What's the deal this year, has N.H and Mass. come to terms on the
boat usage deal?? The last I heard was that N.H. still has a usage
fee for out-of-staters but Mass was just going to let anyone run
on their waters as long as you didn't park your bact for any extended
    period of time.

If this is the case then I'am sure that you can get us guys to come
down. I can't imagine Mass. not trying to pick up extra cash in
    the area of out-of-state boaters.

1357.6The definitive word; Well almostATSE::URBANWed Mar 21 1990 12:3518
At the CG boating course I'm taking they had a rep from the Mass
Environmental cops give a talk on Mass rules. The subject of
reciprocity with New Hampshire came up (of course).

He was vauge and mumbly, but the gist of his position was that they
(Mass) are not going to discriminate against NH boats anymore. He did
not make this statement 'absolutley', but instead it was couched in
amoungst alot of muttering, NH bashing, and general vaugeness.

From what I understand, NH is considering, conforming to whatever the
federal boating registration program is that the rest of the US endorses.
But, with our politicos currently scurrying about like rats trying
squeeze money out of every source, I dont see them giving up the big
bucks they get out of freshwater use fees on boats. Maybe we wont have
to..we'll just wear the opposition out and they'll give up (like Mass?)

By the way John, how did you end up making out in that Winnisquam bass
    tourney last year??
1357.7I don't like it when their mumbly.SALEM::EASTERWed Mar 21 1990 14:307
Our boat came in 21st out of the 65 boat field. We could have done
better but I couldn't get my partner to catch any legal fish. Those
14 inch miminum limits can be a bear.

1357.8N.H. Boating in Mass.WJOUSM::BOURGAULTThu Mar 22 1990 11:4911
I called the New Hampshire Fish and Game about a month ago and asked
about boating regulations for using N.H. registered boats in Mass.
waters. They referred me to the Mass. dept of boating and recreational
vehicles. When I asked about using my boat with bow numbers in Mass.
waters I received the same respone as earlier stated (mumble, mumble,
yea it's ok and you don't need anything else from our state your
N.H. registration is valid. It appears that they are not happy about
it but their law is currently very specific that bow numbers are
accepted for use on Mass waters. What they left out was that the state
they are dealing with must be reciprocal. I was informed by N.H. that
a bill was in the state house to be reciprocal with other states.

Ed,
Manchaug is right on the north-east part of Douglas and the south-west
part of Sutton. It's approximately 360 acres with lots and lots of rocks for
structure. Usally the easist way to get to it is taking an exit off of 395,
although I forget which one. It's a pretty decent place to fish for Bass.
Unfortunately I won't be able to make the DEC tourny there this year. I'm
sure some of the other fisherpersons in this file will post more precise
directions, but at least you have an idea now.

Good luck at the Tourny if you go,

Sorry folks I have not read this in some time.

To get to manchuag from worcester area: Rt 395 to exit 4E that is
"Sutton Ave Sutton" about after you pass singletary rod + Gun club,
on you left then a little further is spans country store and A white
church, the second right after the church is called Manchuag Rd.
There is a lot of campground signs on the corner. You finally see the
lake after about 1mile. go all the way around the lake, you will no
longer see the lake. Once you pass the YMCA camp bear right at the
fork going down the hill. The ramp will be on your right after you
level out at the bottom of the hill. If you come to the dam and the
lake again you just went by it.

You can also get there from rt 146. Take the Central turnpike exit
(sutton ave) about 1 mile after the 4 corners (blue jay rest) Manchaug
road will be on your left.

If you know how to find lake singltary, just continue past the ramp on
singltary road all the way around sing. until the road comes to an end.
about 10 miles. Take a left then the first right is manchaug road.

Can you find it know? Call me at dtn: 297-7841 for more detailed list.

			********RULES******

These are the rules for the tourney. I have just taken them from
the original DEC Bassmaster Classic. They are basically the same
ones we have used for the last four years.

THE RULES: as far as we see them now.

First Rule: Keep all the other rules simple. This is for fun not
    profit.

Second Rule: Remember First Rule at all times.

Okay, now that I got my attempt at humor out of the way, lets list
    some of the basic rules.

We won't punish for dead fish, but all contestants must have some
form of live well. This can be a cooler which you change the water
in as needed, or anyother form of "resonable" container. The "intent"
here is to keep as many fish alive as possible, so we can "catch
and release." Dead fish can be taken home for dinner by those wishing
to. I suggest you all use some form of live-well enhancer..Catch
and Release is one brand name and only costs about the price of
a six-pack. Since it relaxes the fish, it also can turn a "short"
    into a keeper ;^)

This is not a "sponsered" event, by DEC or anyother agency. We are
    on our own.

It will be an 8 hr. tournement. Starting time 7:00 (AM) and check
in at 3:00 (PM). You can check in when ever you want to if you wish
to leave early. (if there is nobody there to check you in, you will
have to wait.....the checkers are going to be fishing too) Be there
by about 6:00 (AM) for drawing and launching.

Nets are allowed and you can use any bait on a rod EXCEPT live bait.
No hand lines and such. Rod and Reel only.

Starting position will be determined by draw and the last draw will be
the "offical" starter. The intent here is give the smaller boats enough
time to clear the area before the next one goes off. Any kind of boat
is allowed, and you are responsible for your own safety. We won't check
for life vests, etc.. Insurance and such is the fishermans'
responsiblity. Conoes go last and don't have to draw a number.

First boat on a position has the right of way. If the boat is moving
in a direction you can't jump in front of it, but may go in behind
it. Distance of control is an "estimated" 100 yds in front and 50
yds behind. The idea is to not crowd other boats, like we do all
the time when we fish regularly. Remember that there will be other
non-tourney fisherman out there, so watch who you yell at. If you
want to come in and talk to your friends in other boats, stand off
    and ask first. BE POLITE.....

That is about it. If any of you have any other ideas or comments
on these rules, please input them.

Donations will be discussed at the ramp.

On June 1st, I will be turning in my badge after 10+ long years of
    continous,and loyal(?) service.

So for any other tourney's in the future, I hope to be a non-decie
participant partner with my wife Lorene.

May all your livewells be full,
and may you be forever shouting, "GET THE NET!!!"

1357.106Curious about the resultsLEVERS::NPAREMon May 21 1990 17:0817
Just curious, but how did everybody make out saturday?
We only caught a good size pickeral and a couple pearch (sp).I tried
    gidzits,worms,spinners,rappalas,grubs,jig&pigs,ect to no avail,just
got nibbles but no fish. Not catching anything was not so bad,but
the Hurricane force wind just blew us around,I spent more time playing
with the trolling motor than fishing. We left around 1:45pm because
my partner had a banquet to go to and no fish to weight :-(

Was that 5lb12oz lunker the prize winner?

Thanks to the organizers and participants of the tourney and
let's try to pick a warmer less windy day for the next tourney. :-)

Hey Gitzit, Motley group? We resemble that remark. Well I was wondering
how The Back Deck Wizzer did. We didn't see him at the end, but we sure
saw him the first 45 min. Him and Ranger Ron only had one pole in
operation the whole time we saw them. I'm not sure if Gary was waiting
for the fish to jump in the boat or what but I have to thank Ron for
passing up that first fish and leaving it for me.

1357.108Cold and Windy....FSLENG::SCHOLZRon....and thanks for all the fishMon May 21 1990 18:0515
    You're welcome Rich........:^(

Our problem was the wind (like some others I guess). TBDWimp wasn't
dressed for the cold and started to shiver about 5 mintues after we
got out there. I have to admit it was cold. So, to keep him from
catching Pnemonia we pulled up stakes and left. That's why we weren't
there at the end. We saw Jeff and Lorain as we were leaving so I
thought that at least someone would know that we had left.

So, who won and congrats to them????? !!!!!

Hey Ray.....lets start working on that night tourney.......I can't
wait. Maybe it will warm up by then...........

1357.109Learn by making mistakes...NEVER Quit again!CRUMMY::LANGEMon May 21 1990 18:2819
    Congrats Les,and Partner...nice fish!!

I'll be the first to admit...I quit Saturday...absolutely ZERO in the
mental attitude category for me...I defeated myself. I dropped an
alright size smallie at the boat, and from that moment on,I was just
casting for the sake of something to do while I was fighting the
wind.... I just said to myself screw this....12:00...and not a single
    fish in the well.

Kudos to everyone that caught fish...You definetly worked hard for
    them.

Hopefully see all of you at the next tourney.

BTW ... I'll be up for any,and all N.H. tourneys coming up...seeing how
I'll be registering the boat this week while we fish Squam, and Winni.

And the Tournament Lunker of 5 Lbs. 12 ozs. Largemouth

Caught most of them on gitzits and grubs. Larry was a hell
of a net man on Saturday, but didnt get a hook in any legal
ones. The lunker was my personal best to date. I only

I just want to thank all of you for being there on saturday, yes I know the
wind blew and the s___ flew but I still think it was worth it. How many times
have you had the pleasure of seeing THE KEG catch a fish, futher more he took
forth place...Boy, we never going to hear the end of that. Thanks to Les for
the use of his scales, honest his lunker didn't have any lead in it...What a
nice fish.. 18 boats showed, 1 did not, which is not bad considering the day.

It was good seeing all of you, hope all of you have a good summer..Who's going
to run the night tourney, also lets have a fall tourney. What about having
one at the Merrimack river in Lawrence, Ma., sometime late September..Yooo
Sully, find out the tourney schedule for us....

Thanks,

Bruce

Once again I couldn't see 'em on the beds....maybe if
they used plaid quilts instead of those natural
    		colors...:-)

Ray....if you think that you will have equipment problems
in the future...let me know...you can borrow TED.

And....finally...lets get that night tourney going so
I don't have to hear and more "one that got away" stories
    		from the KIV.....:-)

Hey....you folks proved once again that your all champions.
Always a good time with you all!

The tournament actually took place May 19, 1990, not 1989. Boy Bruce, we're
almost halfway through 90 and you're still writing 89. Why am I "lucky"? It
was skill! Unless you mean my actual participation was lucky...

And Les' fish was 5-09 (at tourney scale) or 5-12 on Les' scale... NOT 9lbs!!

When I caught the Hawg it weighed 5 lb 12 ozs then at the weigh in it
weighed 5-9, Larry and I were talking about it on the way home, I have
checked the scales out before and they were right on, and then it hit me
When I weighed the fish at the end I did not put the plastic piece in
the basket with the fish, You know the thing to keep the fish from
flopping out. Anyways I weighed the plastic and low and behold it
weighes 3 oz. So The fish will go on (My) record as 5 lbs 12 0zs
    per the Normark Scale.

I let Rich catch all the fish this year (I got to sit
in back and pop tops) Last year Rich let me catch them
while he did the same.Yeah once in a while I had to get
up and do an outstanding net job for Rich but (yawn)
its all in a daze woik.

Yo B.D.Wizzer that was fishing not billiards.
               Way to go Les.
               and Gitzit well.....same to EWE!!!

               Thanks to the organizers.

Ya the wind was a lot of fun. Between that and broken equipment
I had a hard time keeping the boat where I wanted it. The first incident
was when the pole seat up front came out of the floor. I almost ended up
in the water. Old Keg decides he is going to operate the trolling
motor, I warn him don't use the pole seat its *^%$&^. Nope he knows
better. Well guess what happened. I hear a crash guess who is ROLLING
around the floor, Keg. Luckily he only snapped one rod in half. Then
to beat it all I break the momentary switch on the trolling motor.
Then I broke open a half dozen beers. One thing I can say about
letting the Keg net your fish, DON'T. Last year he beat a four pounder
of the hook for me, and this year he tried to do it to the only 3
fish I got to the boat.

I have to say we had a good time despite the wind.

It feels good finishing in front of the MASSmaster. Maybe this year
he'll be asking for my Social Security # !!.

It was a tough day I'll admit. Glad I picked up 'lucky' Lucia at
the last minute that 3lb 4oz'er sure made the difference.

I didn't get my first fish till noon. and the other 2 came between
    1:00 - 2:00. We caught the fish on 1) pig/jig 2) spinnerbait 3&4)
Grubs. Theres was no pattern, We caught the fish in 3 different corners
    of the lake.

The bites were small like kiver taps- but if you set the hook fast
enough there was a surprise at the end. We used heavy jigs and heavy
    lead-heads.

        We'll that's my 2nd, 2nd place finish in a row (didn't fish the
fall one). Look out Tucker! I'm gunning for Quinsig!

Congats to all and espaecially LES !!! Boy, I hope one of you get a
big fish some day!~! and I'll nickle and dime you for an ounce or two.
The fish was 5lb 12ounces MARK IT !!

    Hey Bassmaster!!,
I figured out the pattern pretty quick!! Larry and I just fished
your used water and caught fish. If we wanted one over 2 lbs. all you
have to do is ask the Bassmaster for a beer, pop the top and WHAM a
nice two pounder. Thanks DAVE !!!. 8>) BURP
Hey TBDW how can you catch fish with your hands in your pockets.
Are you thinking them in to the livewell ;>)
Seriously though, it was tough with the wind, and we did get two
of ours off beds, took over and hour each, but it was worth it.

The MIGHTY QUINN$$$$$$ IS Next. Lets set the date !! Looks like the
14 th of July would have no MASS BASS conflicts. I vote for JULY 14!!
Thats a Saturday or how about the FRIDAY THE 13TH !!! Come on Ray,
    times' a wastin'
