This is a topic that will accommodate calls for resources. We have a note
that LISTS resources, but this one will house REQUESTS for resources. As
always, if another notesfile forum is more appropriate for your request,
please post there FIRST, and await response. If you wish to respond to a
request here, PLEASE send mail to the author, DO NOT post it as a reply to
this topic.

I think this note can provide a very useful informational outlet for the
community, without taking up lots of time and disk space in the
notesfile....

Does anyone know of a good source for shoes that are not the ordinary,
run of the mill type - I am looking for something that will go with a
sort of old-fashioned looking ivory wedding dress for an outdoor wedding.
(Therefore - not dyed shoes as they could discolor in wet or damp grass
& also low, wide heels or no heels so that the heels don't punch through
the ground with every step). Anything in the Boston/North Shore area
or around Nashua/Lowell.

Thanks,

Leslie

For my outdoor wedding, which was held in a hot air balloon that was
part of a balloon festival held in a field, the shoes I wore were white
leather shoes that had a small bow in front. The heels of the shoes were 1/4".
I did alot of walking in the grass that day and I also needed comfortable shoes
for climbing in and out of the balloon basket. You mentioned that your dress is
old-fashioned. My dress was also a victorian (tea length) with lacey puffy
sleeves and lace and pearl trim everywhere. The shoes looked very nice
with that style of dress. BTW, my dress was white.
I got the shoes at Sage-Allen, located at the Leominister Mall.
(Leominister, Mass.)
Best of luck to you and I hope you have terrific weather.

I wonder if any women here, might remember the old mink tails that
many women wore, back in the fifties. Infact, a lot of them were
more than just the tails, and were the whole body, usually 3 or
4 of them sewn together. They were worn, just draped over the
shoulders. They were not actually a mink stole (sp?), which is
a lot larger, and does not have the entire body.

If anyone should have these old minks, and have no real interest
in keeping them, please send me mail, as I am looking for them.

I worked on a committee to make the community more aware of
eating disorders. One of the tasks that I did was to create a
directory that listed the various NH professionals who work with people
with eating disorders. Because of various commitments, I cannot update
    this directory.

If you are willing to work on this project, can you please send me

Committee (better known as Battered Women's Shelter) and Sojourner
House (a shelter in Boston for Families in Need). I have the band,
sound system & caller all donating their time. I need a hall. It has
been suggested that I try to get the Weston Town Hall or First Parish
Church (Scott Hall) in Framingham. For each of these two places I need
a sponsor. Would anyone be that is connected with these two
Towns/places be willing to sponsor this worthy cause? To be a sponsor
at the church you have to be there for the event I'm not sure that is
    true with Weston.

I feel a bit foolish about this, but here goes:

I met a woman from Romania the other day. She is new to the Cambridge
area and is having trouble finding permanent lodgings and a permanent
    job.

She's apparently quite shy about calling for jobs as she has quite
    a heavy accent.

She says she used to work for Priscilla gowns.

Anyway, if anyone knows of any seamstress related jobs, you might want
to give her a call. She's a very nice woman, in her 50s, and seems
    very sincere.

    Try the Public Library.

If it is an "All DEC" membership, DEC permits the use of after hour use
on conference rooms, but the last time I checked with the facillities
manager, they needed to be "All DEC Personell".

Some banks, as do other large businesses, often have "public function
rooms" which are generally made available to "public meetings".

Some such businesses are the public utilities, banks, churches.
However, many of them also have various "use" restrictions regarding
smoking, collection money, food, alchoholic beverages and certain
    philosophical constraints.

18.20Help on altering fur coats?DEMON::CROCITTOPhantomoftheOPERAtingSystemMon Nov 27 1989 18:0515
Hi all,

Does anyone out there know of anyone who alters fur coats? My mom just gave
me her 15-year old muskrat coat, and it's a bit tight at the shoulders. I'd
like to have someone put leather inserts in it to update it and also make it
roomier.

It's a little on the tatty side, but still good and warm. I wouldn't mind
putting a few $$ into it since I got it for nothing.

Any help or direction is appreciated!

Thanks,

Jane

    Hi,

Try Furs by Michael on Pleasant Street in Worcester, MA.
They have a first time fur shop and a second time furs in
the lower level. They make coats and will be rennovations

And I second Marge, Gale :-). My taxes are going to be _very_

Do agencies usually want to do your entire tax return or will they be

The IRS will be more than happy to answer any question you
have. The office here in CS has a Hotline number you can
call to ask them any questions you have about your taxes.

It might be wise to call them ASAP with your questions,
though. I would imagine the longer you wait, the harder it
will be to get your questions answered.

BTW.....my reparation payments from my sex-discrimination law
suit are taxed, but they are treated as "back wages." I
think you will want to be very specific about exactly what
	 you're wanting to know.

I would definitely call IRS to get your
answer......especially if you are planning on doing your own
	 taxes.

And from what I've heard you might do well to call a couple of times
with the same question (but a different answer-person) and see if you
    get the same answer.

My taxes will be done as soon as I get the W2 from work but that's only
because I don't itemize. If it ever gets that complicated, I'm going
    to hire a tax accountant.

18.36Women from Boston HistoryFOOZLE::WHITEThu Jan 25 1990 16:2719
I have been asked to serve on the Boston Women's Heritage Trail
Advisory Board. Our function will be to choose 12 women from
Boston history to be honored on a walking trail. A number of
women's organizations have been asked for nominations.

The women selected must have some location association in downtown
Boston, so that walkers can actually visit a site and learn about
the woman. I am about to attend my first meeting of the Advisory
Board. I did not grow up in Massachusetts, so I may be ignorant of
    local women of historical interest.

Whom would you want on the trail and why? I have also posted a
    request in Blacknotes.

Decisions will be made in March; the Trail will open in May. I'll
post more about this project later in another note.

Could anyone point me in the direction of

    1. A lawyer in the Worcester County area (northern preferred),
Massachusetts, who is __good__ at family law issues - divorce
        settlements specifically.

    2. A family mediation service in the same general area that can work
with both parties to negotiate a reasonable and fair solution.

My niece, 20 years of age, was raped at knifepoint near her home in
Puerto Rico. The nearest support group is on the other side of the
island, and her Spanish is not fluent. She's asked me for some
plain-talking books, "no big words". I'd appreciate pointers.

18.42Request for assistance in finding these studies...CSC32::CONLONLet the dreamers wake the nation...Wed Feb 07 1990 18:2914
Remember the studies that were reported a few years back
that reported that the lifestyles of women and children
were significantly lower after a divorce, while the
lifestyles of their husbands/fathers were significantly
    	raised?

The studies were announced on national news programs,
    	around 1985 or 1986.

Does anyone have the sources for those studies (so that
I can get some figures from them?)

Thanks very much in advance for the help!

My 16 year old daughter needs a 'tea' length gown for
this Saturday. I realize that this is *very* short notice!
The dress that she borrowed makes her look like a pink
marshmellow. We can't afford to buy anything right now, so
while welcome, information about stores is not going to be
any help for the immediate crisis.

Judi is 5'5" tall and usually wears a 8/9 or 10/11 depending
on the cut. Her measurements are 34-26-37. She has very
fair skin, bright blue eyes and very dark brown hair.
The only color she really can't wear is light pink. She
    looks best in bright colors.

Can anyone lend her a dress? Write me or call at 241-4582..
My husband and I work in Westminster and live in Royalston
so we are some what limited but will do our best to drive
    to pick up a dress.

    thanks

Is there any kind of support/advice group in the Marlboro/Wocester

husbands and/or boyfriends? I am looking specifically for a group

18.54Wedding/Reception resources neededRUSTIE::NALETue Feb 20 1990 16:0327
I'm getting married in May or June of '91 (yes, that's '91, not '90)
and am attempting to get organized early, so as not to panic at the
	last minute.

First of all, I'll give a quick description of what I know so far,
and then list what I need.

The wedding and reception are going to be held outdoors at a private
home in Gloucester, MA. We're going to have a justice of the peace,
try to do as much of the food as we can, and there will likely
be < 100 guests. Since I'm in Nashua, and Mark's in CT, neither of
us are familiar with what's available in and around Gloucester. In
addition, I'm going to have my gown made.

If you know any good resources for the following, I'd *REALLY*
	appreciate MAIL. Thanks in advance!!!

	o Bakery
	o Florist
o Tents, tables, chairs to rent
o China, silverware, glassware to rent.
	o Band (preferably) or DJ
	o Photographer
o GOOD seamstress (w/in 2 hrs of Nashua)
o Fabric store specializing in silk (w/in 2 hrs of Nashua)

Subj:	survey help

hi,
i'm trying to write up the proposal for my term project
for the female personality course i'm taking at harvard.
instead of reading through piles of research on female
personality what i'd really like to do is compile some
information on my own. and, i'd like some of you to help.

this course considers the uniquely female aspects of
development. each person in the class has written seven
autobiographical essays in order to evaluate how accurately
feminist and social science theories reflect women's lives.
however, since 99% of the class is women who are either
directly invloved in social services or are working on
getting their masters in psych, i think the sample is
highly biased. i'd like to compile some data from women
who are invloved in the natural sciences.

so, what i need to actually start this project is
about 40 volunteers who are either directly or indirectly
invloved in the natural sciences, biology, computer science,
physics, etc. i'll send each of the volunteers a survey
by USMail along with a s.a.s.e. it will be entirely
confidential, since i don't need your names. i expect
the survey would take about an hour or two to complete so it
wouldn't be time consumming. and, for anyone who volunteers,
i'll send a copy of the final paper along with joanna's
comments.

if you want any more info, or would like to volunteer,
send either email, USMail or give me a call. my prof is
really hoping that i can get this together since she's never
been able to get much data on women involved in the natural
sciences. i'd really appreciate the help compiling this data.

	 1) A commerical post office in the Marlboro area. I need to

	 2) Could someone tell me the process I will have to go thru

	 3) Recommendations for the following in the Marlboro area...
		a) gynecologist
		b) doctor, prefer a DO
		c) vet
		d) health club
		e) psychologist (prefer feminist male)

         4) Leads on any available roommate situations in the Marlboro

18.61symbol of justiceSYSENG::BITTLEgood girls make good wivesSat Apr 07 1990 04:3915

A while ago, in one of the topics on justice, someone mentioned
the symbol of justice as being a woman blindfolded holding
one of those two-bowl scales (do they have a name?)

I am looking for a drawing or picture (from a magazine article,
book, encyclopedia, etc) of this symbol. Line-art would be best
as it is going to be scanned, but a continuous-tone image would be
    	OK too.

I thought it appeared in a magazine column I read, but only
    	the scales are shown...
