 89 quake to get up the hill
    and home).  we are in Loma Prieta, and expect some construction
    activity to finally begin this spring, replacing and reinforcing
    foundations. 
    
    the positive stress of adjusting to not having my own apartment and not
    living alone anymore is "interesting" - maybe if all the boxes were
    unpacked i would feel slightly different!  
    
    packing and unpacking, i have gone through everything, taking stock of
    whether the item belongs in my life at this juncture!

    Well, since I've put a couple of notes in here, I might as well
    let you know who I am! :-)
    
    I'm Debbi working way out here in Westfield, MA (yes, it's on the
    other side of 128 :-)  ).  My official title at the moment is 
    Electronic Tech I.  I've been at DEC for 16 1/2 years, all at 
    Westfield.  I started as an assembler and took advantage of the 
    technical courses offered back in the 70's.  I was one of the 
    first group of women techs here at Westfield, and have seen first
    hand the subtle discrimination we've gone through.  Simple example:
    A few of the entry level techs that I've *trained* over the years 
    are now engineers!  I suppose that should make me proud?! ;-}
    
    Anyway, with the situation here around the downsizing, I will no
    longer be a Tech in the next few weeks.  Here at Westfield the 
    electronic work is all leaving and the Metal fabrication business
    is expanding---so, that is where we have to get jobs.  As of maybe
    a month or so from now, I will be a Sheet Metal Mechanic!!  Quite a 
    switch, huh!  Well, it's a job. I just have to make sure all my 
    fingers stay intact. :=)
    
    I've been involved out here with the Valuing Differences program.
    We have a group trying to deal with g/b/l issues.  We were the first
    DEC site to have a panel discussion on gay issues.  Maybe you saw 
    the video, I heard it was very popular!
    
    As you might know from other notes, my personal life is in turmoil 
    right at the moment.  But I hope to get through it soon and land 
    on my feet.
    
    Thanks to everyone for the support and I hope I can turn that around

    Sorry I didn't sign in here before creating a basenote.  Anyway. . .
    
    I'm a Tech Writer in Littleton.  I write manuals, etc. for the IBM
    Interconnect products.  I LOVE networking and always have.  I've had a
    varied career, going backwards:  trainer, course developer, field
    pre- and post-sales support, sales, and varied jobs in writing
    including working as a newspaper reporter.
    
    Networking is fascinating and all my computer industry jobs have had a
    focus in this area.  It is a male-dominated field, and I have been able
    to hold on and be perceived as "technical".  I have lots of funny
    stories about it.  At one point I had to haul a heavy tape machine
    around New York City to prove to the boys that I had the right stuff. 
    A singularly stupid exercise, but my persistence won out.  I believe
    that you don't have to be the best, just the one who didn't give up.
    
    I enjoy the NOTES files; you'll see me in others.  Participating helps
    me warm up to work in the A.M. and provides a diversion when writing
    indexes for manuals threatens to put me to sleep.  It's great to be
    part of global communities.  This is the sweet fruit of networking.
    
    I'm a working mother.  (Is that a lucky thing? Or not?  Depends on how
    much sleep I got the night before.)  I live in New Hampshire with my
    husband Bill, an electrician/engineer/entrepreneur, baby Ilona Marie,
    and a hound dog. 
    
    I learned about feminism during the Columbia U. student strike in 1968
    (or was it '67?).  I was in an early working class consciousness
    raising group.  I'll never forget about the shock of recognitions. 
    Maybe too much of an anarchist at heart, but I've never been very
    active in NOW or other organized politics.  
    
    As a new working parent, I've come to a sad realization of the lack of
    legislative support for us in the USA, compared to Europe, Canada,
    Japan, and elsewhere.  In the USA there is NO policy on maternity or
    parental/family leave.  Very little support for daycare, including tax
    relief.  It's a very hard row to hoe.  With my fellow baby boomers, we
    are up to our ears in work, family care, and sheer survival.  I hope
    that as we age, we can engender a paradigm shift in US politics to make
    this a more livable country for people.

    I've been reading without introducing myself, and I'm not crazy about
    feeling like a voyeur, so here goes.
    
    I'm June Lemen. Lemen is pronounced like "lemon", even though it's a 
    bastardization of Leminskis, a Lithuanian handle. I'm a writer here
    at DEC, currently documentation project leader for DECforms. 
    
    I'll probably be read-only most of the time, because I'm starting to
    feel that all I ever do is write. Write for DEC, write for the Nashua
    Telegraph, and write for myself. Reading is a nice change of pace, and
    I enjoy hearing what everyone has to say.
    
    Besides writing, I am a newlywed for the second time, I own an enormous
    and ever-growing sable merle collie named Buffer, and live in a cottage
    on the banks of the Souhegan River in Merrimack, New Hampshire. I am
    anxiously awaiting spring---I get very cranky during that dangerous
    time in New England when it's too early to garden and too late to play

    Hello Folks!  I've been read-only here for a while, have decided to
    stay, so here is an intro.
    
    I'm Nancy Jean Burkholder.  I live in Weare, New Hampster where I share
    my home in the woods with two cats, Miranda and Emily, and an
    assortment of tropical fish.  In spite of a 42 mile commute, I love
    country living and couldn't imagine living south of the border. 
    Lately, well, for about the past two years, my primary interest has
    been me.  With a lot of help and support from friends (thanks, Laura!)
    and the program of AA, I've discovered that I really can live on this
    planet without drugs and alcohol...and enjoy being here to boot! 
    Amazing.  It's taken me a while to get the hang of life (I'm 38) but I
    really think I belong here...for now at least!
    
    Discovering my spirituality is a big chunk of my life right now.  It's
    so easy for me to get dazzled by things that happen "out there" and
    forget who I am and why I've come.  Then the pain of separation reminds
    me that I've moved out of the center of my life.  Anyway, maybe that's
    all kind of abstract but it feels real to me.  
    
    Be that as it may.
    
    My other interests include home remodeling and construction, music
    (womyn's and popular rock), skiing (both kinds), a Yamaha Virago 750,
    building stone walls, hiking and camping, and the occasional foray into
    Cambridge to visit New Words or see a performance.
    
    In my other life I am a software principal engineer with VMS in Nashua,
    New Hampster.  Have been with Digital for almost four years.  My
    current assignment, hopefully soon to be past, is project leader for
    the User's Environment Test Package, the VMS installation/verification
    collage.

    After being read only and write active for over 4 years it's
    about time I say something about me.
    
    Jean Allison Parent, Allison to most everyone.  Native of Long 
    Island (pronounced loong Guylund) New york.  I've lived in the
    the uncommonwealth of Massachusetts for about eleven years, I 
    love New England.  Living near Boston is great for some of the
    things I like, theatre and eating.
    
    I'm a analog hardware engineer who got hooked on computers.  I also
    speak software and systems when I need to.  I've spent seven years
    with DEC working for CSSE doing some sort of engineering (mostly
    project management) while trying to hold onto my engineering skills.
    The result of this I'm about 7 years behind the engineering technology
    curve.  
    
    I love to build things and see things grow so my hobbies include
    gardening, computers (I design them), household construction
    (another name for remodeling), woodworking.  My grand passion is
    flying.  The Cessna and I have been to some of the garden spots
    like Missisippi, Wisconson, some neat spots like Block Island
    the vinyard, Provincetown, and Danbury Conn (great mall next to
    the airport).  A big favorite for me is North Hampton.  It's not
    always the destination that makes it fun, it's the getting there.

    Well, lots of changes since I wrote my introduction almost a year
    ago.  (Gee, I actually typed agog instead of ago, maybe I should
    have left it.)
    
    I've gotten married to my SO.  He is still my SO but now he has
    the singular honor of also being my husband and I am honored to
    be his wife.  I took his name.  In MA, there is a space on the license
    to fill in your name after the marriage.  (The space is provided
    to both parties.)  We'd discussed it, and I finally decided
    that I like Jim a lot more than I liked my father, so I wrote down
    Jim's surname.  It will probably be months before I've finished
    all the paperwork that decision entailed! 
    
    I'm glad we married.  Although I admit we eloped on Groundhog Day,
    figuring if we saw our shadows and got scared, we could always
    go back to six more weeks of being single. :^) 
    
    The marriage is responsible for many of the changes and the outgrowth
    of others.  I hope it will continue to change my life and bring
    new experiences.  I seem to have found a good partner to both weather
    and enjoy change.
    
    We got the puppy in September, he's now an almost-dog.  Gone from
    8 pounds to 53 pounds and still growing.  He's an English Setter,
    mostly white with both black and orange-brown spots.  We call him
    Parker, after the Minuteman statue which is modelled on Militia
    Captain John Parker who fought the British in April of 1775, right
    after Paul Revere did his famous ride.  Parker-puppy is a delight,
    mostly, and a worry, sometimes.               
    
    Defined that way, he's a good metaphor.  Mostly I keep my wits about
    me and enjoy him as the wiggly pup he is.

Thought I'd better introduce myself before I wrote anywhere else;  people
might confuse me with another ::HETRICK who notes here. 

I started reading here a while ago because of the topics discussed here,
and decided to stay because I liked the way things were discussed.  For
the most part, everyone seems respectful of each others' opinions and
feelings and very supportive.  Since I've been going through some very
difficult times in both my professional and personal life lately, hearing 
supportive voices has been very helpful to me, even though I haven't
been part of the discussions.

As for some background about me:  Professionally, I'm a participant
in a financial training program and currently the sole (and somewhat
lonely) financial support for a couple of marketing groups in Marlboro.
I graduate from the program in May, and will begin looking for a
permanent job in DEC then.  Personally, I live in a small apartment 
with one charming feline roommate, Rubbles, whose greatest joy in life
is applying a portion of her luxurious fur coat to the legs of anyone's
pants who happens to enter her domain, especially if those pants happen
to be dark and show off her hair to special advantage.  I enjoy reading,
horsebackriding, skiing, cycling, walking, traveling, spending time with
friends and family, music, art, poetry...and too many other things to 
list in an introduction. 

I'll probably be read-mostly with an occasional contribution.

My name is Wendy Elizabeth Hotchkiss Carboneau.  I'm mostly read-only,
and generally think of more things to say than I actually do say.  I
am a special needs single parent.  That is, I have a 10 year old boy
who currently attends a residential school for kids with behaviour
disorders, a 12 year old daughter with physical disabilities who is
mainstreamed.  

I am a secretary in MRO2, currently job-hunting, as mine is "going
away."

The reading I have been doing in here is causing me to do a LOT of
thinking.  That is why I am here.  To learn more about myself, the
world I live in, and my role in it.  I find, in retrospect, that most
of the mistakes (the big ones, not the little ones) I have made in my 
life were due to my buying into the limitations put on my gender by
society.  Like not going to college cuz I was going to get married and
have babies.  Well, the "having babies" part of it was the only thing
I was ever really sure I wanted to do, and I'm glad I did.  But,
"society" never told me I was going to have to support them too.  My
ex could not keep a job and someone had to bring in a paycheck.  But
without the education, well, most people seem to equate education with
intelligence.  Tain't necessarily so!  How does a single parent with
no relatives in the area manage to go to school while working full
time?  If anyone has the answer, I would love to hear it, I really
would.  As it is, my kids feel that they would like more of my time.
So, when they are grown, then I will be able to go to school.

I have found that by reading in here I am learning a lot about these
limitations I bought into, and some I never even noticed.  Though it
seems I should have.  I thought it was just me that these things were
happening to, not women in general.  Like getting myself into
positions where I took more and more responsibility onto myself in
hopes of getting the job title to match the work I was doing.  Three
times I have gotten the shaft that way.

Though I have never met most of the people who note here, I feel that
I would really like most of the women here.  But, (gawd, I hate saying
this, cuz I hate feeling this) *some* of the men who chose to note
here _really_ p!ss me off!  And I question their motives for being
here.

So, this is me.  I rambled longer than I intended and revealed myself
more than I intended.  I will say a word now and then when I am
feeling brave enough.  (This is not fear of this file, this is my own
self-protectiveness and need for privacy)

No matter what *anyone* else says, I think this is a wonderful file!

    My name Heidi Crisler.  I've been with DEC since 8-8-74.  I started
    out as the first female machinist DEC ever hired (EEO you know).
    I'm now an Engineering Project Tech.  I've been working in Colorado
    for a little over 4 years.  I'm orginally a Bostonian (in and around).
    I miss the ocean and am actively looking for employment closer to
    the coast.
    
    More personaly stuff.  I'm a lesbian, been one all my life.  I live
    with my S.O. (Ellen), of 4+ years.  I have a son (Joey) that I
    co-parent with his other Mom (Doreen), he's 15.  We have a dog 
    (Molly), two cats (Mr. Whitney and Harvey).  Oh and I'll be 35 in
    about 2 weeks.  My politics are definitely glass chewing and spit
    as hard as you can.
    
    I like to play golf, garden, woodwork when I have the time.  I'm
    also a volunteer at the local AIDS home.  And I bartend at the

8 months ago I moved from LA to Sacramento and I think I traveled back 5 
years in time.  I'm still working on developing my network of people who 
have similar interests.  This conference has been great and has really 
helped keep me touch with the issues of our sex!  I didn't know there 
would be such a big change in moving to a much smaller city.

I'm Nina Edmondson, Salesperson, in Sacramento.  I've been with Digital
for 4 years selling to government and primes.  Love my job!

I'm 44 years old, childfree, and married 12 years.  My husband, Paul 
Raveling (he kept his last name), is a software engineer with a small 
software company.  I have 1 cat, Puff, who is 18 years old and has been 
through all my trials and tribulations with me.

Interests include personal growth, reading, skiing, camping, hiking,
railroading, gardening, and furniture refinishing.

    Hello everybody.  My name is Mary Anne Tewksbury.  Software engineer
    for PCSP, working at LJO2.  4 years with the company, background is
    in network hardware and communications.  
    
    I've been reading with great interest for a while now, will probably
    just continue to be a read-only, unless something really gets to me.
    I've met some of you wonderful people and I think this is an
    interesting conference.
    
    I'm a Yankee, originally from Connecticut.  Have a varied background.
    I've been a machinist and crawled around on nuclear submarines. I was
    also a telephone operator, an office clerk, and I enjoyed a 9-year
    "career" in Human Services before I went back to school.  I am also
    a Vietnam-era veteran of the Army.  Needless to say, I have some
    real feelings about a lot of women's issues.

    I guess it's about time I intro myself here. Corinne Fletcher, I do
    electronic publishing for Southeast District Proposal Team, Atlanta,
    Ga.  5 years with DEC.
    
    Mostly read only - only reply when something really "strikes" me. 
    Although I enjoy working for DEC, this is only my job.  My career is
    counseling young people - runaways/street kids, and potentials.  Also
    talk to parents to try and open their eyes to what is out there -
    parents tend to wear very thick, very dark rose colored glasses when it
    comes to their kids.  Also work a bit with grown ups.
    
    I've had a rough life in the past, but no regrets - all experiences
    have contributed to make me the person I am, and I like that person.
    I had a very disfunctional family life as a child and teenager, was a
    got too close to committing suicide more times that I can count while I
    was living with them - fear had nothing to do with holding back.  There
    was simply something left inside that knew there was something worth
    living for, somehow.  Was a runaway, lived on the streets for a few years, 
    was in a short (luckily) abusive marriage (divorced in 86).  
    
    Now I'm a healthy, happy, healed person. 28, single, no children, dating a
    neat guy, pets are 9 fish and two frogs in my fish tank, and lots of 
    plants.  Write poetry, draw, cook, bake, listen to music (boyfriend's a 
    musician), read lots of history, sociology, classic novels, poetry. Am 
    about to start learning  how to renovate houses!  Going to be helping
    some friends renovate an 120 year old house, which we will be using for
    a couseling center. Looking forward to learning about this stuff.  I'm
    already hearing lots of interesting things (Gee, there's a spot on the
    roof that needs checking, and you're the only person small enough to go
    up there safely... Gee, there are some joists that need repairing, and
    you're the only one who is small enough to.... Gee, the crawl space
    under the house is really small.....)  It's gonna be an adventure
    (luckily, several of them are experienced in this stuff).

    I enjoy photography and I love to travel.

    successful.  I am now working as a Customer Administrator at IND,
    moving to SHR sometime this summer.

    been with Digital for 10 years in various positions -- all in the
    field.  Right now, I'm the Sales Support manager for the Southwest
    Volume District.

    I've been read-only for a short time in this conference and from time
    to time have wanted to reply, but didn't think it was polite without an
    introduction.  I couldn't figure out whether to reply here or in note
    4.  Hope this is the right place. 

    I hope I'll have something to contribute.  I'm a battered veteran of
    the feminist movement of the 60's and 70's, divorced (EX-battered wife
    (I can't believe I can say that so casually now)), four kids (21-30)
    and three grandkids.

Hi,

I'm Bonnie Lou Hussian. I work thru an agency for Digital. I'm "just" (I hate
when people put that word in front of my title) the Receptionist at the MRO4
Building in Marlboro, MA. I've been here for a year & a half, and really 
enjoy my job (most of the time).

I'm 22 (twenty three in a couple of days) years old. I've been supporting
myself since I was 16 years old, when I decided to get my High School diploma
early & get a job. Once I had these things, I just couldn't live w/ Mom & Dad
anymore. I was "too" independent. I'm on better terms now w/ both of my parents
than I ever have been, and I don't regret having gone this route.

I'm looking forward to some formal education, but for now (during the bad
financial times) I spend a good deal of time reading at the library. I don't
plan to be a receptionist forever!! I want to go into the hospitality industry,
in either hotels or meetings planning. I have no experience in either field,
but I do have a solid background in customer service/support. There's a start.

I live with a WONDERFUL man and two cats. His name is David. My girls are 
Callie & Tabitha. We have a fabulous home life, and it's really very important
to both (all four, I should say!) of us. Having survived a few abusive & 
completely INSANE relationships, and spent some time ALONE, I've realized 
EXACTLY what I want in a man, and have not settled for less! I never do. Dave
is my BEST BEST BEST friend. We love _and_ like each other very much. We enjoy

    Hi everyone,
    
    I'm Carole Fretts....somewhat new to =womennotes and somewhat of an
    oldtimer to notes.  I work as a Business Operations Support Specialist
    (probably the only way I'll ever be called a BOSS ;^)) doing project
    management for the South East Atlantic Financial Management Center in
    Shrewsbury (SHR1).  My life's work is comprised of astrology, healing
    (people and the earth), attuning with nature (hope to learn dowsing 
    sometime in the near future), and communicating with animals (this is 
    a new endeavor and is lots of fun!).  I love rituals and ceremonies of 
    all types, and really enjoy drumming and rattling (Native American and 
    African mostly).  Most of my time and energy is spent learning about
    myself and the world around me.  I enjoy esoteric and higher
    consciousness subjects and always have at least 5 books going at the
    same time!  I would also like to know more about the healing properties
    of stones/minerals, herbs, and flower essences.
    
    I live with my partner Mike and 5 animal friends - Muffin our dog
    and 4 cats (Amber, Buster Brown, Pistachio and Scooter).

    Gee, on the business end of stats:
    
    * Marketing/Sales type for training services
    * W/ Digital for 3.5 years
    * Previous to DEC??  We-e-lll, my resume reads like job of the month club,
    	 since I've tried to stay w/ high tech and stay in Denver, two areas
    	 that frequently seem almost mutually exclusively.  
    	 Previous work includes construction, surveying, bartending,
    	 performance eng at a power plant, programmer, mkt mgr, and ski bum
    	(alas, only for four months!)
    
    
    Other stats:
    * married to a person who complements me and challenges me; a best
    	friend 
    * One child - an exceptionally adorable and talented 18 month old! 
    * One dog, a humongous 9 month old airedale
    * Appearance?  to paraphrase Ann McCaffrey, "I have brown eyes, and
    		a few freckles ...all else is subject to change."
    * Interests range a lot, though the "current" list depends on how much 
    	time I am willing to create and include
    		reading
    		jogging/hiking, etc
    		needlepoint
    		listening to people's histories
    		guitar/banjo
    		herbology
    		woodworking
    		environmental solutions
    		early religions
    
    
    =wn= is opening me up to a great number of possibilities! I am feeling
    more 'good' about myself as a person and as a woman every day, and
    learning SO much about the complex and many sides of issues

    I'm in Material Acquisitions in the Boston (BOO) Mfg Plant.
    I've been with DEC for 3.5 yrs.
    I'm married to a terrific man (4 yrs as of last week = :-)), 
    and currently have no human children.
    The "family" consists of 2 horses, 5 cats and 2 bunnies.
    Interests include horses & horsebackriding, reading, sports,
    swimming and the outdoors.

    My name is Debbi Jancaitis, often just shortened to "Debbi J" by my
    co-workers.
    
    Currently working in Boxborough MA but that's due to change in (I hope)
    a few weeks - if we can work out a release date between my current and
    my soon-to-be bosses, I'll be moving to Marlboro (MR01) in the near
    future - looking forward to the new job and new opportunities it
    brings.
    
    Single mom (by choice, not "accident" or divorce/breakup !) of a
    wonderful not-so-little boy - going on 7 years old and he's just a
    great kid, if I do say so myself.....live in Leominster, MA and have 
    been all my life (except brief period when the first apt I found was 
    in Fitchburg - a few months of Fitchburg Gas/Electric and I was back 
    in Leominster QUICK !!!) and now we're in the process of inheriting my 
    childhood home - great to be out of apts and have a house with a nice
    yard for the kid and the puppy to play in !!!
    
    Since I just joined in with this notesfile (added it a while ago after
    reading a reference in PARENTING, but had the wrong node !!), I'll be
    read-only for a while.  I tend, as I add these conferences, to like to
    read up first and then, as get to the more recent stuff, will start
    participating.

    I'm working in the Engineering Information Centre for 12 months as part
    of my four year BA course in Librarianship and Information Studies.

    I'm still Karen Godin and a writer, but now I'm writing for PCSG
    Marketing in Littleton (LTN as of yesterday).
    
    Still married to a DECcie and still have two yound adults who happen to
    be my children rounding out the family.  The dog who used to be with us
    died in April.

My name is Jane (I usually sign myself as CJA if at all).

I've been with Digital for 5 years now, and once upon a time started to read
this notes file - ran out of time (work) this was one of the confs that got 
abandoned - now I've started to read it again.

I work in the Solent Business Park site, near Southampton (for those
not in the know, it's virtually on the south coast of England, in the middle) 

I work in the SD&E group (old-ADG) development/technical consultancy etc.

I'm single, with animal dependents (2 cats, 2 rats, 6 mice, 1 canary) yes I 
know OTT, but I like the uncomplicated company...

I'll continue to be read-only for a while yet...lots of replies to get through.

Well, I've moved again...My new home away from home is CTS.

I'm going to be there this afternoon hanging my new larger-than-life Robert
Smith poster if there are any w-noters that are interested! I think my office
number is 111 or 117 on the first floor. In about 2 hours it will be the one 
tastefully decorated in Early-American Punk :-) :-) :-)

Everything else (job, sweet baboo, home)is still the same except we now have 
one additional furry child (which makes 3)of the feline variety named 
Rebel Rebel (after the David Bowie song cause we weren't sure if she was a boy
or a girl :-)

    customer site full time for most of the last year, but now as my

    Oh no, not another intro ...
    
    My name is Virginia Ferguson (no middle name, thank goodness -- my
    family's from the South).  My family and friends call me Ginny and
    lately I've started addressing myself that way (yeah, I've been having
    long conversations with myself the past few months).  I checked out V-2
    briefly last year but I had trouble adding V-3 to my notebook and so
    moved on to other files.  However, when I ended up sitting at the
    Womannotes table at Frederick's dinner I got curious, so here I am.  (I
    think I can still put some names to faces!)
    
    I'm a Publications Specialist in the New York office -- that's a
    catch-all job code for when no one is quite sure how to define your
    job, I think.  I do a little bit of everything pertaining to creating
    documents (mostly Sales proposals at this point) using DECwrite,
    DECchart, & DECpresent.  Next month I'll be starting my Sytem Manager
    training and at some point I'll probably take DECwindows programming --
    unless I decide to quit my job and become a painter full time.
    
    My personal intersts are eclectic and tend to change over time.  The
    only constants are reading (everything, but especially science fiction
    and historical novels), swimming, cooking, and art -- painting and
    drawing, and hanging out in museums (I was a fine arts major in
    college; I'm still not quite sure how I ended up at DEC).

I'm Roseanne Rogers and I'm a Support Specialist at the Atlanta Customer 
Support Center.  I support DECwindows, DECimage, GKS, and other graphics/
imaging packages.  I've been with DEC almost 3 years, before which I was
earning my BS in Computer Science at Tulane University in New Orleans.  

My interests include reading (a wide variety - classics, current fiction,
science fiction, fantasy, non-fiction), artwork (currently taking figure 
drawing and acrylic painting classes),  Digital's softball team, conservation
(I volunteer at a wild bird rehab center on some Saturdays), hiking, secular
humanism, and sleeping late.

I try not to follow conferences as active as this one because of the time
involved,  but I poked my nose in one day and came across Estelle's note
about her step son being so terribly injured.  I read all 200+ replies
that day and the some of the notes were so powerful, I just had to 
explore the conference some more.  I found a lot of intelligent and 
insightful notes.

So here I am.  Looking forward to noting here.

Hello!

I'm Tara Scanlon, and have been peeking in here on and off for a few years,
but only recently have started following the conference regularly.  I feel 
like I know so many folks in here without ever having met or corresponded 
with you!  It's both odd and terrific!

At DEC, I'm a technical writer in MRO, and I co-coordinate a documentation 
usability corse.  Somehow, I manage to have more stuff on my plate than
I have time, but...  It keeps me off the streets! :`)

Life outside Digital is pretty hectic these days.  I roller skate 
competitively, play Dungeons and Dragons (Hi Jody, Andy, D!, Amy, and Todd!),
and do aerobics 3-5 times a week to compensate for my sweet-tooth.  I also
enjoy ball-room dancing, cooking, sewing, reading, spending time outside,
canoeing, and being with family and friends.  

Dreams...  There are so many things I'd love to do in life...  Raise sheep 
in Ireland...  Spend an entire year alone in a cabin in the Adirondacks 
with books and nature as my only friends...  Learn how to design and build 
affordable but livable homes...  Travel...  Learn to sing on key...  Have
a child...  Become a gourmet chef...  Learn to fly...  Capture the beauty 
I see around me every day with watercolors or oils or film...  Drive a 
motorcycle...  Have my own bathroom so that if I want to decorate it with 
nudes, I can...  Go white-water rafting...  Learn to love myself...

And the beauty of life is that none of these things are out of reach.  For
that I am truely thankful!
