I have certainly changed some people's opinions of *me*!

I have also given information to people who, with that information, have
formed opinions that were different from the ones they held before they
had such information, if that counts as "changing someone's opinion."
(I have no evidence of this as I do not have permission of the people I
have spoken with to post our private e-mail conversations.)

I have carried conversations on in e-mail that were started by =wn=
conversations that have resulted in a change of opinion in myeslf or the
person I was talking to or both (again, I'm not free to discuss examples.)

And finally (this isn't your question, but it's relevent) *my* opinions
have been changed by information and arguments and individual insights
that others have presented in this conference.

>I have certainly changed some people's opinions of *me*!

Hahaha....D!, you beat me to it! ;-)

Seriously, tho. Melinda Regnell put a note in this conference that really
made me feel wonderful....she talked about pre-formed opinions she had of
me and how she had changed her mind later.

I've had my opinions changed on many subject many times thru this notesfile,
most times off-line. I've been helpful in enlightening a couple people in
SOAPBOX about homosexuality...and they changed their stance.

*I*, in no way, can change someone's mind, only they can do it. I can
only state my beliefs and hope that other's will evaluate them for themselves
and either accept them or discard them.

Have I made a difference? I hope.....many others in here and certainly
made a difference in my life.

Let me start with an echo of .1 and .2 (slightly buried); the first
question should probably be: have YOUR opinions changed from reading
=wn=? My answer: roughly YES. More precisely, I have been thinking
through and _evolving_ some of my opinions in a deeper and richer way,
    not necessarily _reversing_ them.

With respect to: changing other people's opinions; who can be sure? But
more importantly, the basenote seems to harbor the suggestion that
this is all wasteful rhetorical flimflam. I don't think it is at all
(or, mostly), but I would like to understand the underlieing accusation
(or perceived accusation) better before responding. Did you mean
    something different?

943.4I've changedTLE::RANDALLliving on another planetTue Jan 16 1990 13:2017
I have arrived at a deeper understanding of more issues and people
than I can count as a result of discussions in this and other
notes files. I couldn't separate the discussions and provide
evidence even if I wanted to, because the opinions I present
through notes are part of my total personality. A note in one
file deepens my appreciation of someone's point of view, so I see
the next note in this conference with a slightly different
    perspective.

Whether I have changed anyone else's opinions is immaterial to me.
I don't write in here to try to change other people's minds -- if
I wanted to do that, I'd go to seminary and become a preacher. I
write in here to share opinions, to understand other people
better, and to enrich my ability to perform my job well by
    becoming a better person.

    I doubt I've changed anyone's opinion.

But then, I don't come here to change opinions. I come here to "talk"
with women about issues that concern us.

Dawn, thanks for saying that. That was one of my first reactions
when I saw this topic - [well, is changing people's opinions really
the *point* of =wn=?] and then [wonder what the purpose of this
	topic is...].

Sure, I'll argue tooth-and-nail about my strong convictions, and
am psyched whenever I discover others understand the basis
	for my beliefs, but it's all really just a form of s h a r i n g.
